History
Established in 1981.
L’Auberge Provençale was opened in 1981, by Chef Alain and Celeste Borel. It has been in continuous operation since that time. The inn first opened as a restaurant; in 1983 rooms were added. We now have 11 rooms for overnight accommodations at our main site L’Auberge Provençale. We opened a sister property, the Villa La Campagnette in 1998 as a bed and breakfast property with 3 suites, situated approximately 3 miles from our main site.
From the beginning L’Auberge Provençale has been striving to be a dining destination as well as a destination for overnight travelers in the tradition of a true Auberge from the South of France.

Business Owner
After we purchased the property in 1980, it was our desire to open the restaurant first and then to add rooms. We opened the restaurant in 1981. A lot of the original décor we had purchased while we were in Key West and some from Alain’s father, Emile. Emile at the time was living in Spain and was importing French and European furniture, decorations, tiles, large olive and water jars, wall decorations etc. Knowing our desire to furnish the property with antiques and fashions from the South of France, (Alain’s origin) he kept his eye out. Of course, when Alain and I would travel to see family in Avignon, we were on the hunt as well. We also searched local antique stores for chests, armoires, tables etc. A couple of the beds I drew on a piece of paper and had a man from West Virginia build them out of old barn wood. You can see these beds in room #6 and room #11. He also built me several armoires and end tables. He was quite a craftsman!
