When we first sat down to plan our wedding, choosing the right photographer was at the top of our list. Small details aside, my husband and I knew we wanted our friends and family there to celebrate with us, and we wanted to find the right person to document our day and tell our story. When we found Paul, we knew we had found that someone. Like a lot of other people have said, Paul is a storyteller who weaves his photos into narratives, and he is truly a photojournalist who chooses to document weddings, rather than a traditional wedding photographer.
As others have said, if you want a million formals, Paul is not your guy. If you want photos that capture the way your wedding day truly played out — with all its love and smiles (sometimes so big you have a double chin) and the joy and laughter of special moments (both planned and unplanned) — then he is your guy.
Beyond being so good at what he does, Paul was a blast to work with. We got to know him during our engagement session, which gave us an opportunity to get used to being photographed and definitely helped to open up my introverted husband :)

My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Paul when we got married last month. From the first phone call with him, we knew he was the right fit for us. When we met for our engagement photos, the experience and photos confirmed what we already knew.
We’ve both attended many weddings where photographers were in our faces, took hours to do formals, and really intruded on the day. We didn’t want thousands of awkward staged photos where everyone is miserable and uncomfortable. Instead, we really wanted photos that told a story about us. Paul is a storyteller; he just happens to use photos instead of words.
His work speaks for itself so I won’t go on about that (but seriously, go to his website, follow him on Instagram, and see for yourself how talented he is). When my sister saw the photos, she said «they’re more vivid than real life» and that’s the best way to describe them. We didn’t even know they were there half the time and the beautiful candid moments he captured are priceless to us.
If you have a long shot list compiled of hundreds of cheesy Pinterest boards, he’s not the guy for you. He’s an artist with a vision and is very directive when shooting so if you trust him and let him do what he does best, you won’t be disappointed. We couldn’t be more thrilled with our photos and to have worked with such a talented, genuine guy.
Oh! And a big shout out to his second shooter, Nikki Gowan, who was a total sweetheart and captured some beautiful shots as well. I would highly recommend working with this awesome team.

Paul is an incredibly talented artist and I cherish the photographs that he captured on my wedding day. He revealed the story through beautifully composed emotive images. He is genuine, kind, focused, hard-​working, and has a great sense of humor. It was a wonderful experience.

Paul was simply amazing. His work initially drew me in. He has such a gorgeous photojournalistic style with heavy contrast. I loved his entire portfolio, so it was an easy decision to meet. In person, he was laid back, honest, and just generally made us feel at ease. Our wedding day was more of the same; we felt comfortable and it never felt intrusive (which mattered so much to us). He was even incredibly understanding of a physical insecurity of mine. I am not a gal that likes having her photo taken, but he gave his all to make me comfortable. A year later and we have no regrets, Paul was a wonderful vendor to work with.
Our photos are phenomenal. We still haven’t printed any beyond photo albums or tiny prints (see above lateness in general, eep), but I’d keep plenty of wall space open, Unilocalers. ;D

I asked Paul to take some photos of me, my wife and my pug. We decided to shoot outdoors at a dog park he knew of. Due to the weather, we had to reschedule a couple of times and Paul was always very friendly, communicative and accommodating. The second time we rescheduled was due to winter storm Jonas. However, the day after the storm, Paul emailed me with a proposition that we shoot in the beautiful aftermath of the snow. We went on a pleasant hike through the snowy woods, talking as we walked and stopping to take some pictures along the way. Paul had such a calm and friendly presence that I felt like I was walking through the woods with a friend, not posing for a photo shoot. My experience was better than I could have ever expected and the photos he took were amazing. Paul really got to know us as individuals and incorporated his understanding of our relationships into his work. If you are looking for sincere and beautiful photographs with a fun and friendly experience, I highly recommend Paul.

I loved working with Paul and you will too! Not only will Paul document the whole shebang with an eye for capturing the best side of every person, setting and detail, but he’ll become a great friend in the process. He just gets it — and you need to trust in that.
Paul has incredible technical ability and blends into the background. You won’t even notice him, but he has a way of finding and catching the moments that define your relationship and your wedding day.
He’s also an anomaly in the world of wedding photography because he overdelivers at every possible moment. You aren’t just another booking in his calendar — Paul lavishes individual attention and kindness at every turn. Where most people overpromise but underwhelm, Paul goes above and beyond in every possible way.
And that brings me back to the most memorable aspect of working with Paul: the element of trust. Leave your shot lists at home and let him do what he does best. You’ll be rewarded! Take advantage of his second shooter if you’re worried about getting lots and lots of details, because Paul is going to be laser focused on capturing beautifully and meticulously composed portraits you’ll cherish for a lifetime, chocolate fountain be damned.

As all my reviews start with a «Queer-​O-​Meter», as does this one. From 1 – 10? Paul is a 50! He’s as good as it gets.
I’m an obsesser. I check and cross check and recheck. Finding a photographer was on my «honey do» list and I think it’s one of the most important parts of a wedding. You can’t recreate those moments and I wanted ours to be timeless and classic. His style was exactly what we were looking for.
Things to know: Paul is not someone who you can order around and is on «your clock», he meets you both, if you «click», and each of you are in it to win it, then you’re golden. When we met, I knew he loved what he did and he is emotionally involved with life, love and his work. It shows and it’s why I adore him. If you can’t let control go and you have to give direction every step of the way? Move on. He is not your guy. But if you get let go and let him do what he does best, then what you get is a phenomenally intense guy who will give you phenomenally wonderful pictures that you’ll stare at constantly.
Day of the wedding he was amazing, you can tell he gets all charged up and excited for his role in your life… if he isn’t posing you for a few wonderfully lit photos, then you don’t even know he’s around clicking away and capturing all those awesome candid moments you forget.
Go to his website, it’s a wonderful sampling of his work. Ask for references, email people, do your homework and in the end he won’t disappoint. He’s an amazing guy, who’ve I’ve come to call a friend!

Paul’s work is absolutely breathtaking! We could not be happier with all of our photos from our wedding and are just blown away by the utter beauty of them all! His perspective and eye for his subjects is just incredible. His passion for his work shows through in every photograph and I know we will cherish these timeless images for years to come.

This is the perspective of the father of a recent bride who is thrilled that she engaged Paul to capture and transmit not just the visuals, but the joy, emotions, and connections of her wedding day. A marriage is much more than a wedding, and what Paul’s images convey are much than moments of a special occasion. It’s recent enough that my memories of this day are still vivid. It is hard to choose just one, but if I could choose one word describe Paul and his work, it would incredible! Paul is a true artist and photography is absolutely his calling in life. He photographed our engagement session and our wedding, and my husband and I could not have been happier with the outcome of both! He is incredibly easy to work with and he has a special eye for capturing those little details. Our wedding was held in a barn and had a very rustic, DIY feeling; Paul definitely brought that out in our photos! Friends and family who were unable to attend our wedding have looked at our photos and said they felt like they were actually there due to how well Paul narrated our day in the photos. He makes it fun but organized, and everyone knows how stressful the wedding day is but Paul keeps everything very relaxed and flowing. Paul is super accommodating and will pay attention to the types of photos you want, while adding his own original twist to it. My husband and I are so fortunate to have had him for our engagement and wedding photos. His photos are undoubtedly original for each and every wedding he does. His photographs are a work of art and something 10 – 20 years down the road, we will look at and still be in awe! I give Paul the highest recommendation as a wedding photographer — you will be sooo soooo happy!!!

My husband and I could not be happier that we chose Paul as our wedding photographer! Of all of the wedding decisions, this one was the biggest and had the most lasting results since these are the photos that would ultimately represent the biggest day of our lives. Since we had an estate wedding, we did most of the details ourselves. The nice thing about working with Paul is that he takes control of the situation. It was such a relief to have all of our photography very much under control, from start to finish. In addition, my husband REALLY does not like his picture to be taken. However, Paul made the process effortless for both of us. My husband and I got married a few weeks ago in May and we could not have asked for a better photographer for our wedding. On a side note Paul is such a doll. Having met for coffee I knew immediately he was the right choice. We knew we would love his work from looking at his website but to like him equally as a person and click with him was really important to us. He could not have been nicer and you feel how passionate he is about his work.
On the day of the wedding he immediately made us both relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. Throughout the day he gave the perfect amount of direction to get beautiful pictures of Chris and I as well as capturing photographs of us just enjoying ourselves with the ones we love having moments on film that we will treasure forever. We wanted a photojournalistic approach and that is exactly what we got. We keep looking over the pictures and how unbelievable they are. They blew us, our family and friends away. We cannot say enough about him and are lucky to have met such a talent. We hope to keep in touch with Paul– he is wonderful.

We knew that we would get beautiful wedding photos from Paul, but we didn’t expect to be so blown away! Every shot feels timeless and organic. Our friends and family keep raving about every photo. Even my new husband, who normally hates pictures of himself, is just thrilled. I’m going to reiterate the suggestion from other reviewers that you trust Paul’s process and ideas. He is a true talent and just a fantastic person to get to know and work with to boot!

I don’t even know where to begin. Paul is one of the most incredible people and best photographers I’ve ever met. We weren’t exactly thrilled at the whole process of finding a photographer, being overcharged, or sold something we didn’t want — like countless scripted photos in an album or cheesy portfolio. We also didn’t want to have to purchase each photo individually. Paul set us at ease instantly, with a down to earth approach, talking plainly about what he hoped to do — capture the day as it unfolded, and provide us with all the full resolution shots for our own use later. And that’s exactly what he did.
Taking engagement photos with him was more like taking a walk with a great friend that had a camera. In a short period of time strolling through a park and chatting about travels and movies, he captured more natural and good looking photos of my wife and I than we’ve ever had taken over the course of our lives combined.
On the wedding day, he showed up on time and prepared for the day. He calmly and quietly captured every detail without many even knowing he was doing it. The composition, lighting, and final product have us reliving our wedding day with every glance back at one of his photos.
I absolutely loved that he didn’t insist on lining people up and snapping away at the over-​scripted wedding portfolio. Instead he captured the day with candid shots, each person’s interactions, and each moment like a journalist would.
He is up front and honest saying what will work and what won’t. There’s a certain amount of flexibility, but what we had with Paul from the beginning was absolute trust. Because that’s what he deserves.
His work is absolutely stunning and his calm, quiet, humorous, and supportive personality will put you instantly at ease. We could not be happier with our photos or with Paul. I would highly recommend working with him.

For me, initially, finding a photographer started out as one of the most stressful parts of wedding planning… I encountered some outrageous quotes, cheesy portfolios, and overly restrictive policies around rights/​access to high quality photos. I was pretty discouraged, until we found Paul! Oh my god, am I glad we found Paul! When our wedding day came around, our photos were one of the things I was totally, utterly, completely *not* worried about — I knew we were in good hands. This is party because we’d been so happy with our engagement photos — this is something we wouldn’t have gotten on our own, but it was included in Paul’s package, and it was SUCH a good idea. It allowed us to spend time with him, get to know each other and get comfortable with each other, and allowed us to get to know his style a bit better.
The other reason we were so happy with Paul is that our styles and approaches jived so well. We didn’t want to spend hours taking slight variations on formal portraits, we wanted to just enjoy our day and have that captured, and Paul made that happen. Honestly, he kept us on track– he checked in when needed but was never demanding, and was both extremely professional and really fun to work with. I should also note that he was very responsive throughout the whole process — many people who work with weddings seem to be (for good reason) very busy, and in our experience, many of them seem to have trouble keeping up with emails, phone calls, deadlines, etc. Not Paul. He was always responsive, available, and transparent. Again — it was just so nice to have at least one aspect of the whole wedding process that I felt totally confident and comfortable with.
Even with all that said, I was *still* blown away by how the photos turned out. I am so happy. I can’t wait to get prints! And my mom loved him. What more could you want? If you’re thinking of booking him, better hurry, I’m sure he’s getting booked up!

Paul is not a wedding photographer. He is a photo journalist who chooses to document weddings. The way his narrative unfolds through photographs is breathtaking.
From the beginning, Paul was adamant that we build a relationship with him. He explained that he wanted to be like a friend hanging out on our wedding day, not some stranger sticking a camera in our faces. It totally worked. Over the course of a year, we met for engagement photos, talked about our visions for the day via phone and email, and even met up for dinner a month before the wedding. Building this relationship was a large part of why we look so comfortable in our photos.
In a word, the photos are: stunning. We honestly couldn’t be any happier with them. You don’t need me to wax endlessly about them– go to his website and blog, check them out! You’ll see :)
Now, please be aware, there is a catch: just because you are paying Paul does NOT mean he works for you. Failing to understand this point is the only way you could end up frustrated.
Go to Paul’s website. Look at his portfolio, read his blog. His work has a definite style: he does some formal bridal party photos, but the majority of his shots are these beautiful candids that wordlessly capture the emotions and experiences of the day. He is a professional who is serious about maintaining the integrity and consistency of his work. If you want a bunch of Pinterest– style posed, cheesy photos (the bridal party holding up mustaches! Photos of us in empty picture frames!) this is NOT the photographer for you!!! There’s nothing wrong with those ideas– there’s a reason they’re so popular. But it’s not Paul’s style, and you shouldn’t expect him to move into an area that he’s uncomfortable with.
Just be frank and honest during your initial meeting with him to make sure you’re both on the same page. If you’re not… you’re not. Don’t force it.
Last, but not least: trust him. Paul has been to way more weddings than you and he knows what works. I thought I wanted bridal party formals after the ceremony, but Paul insisted we do them before. Andddd after the ceremony it was getting dark, the receiving line took forever, the train of my dress was muddy, my shoes were covered in mud, and the bridesmaids had wandered off somewhere to warm up. Basically, he was 100% right to recommend doing the formals before the ceremony and I’m super glad I trusted his judgement.
In a totally non-​traditional wedding vendor move, Paul’s prices are transparent and reasonable. He posts his rates on his site (just under $ 2,000) and doesn’t try to BS you by calling it «investments.» I hate it when vendors do that. Importantly, you and your friends and family have full photo rights. You can download the high-​res, no watermark files yourself or order prints through his website.
Paul is amazing. He is honest, sincere, and an incredibly gifted photo journalist. Our wedding photos look like something out of a dream, and we couldn’t be any more thrilled with Paul’s work.

Paul «gets» it which is the most one can ask for in a photographer. He has a very distinct natural style and this is a trait that permeates both his work and personality. We are both from different countries and it was lovely to do our first ever photo shoot (for our engagement) with someone who effortlessly understood us and the energy of our relationship.
We would recommend him to anyone looking for an easy-​to-​work-​with yet highly professional photographer. Paul responded to our emails and phone calls in time and was very honest about his own taste and aesthetic preferences which was refreshing since most photographers don’t have such a clear sense of direction. This cripsness of thought is was visible in the final photographs Paul delivered. We were extremely happy with the results and whoever saw the pictures raved about them. They have a beautiful vintage yet modern look to them and the colors are warm and complimentary.

When I first started to look for a photographer for our wedding I found Paul’s work on Craiglist. I felt like I needed to keep looking at my options, but I always came back to Paul’s website and his work. I felt so drawn to his photographs, his style, and the way he wrote about his approach and his work. I should have just gone with my first instinct and booked him, and I was so relieved that he still had our date available when I contacted him.
What can I say about Paul? He is an artist, he is extremely professional, he works HARD… so many people commented both on how personable Paul was but also on how hard he worked. He seemed to be EVERYWHERE at once, while never seeming intrusive. I don’t know how to explain his work other than his photos are full of emotion, they’re beautiful, artistic… I could go on and on.
Paul’s photos make you feel things. He captured our wedding in a way that we feel we can truly relive the day. I can remember exactly how I felt in certain pictures. And as a bonus, he took pictures of THINGS are our venue that we can frame, that looks like high end art… so its not like we have to have pictures of our wedding formals all over the house… we can have a piece of art, Paul’s photo, on our wall and know it is from our wedding day without it being a wedding photo. If its even possible I love our photos more and more each time I look at them, and I find more and more nuance within the photos where I can’t believe what he captured.
This dude is the best. He’s got soul, a good sense of humor, he’s fun to have around, he’s respectful… and I would say he truly captures the essence of the people and places he photographs.

How can it be that Paul has not been reviewed here? I’m surprised but really honored to be the first one.
Where to even begin? Well, last year I began to plan a wedding and the first thing I did was look for a photographer. To me the pictures are what you will always have. My own parents trusted a drunk relative to get their pictures and, as a result, no pictures. 53 years of marriage and no damn pictures to look back over. So, needless to say, this was big for me.
To my shock I fould two camps of photographers — those who were really good and charged $ 3,000+, and those who were awful and charged $ 2,000+. My heart sank. There is a difference between good photography and bad. YES, you can say «that is a good shot» or «that isn’t a good shot» — it is not always a matter of opinion. On top of the fee for the services all the photographers charged for each print. I find this crazy as they are no longer in the dark room developing film. I was not going to pay for every picture I wanted; build that into your pricing. After I pay $ 4,500 for one day of work I am not buying the images of myself. And it IS ONE DAY OF WORK. I’ve heard the arguments from photographers as they try to justify their prices and they don’t change my mind at all.
So, anyway, I go to the last place on earth one might expect to find a professional gem — Craigslist. Guess what? I believe I found the single greatest wedding photographer in the Boston area. Hand’s down. Paul Robert’s CL posting really spoke to me and when I went to his website I got chills as he was exactly what I was looking for — beyond talented, reasonably priced (verging on too inexpensive and he should raise his rates), you retain the right to copy any image he takes, and he is one of the most professional people I have ever worked with. He seemed too-​good-​to-​be-​true. I was waiting for the «issue» to be made obvious but he really is as amazing as he seems. At the end of the wedding EVERYONE asked who he was and where I found him because he made such a positive impression. My husband, who is Mr. Cranky Pants said, «I have hope for the future when I meet people like Paul.»
Oh, and the pictures he took? For the rest of my life my husband and I will cherish them. Paul captured some images of our dogs and our nieces that stop time. He captured their essence, perfectly.
And I’m sure Paul sat through the class in photography school where they said, «On your website make sure you use the word „Investment“ when you discuss your pricing so that you can justify the astronomical amout of money you are about to charge», but he doesn’t do that. His just says «pricing». Bam, simple, down-​to-​earth.
If you need a photographer for your wedding DO NOT pass this guy up just because he doesn’t have a ton of reviews on Unilocal or any of the bridal sites (which, incidentally, make me want to jump in front of a train). If you want beautifully artistic shots that capture the moment in time and you aren’t into formulaic «bridesmaids pose like groomsmen and groomsmen pose like bridesmaids» crap you see all over Pinterest, you have to contact Paul — he is a total find.
A word to the wise for future brides… Don’t completely eschew the «traditions» of wedding photography. I didn’t ask for specific shots and I should have. When I got my photos back I instantly wanted more — my mom and I, my dad and I walking down the aisle, my nieces in their dresses. Paul did such an amazing job that I wanted pictures of everything. So, make a list of every shot you absolutely have to have at the end of the day. When you see what you get back from Paul you will be amazed.
