Radisson Hotel Whittier

Service is exceptional. Rooms are nice and their restaurant makes delicious food. Even has a clothing boutique on site. Definitely my new spot to stay at while working in southern CA.

Worst experience. No maid service for two days. Rude staff. Unhelpful manager. And to top it off when we woke up this morning there was a beer can and cigarette butts on our first floor patio. Not from us. Unnerving and scary. But they didn’t care. Poor service.

After reading all these horrible reviews, I almost wanted to cancel my reservation because I was so scared. Luckily, to my surprise, it was not nearly as bad. We got a room with a king bed. The bed was tidy and comfortable, the tv worked fine, the stereo/​iHome worked, and all the outlets worked. There were clean, fresh towels and plenty of toiletries. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was for two reasons. One: the window would not lock. It was open when I arrived (at 1 in the morning, so it was very cold). Luckily the heater was working, although it smelled like it hadn’t been used in a while. The last reason is that it just wasn’t worth the money. I’ve stayed at Best Westerns that were exactly the same in quality. Again, there was no huge problems I had. It was just overpriced for what it was.

Disappointing stay. Tried to enter room key didn’t work. Staff transferred us to different room but that had only 1 bed when we paid for 2. Then got transferred again to the final room. After an exhausting experience we laid down only to find out TV didn’t work and we didn’t have the sleep number bed as advertised. We asked to speak to hotel Mgmt. And gave out ph# and still haven’t heard back.

Big improvement over the past few years! Great value for the money and if you want to stay in a modern and spacious hotel room in Whittier, the Radisson has my recommendation.
Plus:
–Nice modern furniture with bonus points for iHome nightstand clock radio with lighting connection (iPhone ⁵⁄₆ compatible).
–In room safe with digital self-​setting combo or you can use your credit card to open/​close the safe.
–newly remodeled bathroom with upgraded toiletries (shampoo/​conditioner, etc).
–Either at the front desk or via the Radisson iConcierge app you can request just about anything you forgot (toothbrush, razor, comb, etc)
–nice large LCD with digital signal provided about 50-​channels from DirectTV.

I must add that Sylvia at the front desk was beyond lovely. They are all so personable here. Love that kind of friendly service!

During Whittier College homecoming weekend, The Radisson likes to throw a party for students and alumni that are 21+. I finally turned 21 this year and I was excited to go when the bouncer at the door told me my ID was fake. I’m from Arizona, and I have an Identification card from when I was younger (which never expires and it hasn’t been 12 years for me to update the photo on it) and I thought that would be enough identification. I was wrong because the bouncer said it wasn’t me, which I replied «Yeah, I was younger», so I gladly pulled out my other ID and he told me the birthdays don’t match on either one. It took quite a long time for him to realize the birthdays match, then he claimed that the signatures aren’t the same. Of course they aren’t the same, my writing has changed in the last 5 years. What it ultimately came down to was that the bouncer had no idea what an Arizona ID looks like, so it affected me.
I spoke to the manager on duty about how I could prevent this from happening again, which wasn’t very helpful because she mentioned getting a new ID. My only problem is, why would I get a new ID when I have two valid identification cards? While my sister and I were trying to speak to her, she kept trying to talk over us and said «you can keep talking, you’re just wasting both of our time.» She could have been treating us this way because she assumed we were under the influence, but I wasn’t since I couldn’t even buy a drink since my ID was «fake».
I hope over time the Radisson hires people who are able to tell the difference between IDs, and managers who can talk to customers without being rude.

The Radisson in Whittier is a mixed bag but ultimately I was very happy with my stay. I booked a 3 nights stay in a junior suit for our wedding. Our reception was a few blocks away from the hotel so score a few points for location. Check in was a breeze, however retrieving our luggage was a little bit of a bummer. The hotel provides bell carts but no bell person to take your bags for you. This is sort of a wash, I’m thankful for the cart but would definitely have taken advantage of bell service had it been available. Ordinarily I have no problems carrying my own bags but in this case, it being our wedding we had several additional items and it was very hot that weekend.
Our room was very spacious and close but not too close to the elevators. The room featured a living room with pullout couch, arm chair and coffee table and included a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator, score double points for coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. I love hotels that include these amenities. However, on the flip side the room also had a large blood like stain in carpet in the middle of the room, the screws that secure the security latch to the door frame were loose and falling out and the bathroom did not have any form of ventilation. I hope I don’t need to explain that last point in greater detail.
The hotel service was also a plus and a minus. When we got to our room, I immediately called down for more coffee, cream and sugars, it never came. The next morning when I called down again it arrived promptly followed by two phone calls from the front desk to confirm the items had been delivered. I have no issue with receiving two phone calls but I think it just highlights my point about the service being a little spotty. We decided, being that it was a special occasion to take advantage of the hotel room service. This is a big time plus for the hotel. Not only is the room service reasonably priced (compared with say, Vegas) the food is actually quite good. I believe our first night we ordered the pastrami sliders, buffalo wings and a turkey sandwich w/​avocado and two soft drinks. The bill came to $ 45 and change. In my opinion not bad at all, especially considering the portions were huge. Is it over priced? Marginally. And as I mentioned before the food was good. However, I would advise either charging it to the room or pay cash and make sure to have exact amounts (including tip, don’t be cheap). If you pay by credit card or cash and they need to give you change, they have to go all the way down stairs run your card/​get change and then come back to your room. Now I would suggest the hotel invest in portable card readers considering the 17 year old kid who delivers my pizzas has one and/​or have your servers carry $$ to make change but what do I know. Plus I want to get my food, pay and be done interacting with people. So not only is it inconvenient for the server but for me as well.
Overall our stay was pleasant and I would consider staying here again if the opportunity presented itself. Hopefully the hotel can iron out a few of the issues mentioned in this review and others.

Stayed here for a few nights while visiting Whittier. Judging from previous reviews, I was a bit worried that I’d be staying in an insect infected, rat trap. NOPE! Things are looking up for Radisson Whittier. I overheard some staff talking about recent renovations, and I think it shows. My room was clean, housekeeping was prompt, room service while pricey (21% automatic gratuity) was better than the average hotel food (go for the breakfast, the dinner is hit or miss).
Other common complaints to address:
Loud AC: Yep, the AC had moments of loudness, but nothing that’s going to wake you up or even bother you if you have the TV on. I mostly noticed it when I had friends over to visit or while trying to scroll through the TV guide.
Customer Service: I don’t know if the staff has recently been fired and replaced, but I had zero issues with customer service. Everyone was friendly and accommodating.
The room: My room was pretty comfortable, HOWEVER, if you are seriously into sleep number beds, you should know that the controls are a bit wonky. It takes a few minutes to figure them out, but they do work. I think these might be first generation sleep number beds or something.
The bathroom is a bit smaller than you’d expect for a suite that size, but that didn’t bother me. I’m more into showers than baths (it’s a shower/​bathtub combo), so I don’t need a big tub. The mirrors were great and a bit too honest. One of them was just like a microscope zooming in on every imperfection of your face… But enough of my personal struggles.
My only gripe with the room is that I called ahead of time and requested a fridge and microwave in my room. On the day of, I reminded the front desk about the request. The duration of my stay, I was never provided with either… I assumed it was a first come, first serve basis. However, I kinda thought I was «first come» with the whole «calling ahead» thing. I don’t know how many fridges/​microwaves they have, but there does seem to be a shortage.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and this actually started off as a 4 star review, but the whole «no fridge/​microwave» thing mattered more to me than I originally thought (I had some leftover pasta that I literally could not heat up and God I wanted that lasagna). So, if you’re gonna’ be there a few nights, it’s a 3/​5, but if you’re just passing through, it’s honestly fantastic. Take the one star reviews with a grain of salt!

This should be a ZERO star review. I along with my out of town guests stayed at this hotel for my wedding on ⁸⁄₂₉ — 8÷30÷2014. Customer service was disorganized and haphazard at best. Ants in our suit etc. But exactly a year later our bank account was charged once again for the stay. Very unhelpful receptionist says their computers crashed and that their accountant Rodrigo would be getting back to me… 4 days later haven’t heard from him. His voicemail is always full and the GM James can’t be bothered to call back and according to reception every time I call he is in a «meeting» and no one knows when he’s available. Sounds great right?
Stay ANYWHERE else… Or you and your guests may have a nasty surprise in your future.

Awful!!! I’ve never been this disappointed in a hotel before and I’ve stayed in some flea bags. Apparently it is «normal» for the ac unit to sound like a Harley revving for battle. It took 2 calls and 2 trips to the front desk to be told that 1– there is nothing that can be done and 2– there is nothing that can be done. I know, the obvious — change rooms. We were denied.
Very disappointed — I expected more from the name Radisson and will be blasting this all over social media.
Don’t be fooled by the website pictures. The room has carpet from the mid 70’s (1870s, that is). They put a cover on stuff to make you think it’s shiny new and lo and behold, it’s CRAP covered up.
Wine bar was nice. That is all I can say about our adventure here.
Stay away from this rat trap. The rooms are dirty and not worth the price.

Where do I start, booked room requested non smoking. Got a smoking room it smelled disgusting I had to send for a candle and febreze. Sheets felt crusty, carpet by sink was soaking wet. Forward to 3:30AM I wake up to turn off a/​c to my delight. I come a cross a cockroach about 3 inch long and 1 inch wide the nasties thing ever I left the room I rather sleep in my car than in this dirty room.

Pillowtop beds, room service, charging port in the room, excellent design, clean. Perfect location, walking location from all the local nightlife. This is my place to stay whenever I am in town.

This hotel gets one star because it actually looks quite decent.
It didn’t earn the rest of the stars because stuff didn’t really work and it was, by far, the WORST service I’ve ever experienced in a hotel.
My mom asked the front desk the quickest route to this church and their response was, «there’s a computer back there.» We also paid extra for the business room upgrade and the sleep number beds were not functional. Our TV doesn’t turn on. They also didn’t leave any water in our room.
We still have a few nights left here for our experience to turn around, but I am not optimistic. I would definitely not stay here again. And I definitely would discourage others to stay here too.

Attended a wedding held at this Radisson. My entire experience was great. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. My room was clean and in great condition. But the most impressive experience was the food at the wedding reception. Food from banquet halls tends to be bland and not bery good. But the food we were served was fantastic. The chicken was tender. The rice was very good. I was impressed.
It was my first time staying at this hotel. My experience was great!

Terrible service and extremely disappointed.
A block of rooms were reserved for my brother in laws wedding months in advance. Check in is at 300pm, which is standard for most hotels. We presented ourselves at 545pm for checkin. Room not ready. Finally a room is available. We take our stuff up and leave to the reception. We return and turn in for the night. When we go to shower in the morning we have no bath towels. I had to call three times to get bath towels brought to our room. I even offered to physically go and get the towels from housekeeping. Not staying here again.
Receptionist were nice. Need better planning. I should get paid to stay there.
One star for nice front office people.

Wasn’t happy with double beds, $ 13 coffee from room service, or Sophia’s restaurant giving us food poisoning, but otherwise a great stay.

Really really disappointed in this place. The hotel itself is really far from any freeway. It feels like it is situated in a dangerous and ghetto neighborhood.
We got a king bed with sleep number. Things that were really bad:
— sleep number was broken
— room smelled musky and moldy
— bathroom has no ventilation and smelled really bad when we got there
— doors don’t shut all the way so when a room nearby closes their door, your door will make noise as well
— really loud hallways and paper thin walls
— there’s a club downstairs (weird and random)
The good:
— they have HBO?
Anyway. Will not stay here again.

Decent hotel in the heart of uptown Whittier. Definitely hidden pretty well amongst the residential and small commercial facets of the area. It’s centrally located so going to any of the shops and is quick and easy.

Staff were nice and welcoming, but rooms are not well maintain, well at least bathroom was not.
It was pretty loud during the Friday night we stayed, there was an event going on with loud music all night. Not a big deal for me, but loudness in the morning is not my thing, house keepers have to lower it a little, and speaking about them I recommend putting up your do not disturb as soon as you get to room, because we had just got to our room and 20 minutes later lady didn’t even knock she just opened the room, saw me and apologized.
Plus they have the sleep number beds, and that thing is loud, you can hear other guests bed thing going on, pretty annoying.
