I come here at least once a month for the prepared food for lunch because it is so close to my work. Their menu varies a little from time to time, like today they did not have Carne Asada or the marinated shredded chicken, and they were also out of many drinks they usually carry. This wasn’t an issue because they always have carnitas and it’s the best I’ve tried around this area. Their homemade salsas and tortillas are really good. They do have pantry staples like beans, rice, chips, flour, sugar, condiments, etc, but they don’t have much of a selection because they seem to cater to the meat shoppers. It is a carniceria afterall. They do have some fresh produce, again… a small selection. They also make excellent Aguas frescas? I don’t speak Spanish obviously… and some of the employees do not speak English but they will usually call over another who does, they are all super friendly!

I admit I’ve only tried their«ranchero» steak meats but those that I’ve tried were excellent. The marinated meat is good too. Not too overwhelming and tasty when grilled. I love them when I do taco nights. The staff are good people too.

Suffice to say, I’ve been over the whole carne asada thing for awhile. Most places that have it prepared make it too salty, and I haven’t really had a hankering for it. To be nice wife though, I decided to buy some for a Friday night. Having just moved to this area, I did a quick Unilocal search and found El Toro Loco. People seemed to like it and I figured I’d give it a shot. It’s a clean little carniceria that also sells prepared food and has tables and chairs for people to eat. They even have a little market area where you can buy some basics. I bought 2 lbs. of carne asada and was off. When hubs gets home I tell him that it’s his lucky day because I bought meat to grill. Next thing you know, it turns into a Friday night feast at our house with friends and he goes back to buy more meat and some chicken. The overall consensus was that the meat was awesome! I loved that it wasn’t too salty. Heck, as I write this review I’m actually craving some. And it’s been a few years since I have craved some asada. I will definitely be going back and have already referred my friends.

Looked for carne asada on Unilocal and this place was in the area. 8 people rated it and it had 5 stars. I figured I would try it out. The place was clean and they had a huge selection of meats. The service was quick and friendly. Now the test. How did it taste? I will be the 9th to give it 5 stars! Definitely will be back!

Carnitas are sooooo amazing and so are the short ribs. The owner is super nice and employees are friendly and very inviting. She gives you samples if you want to try something. It’s a small place and when you walk in you are unsure of the atmosphere. But, trust me «don’t let the place fool ya» oh and the tacos are huge. Well worth it!!!

I stopped by the taco truck parked out front to buy dinner not ever having been inside the market itself. At the truck I was attended by Jorge who explained to me that the truck and carniceria were the same owners. Himself being the Manager, he offered me a tour of the carniceria and even gave me samples! Needless to say Jorge game me the vip treatment. I’ve come back to try the fresh menudo on weekends and I must say that it is the best I’ve had in the Whittier area! I’m a loyal customer now.

This is super authentic, super tasty food. The setup is a little awkward– part convenience store, part grocery, part restaurant. But the food was very good and the cashier was very accommodating– my friend doesn’t eat meat so she made him some eggs for his meal. Thanks!

Ok just moved to Whittier with my wife and we were looking for a good carniceria. I looked on Unilocal and saw this place had 5 stars over all the others. When I got here, I can tell that this place had been established for awhile, which when it comes to a place that sells raw and cooked food together you want to know that it’s safe to eat. Well, these people were more than friendly, and the only downside was is that they were pretty much out of everything; again which is a good thing considering they’re not serving you food that is two days old; so I got a couple of tacos for my wife and I and the guy making them was very hospitable! He made me this huge carnita taco for free! It had to have been one of thee bet tacos I have ever had! I’m definetely coming back tomorrow to buy some meat for tortas for the guys at work! This is going to be our local carniceria for as long as we live in Whittier!

Awesome place. My girlfriend and I first discovered it 2 weeks ago and have been back like 4 times! We first went in and they gave us a big ass piece of chicarones… as a sample!!! And it was the bomb! Fast forward 2 weeks later. We’ve been back a bunch of times and this time, we go in and he gives us a big chunk of carnitas and 2 fresh tortillas they just made.(They’re like crack dealers I tell ya) We originally came in for a pound of carnitas and ended up leaving with a pound of carnitas, a pound of chicarones, a dozen home made tortillas, guacomole, and salsa. What the hell? Just kidding. These guys are awesome and we found a new spot near home. Keep up the good work!

i think i’ve been deprived of good mexican food while living in OC. i’ve yet to find an awesome spot… and it’s been 3 years. i can’t help it, i’ve been spoiled with being around great mexican food for most of my life, since i lived in L.A. county for most of my life. every time i go home, i end up eating something terrible for me(aka amazing), and most of the time, it’s mexican food. i first tried el toro loco a couple weeks ago, and really enjoyed it. my boyfriend took me to the actual shop over 4th of July weekend, and holy cow this place is fantastic! Love their carne asada. when you walk in, they feed you. literally. they quickly fixed up carnitas tacos for us. and it wasn’t this tiny ass portion, it was literally enough for 3 good sized tacos. They threw in a container of salsa and green onions at no charge. seriously?! my favorite part of this carniceria is the staff. there was an older man working who was the sweetest guy ever! very helpful, and wouldn’t stop feeding us! if you don’t go for the carne asada, get the carnitas, which were really tender and SO good. probably the best carnitas i’ve ever had. their guacamole is made on the premises and so fresh and yummy. sure, the place is a little old, a little run-down, but it’s awesome. i will definitely go back!
