We make our own patented seed mixes which you can get mixed with or without vitamins. We sell bird food, bird supplies, bird toys, cages, wild bird seed, hand raised baby birds, and name brand products such as Zupreem, Roudybush, King’s Cages, A&E Cages, Prevue Hendryx Cages, Kaytee seed products, LaFeber seed products, Sunseed products, and many more! Out of the many brands available we also carry our very own patented species specific bird seed mixes. We also provide services for your birds such as a low cost grooming service, we board birds all throughout the year, we can do a DNA gender analysis where we send a blood sample to a lab to find out what gender your bird is, and we also do general health check ups where we take a look at the overall appearance of the bird, weigh it and tell you if the bird is in good health or not. If you need a recommendation for a local vet we can provide a name and number to a veterinarian for you.

History

Established in 1984.

Nancy Prester began breeding and selling birds in 1975. She originally bought seed to make her renowned Deluxe Seed Mix from Wall Seed Company which was owned by Orlando Wall. When Mr. Wall retired, Nancy and her husband Hal bought the seed store in 1984. In 1985 they raised their first large parrots which were Umbrella Cockatoos. In 1996 Nancy decided to change the business’ name to Birds of Paradise in order to relate to more customers. The business moved three times on Washington St. in downtown Wichita, Kansas before moving to south Woodlawn Blvd. in 2006. Over the past 28 years Nancy has hand raised hundreds of birds and sold thousands. In Nancy’s eyes, the best part of being a small business owner is the longterm relationships that you form with your customers. «I’ve watched their children grow up and have families of their own. I still see birds that I raised 25 years ago or more coming to the store for grooming. Some of our closest friends started as customers.»
