The Original Ghosts of Williamsburg

I and my 3 companions went on a Sunday night for the «Extreme» ghost tour. We have been on other tours in DC, SC, NC, and GA so this was not our first rodeo. It started promptly at 9:15p and out guide was a young man dressed smartly as a funeral director. He led us through the streets leading the way with a candel lantern. Beware… the streets are cobblestone peppered with horse poo and dimly lit. Wear sensible shoes!
We walked 1.5 miles in a little over 2 hours. At each stop, our guide told a story about the property. While the stories were based on a local history book, our guide had a poor sense of timing and little ability to build suspense. Storytelling is an art and he would benefit from classes.
A member of the group was entrusted with a K2 meter with no instruction on how it worked or how to use it. What a waste. Pictures are encouraged but some places are private residences so photography is forbidden. In our photos, there were dozens of orbs and one or 2 questionable catches.
This tour was very similiar to others we saw. You do NOT go inside any buildings. Prepare to walk far and if taking pictures, make sure to adjust for very low light. There is nothing EXTREME or scary.
I dont regret going but I wouldnt go again. There are better tours (Bacons Castle).

I’m writing this more for the fact it currently has a 1 star which is unjustified in my opinion.
Our B&B folks purchased the tickets as part of a package. The system is set up to call and make reservations. Unfortunately there is no live person, you leave info on a recording.
This was the regular ghost tour, not the extreme as mentioned in other review. We met in front of the W&M bookstore around dusk. There were probably around 20, or so in the group.
We first went on W&M campus and stories were told based on books by a local historian LB Taylor. The guide was excellent with the telling of the stories, she knew her script.
We moved into Colonial Williamsburg and hit a few houses. Keep in mind with this tour you do not in any homes unlike the official CW tour. Our guide was great about keeping us all together and attempted to keep us engage.
I found the stories interesting, the exercise was nice as well as the sight seeing at night which is a different perspective. Total tour time 1:45. I did not find any of it scary if that is what your going for everyone has a different level. I admit my tolerance is mid/​high. I would recommend this company.

I would not recommend this company one bit, I am very sorry. I highly suggest you try diffrent ghost tours in Williamsburg before you select this tour. The «extreme» tour is FAR from extreme, do not let them fool you with this overly exaggerated marketing label. I am being completely up front and honest with you all about this company, and give each experience a fair equal chance, I am not making any of this up. We were told to arrive at the church promptly at 9:00pm and the tour would leave exactly at 9:15. For the price, «package» and location we were expecting a premium quality experience from such a highly travel touristy area. It was FAR from average right from the beginning. Once we showed up, nobody from the company was on site until 9:05pm leaving us guests and customers very confused on where we were actually so post to be. Maybe a sign or glow stick marking the exact spot would have been nice, since there were other tours starting at the same exact location. It was a big gaggle of unorganized chaos. We waited around for over 10 long enduring minutes until they started to check names off the list and separate us into two groups of different guides. This part was very overwhelming, we were all corralled into a long line where I didn’t even feel like a person anymore, but only a number on a piece of paper. The woman in charge was very rude as she marked off our names in a assembly style method, and by this point it was 9:25, when we were already so post to start the actual tour at «promptly» 9:15pm as they mentioned upon buying your tickets. All together there were 32 people in my group, and only 1 piece of ghost hunting «equipment» which looked like a light up toy left over from the circus. The guide gave it to a little girl who had no clue what she was doing the whole entire time, this is extremely frustrating due to the large amount of money they make on the daily and the low quality of the «tour». $ 15 a ticket X 60 people total, easily in the two groups was nearly $ 1000 in one night. From here things got even worse as we began to walk through Old Colonial Williamsburg. We stopped at a first house where the guide went on a wild rant venturing off topic countless times, loosing the interest of the group already. She directed us all to take out our cell phones and take pictures of the house which we spent doing for about 15 minutes… She walked around one by one and showed us pictures off her tiny iPhone of «ghostly» fake looking captures her «friend» took, but couldn’t answer direct simple questions regarding when it was taken, etc. This happened the ENTIRE way through the tour. Maybe an iPad would work better?! As we continued to the next couple stops, we arrived at one location to find another separate tour company of about 15 people already conducting a guide. Extremely obnoxious at this point, for nothing seemed to be planned one bit. The tours were very conflicting as we could hear the other company next to us discussing and taking up all of the viewing space (which looked more fun). At this point several people were fed up and disappeared from our tour group. Our guide continued to ramble on about completely irrelevant topics for about 20 excruciating minutes, completely loosing everyones attention as more people left and surfed Facebook on their phones during the rest of the tour. For the price, hyped up «upgraded» «extreme» package labeling, and unprofessionalism this tour provided, I would highly advise that you to do more hard research before buying a ticket. I read the reviews on trip advisor before hand but I continued anyways, and I can confirm the negative reviews are 100% accurate. Good luck with this company. This tour put a extremely bad taste for Williamsburg in my mouth, and I can only imagine it did the same for REAL global travelers into the area. Luckily I live in Richmond, which is close but far, or I would have lost my mind and never came back to the state again. I am extremely sorry if this tour left a bad impression of historical Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.
