Smaller local hardware stores fill the void that larger stores such as lowes and home depot cannot. I was able to get a piece of hardware and personalized help when the bigger store failed me. I should have come here first.

What has happened to my favorite hardware store? I know they are going through some changes, but the only change I’ve seen has been from great to worse. It’s gotten to be that 50% of the time I go in, the shelf is empty, the hook is empty, not available, etc… The hardware department is still great, but what the heck is up with the rest of the store? It makes me sad…

I believe in supporting small businesses and gave Battels a chance. They are great with their customers both on the phone and in person. I took a screen door to fix and ordering a screen guard to keep my dog from destroying it again. Based on the size of my door which is a little longer than average It’ll take a few days. I will add to this review after I get my door next week. So far an A+ for customer service and prices.

Great job battels! Been looking for an adapter for a water inlet and none of the big stores carried it. Nor any of the specialty stores who dealt with pipes and plumbing hardware. You had one in Stock and made my day. Great customer service. A lot if items on sale.

Small hardware store off of Whittier Blvd. Great thing is this store tailors to the older Whittier homes. They have a good selection of older, vintage and hard to find hardware, nuts, bolts, fixtures, faucets and add-​a-​shower accessories. Bascially, they have stuff you wont find at Home Depot or Lowes. If they do not have the item in stock, they will special order it for you. Staff is extremely helpful in addressing your questions and needs.

I really appreciate this store. As a fiber artist I am frequently looking for the off beat item (metal) to include in my art pieces. No funny looks as I explain I need brass tubing for a neck piece. or copper wire to crochet. or a hinges for a rusting project… or I just want to look at washers. all sizes and shapes. Most items can be bought by the piece or in packages of multiples … Some stores offer only those inconvenient packages that cost a fortune and have only 1 of what you wanted.

Friendly helpful and knowledgeable staff with most of what you need from a hardware store. but if you need nuts, bolts, or valves, this is the place, 1⁄3 of their store is hardware. awesome when you break a bolt on something random or a leaky shower valve
like all of these places they arent open late or on sunday.

i have never gone in this location with a hardware need (for my, or a friends «fix’ems jobs» that you may do around the house) and not found it.

I had a slightly different experience than the previous poster. I dropped in this place a couple days ago, since I was in the area. I just needed a simple T55 torx bit socket. As soon as I walked in, the store clerks were asking me if I needed any help. I felt they were genuine about it and really wanted to help me find whatever it was I was looking for. I felt the people working at this store were just regular Americans providing good customer service at a fairly well stocked local hardware store.

If you’re in the eastern part of Whittier and need hardware, I suggest going out to James Hardware in La Habra. However, you could do much worse than Battels (including visiting that horrible horrible horrible place Home Depot).
Battels is a local hardware store that basically has everything you need. OK, maybe not everything you need, but their selection is pretty extensive for their size. The service can be a little bit shady; it varies from completely hands off to slightly mean.
But if you need a specific kind or size of screw, this is definitely the place to check out.
