YMCA of Greater Whittier

Just started my 4 year old in tee ball here and it’s been amazing! Coach longoria and his allstar team of coaches and staff have been amazingly patient with the children in practices and games. It has been a great first sports experience for my baby girl. High five to the Y for having such a great coaching staff for their location! Director will silva is awesome as well! He Made it a point to help get my daughter and her cousin on the same team for the ease of our family carpooling for practices etc. very helpful and friendly! Look forward to keeping my daughter in this league in the future!

Love this place! Friendly staff, clean facility. They care for my son while I workout. I also do family swim in the pool and spend family time with my kids while working out. The best of both worlds. I can also come in the evening and not have to worry about running in the dark in my neighborhood or having to rush through my workout before the park closes at dusk. Love it here!

I just got my membership a little over a month ago and so far I am enjoying it at the Y. Whenever I go it’s never overwhelmingly busy and the equipment isn’t all old and worn out, it’s actually really clean and nice! The people there are really friendly and the women’s locker room is always clean when I go. I know gyms can be gross, but so far there has never been a time when I have walked into the women’s locker room or any other part of the Y and thought it was disgusting so that is definitely a good thing! The cost of a membership is a little more pricey than other gyms, but they are good at working a plan out with you if needed and to be honest if you look at the star ratings of LA Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness in the area that charge a little less per month they don’t have the best reviews. Also, what other gym supports Christian values and has Scripture that encourages posted around the building? Keep up the good work YMCA of Greater Whittier!

Honestly, I love this gym. It’s always empty, and if you go regularly you know everyone there because everyone seems to go around the same time. The trainers are the best, very friendly. And every workout is pleasant. The environment is amazing and all their equipment is updated every couple years.

The Uptown Whittier YMCA very comfortable place to work out has a nice pool and jacuzzi plus it’s a good place to put your kids in sports

It’s a YMCA… I really don’t think I have ever been in one that differs from others.
Though, I would not expect bad things if you ever come here.
it’s like a public gym experience… i think that is the best and most accurate way to explain it.

Came here for the programs they offer for my 5 year old. Nice facility toi bad people can’t get with the program to be clean or clean up after themselves. Other than that the pool is somewhat on the warm side but actually have a warmer pool and Jacuzzi on the side. The staff is courteous and helpful as well. Can’t wait until I start a regularly scheduled work out that I can handle to lose the unwanted flab.

I’ve been going to this Y for years. It can get crowded and parking is a little tough but it’s a great place. People are friendly. Lots of classes to choose from. They offer a lot of sports for kids and help low income family pay the memberships. Most of the people that work here are great. There are one or two that seem to not like their job but that can be found anywhere. :)

Madness! This location always gots kids running around near the from entrance due to one sport or another (i.e. basketball, karate, swimming). Once you pass the front area, most of the kids disappear, so don’t trip.
I come to this location maybe once or twice a week, I prefer the East Whittier location because the crowd is older and well, less, but they close at 9pm. I was here yesterday around 9pm and it was a packed house. Kids running around and a bunch of good looking folks (probably in 20s) working out. (When I was single you would never catch in a gym on a Friday night, but maybe it’s a pick up spot of some sort.) Anyways, I used the Racquetball court and most machines were available so I rotated around. The personal trainers know what they are doing and can put together a good routine for you, just hit them up. The cardio classes are also great, especially the yoga class, spin class, and the abs class. All great instructors, but show up early cause they get packed.
Negative star: My kids don’t care for this gym partly because the child care staff is not as attentive and well nurturing as the East Whittier spot, and it’s packed. Beware parents: the older kids childcare lets the kids go to the restroom by themselves, so tell them to call you if your kid needs to go. As a mom, little things like this make a huge difference.

there are only 2 couches in the waiting area and some people decide to lay on them while playing w their phone… NOT COOL! Other people want to sit down and wait! NOT STAND!!! they need more couches or a bigger waiting area w more couches!

It’s the Y… you know it’s going to be a local community type of place. You come here not because it as the greatest equipment, hot looking people, trendy classes or whatever. You come here because you know that they’re for the community and provide many services and activities for a fair price. I spend my $$$ here because I know it’s going back to the organization and not some big company.

Great place to start your kids in sports, and a great place for your kids growing up. My son started playing roller hockey at the Y! After years of moving on, and playing Ice Hockey. He ended up coming here for his work outs! Equipment’s are always up to date. Only issue here is it does get crowded at times, so if you want to avoid the crowd? Come in during the day.

I am an older woman, went thru 2 total knee replacement surgeries and did my all recovery workouts at the YMCA. The trainers are knowledgeable, very encouraging and know me by name. They make good suggestions to make my work out more effective. I have attended various classes, including Water Aerobics, Circuit Training, Abs Class and Pilates, moving up in class difficulty as I got stronger. Classes were not overly full. I go to the YMCA nearly every day. I feel it is a supportive community, not just the trainers, but also the members. People there are very friendly. I lost 70 lbs and my orthopedist says I am a role model for knee replacement recovery. I feel the YMCA community has played a vital role in my success. Some other reviewers complain about ventilation. There are fans up in the main exercise room and they keep the outside doors open. I have not noticed ventilation as a problem. I consider myself to be very lucky to have YMCA close by. I strongly recommend YMCA of Greater Whittier!

Dirty. Not everyone has the proper etiquette of wiping down machines. Annoying teenagers. Stuffy. Their classes are ALWAYS full.
I need a new affordable gym with better classes and more options.

They got new machines! They now have more ellipticals and better stairclimbers.

Been coming here to long but I like it cuz its so close and you can get in and out without having to wait for wieghts or machines. Definatley a place where you won’t be bothered by people trying to talk to you. You can put on your headphones and zone out. After all who wants to be at the gym longer then you have to.
