We made a spur of the moment reservation on Sat night, and ordered the omakase. Incredible fresh fish with sublime and subtle combinations. Scallop with truffle was amazing. It’s a small place. Very attentive service.

I arrive right here on my own lunch time smashes occasionally. Your meals are alright. When I am really craving ramen I’m still down to come, although i’ve had better ramen. Many of the locations within the meals courtroom are money only but fortunately it comes with an Atm machine nearby(run after) along with a BOA correct within. If you’re feeling adventurous, this is a fun place to go, the food selection in the grocery store is interesting and rare so.

Really a pleasant surprise. Just to address some of the bad comments below… Yes you need to make a reservation. Kind of makes sense to me, probably not a lot of walk in traffic so make sure they have the appropriate amount of fresh ingredients. I found the owners very friendly, when I made a reservation they pointed out the options available(but yes English is not their first language) Anyway, this isn’t your standard Weschester Sushi restaurant. We did the $ 100 Omakase option. We had around 6 courses(including desert), all were diverse and really well presented. Don’t come here if you want California rolls, but if you want the chef to make the decisions for you… go for it. Only critism, I though the drinks list was a little overpirced, or at least they didn’t have many large Sake bottles for under $ 70

Absolutely delicious. Went for our 20th anniversary and had a great meal. Not fancy, but lots of fun for adventurous foodies. The Chilean sea bass and sushi were stand outs.

These people are assholes! I just walked in to this restaurant, which was empty except for one party of three, and I was turned away because I didn’t have a reservation! The sushi chef told me he «only has two hands», whatever that was supposed to mean…“But you have no customers, there’s no one here”, I said. «So sorry» is all the response I got. FUCKTHISPLACE.

Yes, I have eaten here. Its probably one of the most expensive places I’ve eaten. Very fresh, I really think you can not get any fresher. For such an upscale place though, the store front is not in line with the rest of it. The inside décor was nice but overall average and definitely not memorable for me. Honestly, I don’t even recall how it looked. Would I come here again, yes, when I’m making a lot more moolah.

Wow — what a wonderful surprise. I’m a sushi fanatic. The Omakase here was simply terrific. I’ve been driving to NYC Sasabune from CT — this was half the distance and equally great(actually the appetizers here are a perfect 10 — can’t get that at sasabune). I will absolutely be back and will bring my closest sushi friends with me. It would be a mistake to order the sushi only omakase; the sushi is good, don’t get me wrong, but what makes this place 5 stars are the appetizers. BTW, we did the $ 100 Omakase. Reasonably priced considering all that you get. DELICIOUS! Note: I have NO idea how people can rate this less than 5 stars. The ambiance is perfect and the service I thought was outstanding. I see some comments about the chef — he was as pleasant as can be(helped us pick a good sake and shared little facts about each piece). BTW, I was curious why this place was so amazing. The chef was at Nobu for many, many years. Now I understand why the appetizers are so amazing.

NOTEVENCLOSE. I was not impressed at all. Average to poor quality fish, poor knife skills, and definitely a huge lack of wow. Charge me $ 85 for a tasting menu, plus $ 10 – 18 per drink, you need to deliver. #fail

The word in Japanese for«rude» is shi-tsu-re-i. And that is exactly what the Sushi Chef here is… RUDE. Take it from someone who has lived in Japan, speaks the language and has dined at some of the worst to the finest sushi places from the United States to Tokyo. I’ll give it to him. I arrived 30 minutes past our reservation. And there was no one in the place. But when I asked about the sushi bar — in Japanese — he scolded me(after asking if I understood Japanese) in Japanese! I don’t think that I was ever yelled at in my life by a Japanese sushi chef. There is absolutely no reason to go to this place. The sushi was of very poor quality. Even my friend wondered if they had sharpened their knives after 20 years given the cut of the fish. Often, a sign of a good sushi place is the amount of fish to rice ratio. Here, the fish barely even covered the wad of sushi he placed on the plate. And we only had 6 pieces? For $ 85/person? I could have gotten better Kai-Ten Sushi in Japan at lunch for 1⁄5th of the price… Kai-Ten sushi is sushi served on a conveyor belt around a bar. The color of the plates determine the price of the sushi! And they are very nice to you as they are counting the 10 – 15 plates of sushi you managed to scarf down. I cannot believe for the life of me that there is even one person on this site who can honestly rave about this place. Even the regulars didn’t seem to be treated that well. If you believe that this place serves good sushi, then maybe you need to get out of the neighborhood more. Try Bambou in Glenville, CT. The sushi chef there is Japanese and is very, very sweet, while the owners(Chinese) run the ship to perfection!!! It’s not cheap, but at least you know what you’re getting. Still in shock…

The best Sushi restaurant in Westchester County! The only thing is you can’t walk in. You’d have to make a reservation prior. This place is tiny — seats 12 at the most but for some reason it’s usually very quiet. I’d come more often if I could just walk in. Really really good sushi…

Sublime omakase experience from a real talented chef. It is a pleasure to have him working in Westchester so close to where I live. This is our special occasion place where we always celebrate big events. The Miso fish is amazing and you are always surprised by every dish. And the sushi course at the end is always an eye-closing experience. Expensive but worth it.

Amazing. You need to be polite, well mannered dressed appropriately. You need to just submit to this sushi chef and let him feed you his amazing food only get the omakase do not order more food later respect the omakase. It is so good you might find yourself down at one of those other sushi places grabbing a drink and a cheap roll or two just so you can talk about how amazing your meal just was especially if you like to eat a lot. It is not a ton of food it is well done amazing pieces of magic basically chew everything like you are lost in time pause in between bites enjoy everything about everything that is served to you it is all so well done. They were very gracious and kind to us but I also made sure we all knew to be polite and show how happy each bite is making you because the chef is slightly watching you to make sure he is doing everything right and to make sure you are doing everything right basically the art of eating good sushi is to fully respect every aspect of it go watch this movie maybe before you go here jiro dreams of sushi. It is a husband and wife team so ladies maybe keep the cleavage at bay to be polite. They truly want you to have a good time but in that very reserved and appreciative Japanese way if you understand what I am trying to get at. He owns the is a very successful sushi chef and does not even have to be doing this especially for people who just do not get the whole Japanese sushi experience. I also think the choices he makes will be good on any palette unless say your allergic to scallop which is one dish very thinly sliced live scallop served on crushed ice, it is so incredibly light and creamy. nothing is too crazy ever bite is so flavorful. The wife was very nice I think we were late like 10 minutes as well and I was worried but we called on the way to tell them traffic due to a accident. Again you are paying for the whole entire experience do not go here because your hungry go for the exceptionally well done food and good sake, tea. I would consider it more of a private dining club experience as well like you need to submit in some ways aka reservation it costs a lot of money but dining clubs have due’s so you could consider that. They only serve a few people at a time so they can fully pay attention to you and your food I bet they will not do over 6 person party because I couldn’t imagine there be enough time to prepare everything to maximum freshness for more than 6 or even 6 seems kinda crazy after you go you might understand better he doesn’t want any food sitting around at all it is meant to be made and served for each person right then and their. You might want to decide if you really want to go as well to be honest If your unwilling in any aspect of this then maybe do not go and do not bring someone who doesn’t know these things because they might embarrass you and insult the chef etc, you should inform them. I think that is why the wife asks if you have been before on the phone so she can explain to you a little. In the end we were very open to the experience and the vibe between us customer and chef was very good which made me happy. Also I am pretty sure the wife helps work the sushi takeout in the supermarket behind it with a different sushi chef and it is really good sushi and very cheap and reasonable it is open odd hours though and has been closed but to reopen soon it would close at 5 so either lunch or you can get platters then bring them home to eat at dinner time on the weekends they have cookie crunch cream puffs that are so amazing. $ 1.50 a pop. I also had a amazing $ 9 Chirashi one weekend.

gorgeous sushi, probably the best in White Plains. Adiós, «Asian Fusion» bistros and the like — I have my heart(and wallet) set on Nanase from this day on. Rivals some of the great sushi places in the city(Blue Ribbon, Yasuda, etc) Quite spectacular!

For a true fine dining Japanese experience this is the place to goto in westchester. This isn’t Japanese sushi it’s a true art from. The restaurant is small and the chef puts an extraordinary attention to detail. He plans each course with precision and times each dish accordingly. You cannot just walk in you must reserve at least a day in advance. Its not a place you want to goto if you’re looking to be stuffed on sushi, this place is all about fine touch and delicacy.

I am a sushi connoisseur period, so naturally, I was really excited to find such a highly reviewed Japanese restaurant in White Plains. My first tip(as other reviews have already mentioned) is that reservations are required. I called the day of, so they only had a 630pm left, which I willingly accepted. I was offered a la carte or omakase dinner in which I case I went with the omakase – best decision of the night! The omakase was flawlessly executed. A blend of bold, but balanced flavors of salty, sweet and savory. All the dishes were exquisite, but I was particularly fond of the truffle and fresh sea scallops. Not to mention, the sushi was very fresh and literally melted in my mouth. Homemade soy sauce and wasabi – speaks for itself. Ended with a refreshing pear sorbet that was absolutely divine! Service was good and friendly. My one small suggestion would be that the chef be more interactive with his guests, but I completely understand if he wants the sushi and entrees to speak on his behalf. Sorry they don’t serve rolls… please don’t insult the chef by asking.

It seems some people have been having different opinions on Nanase. But I can tell you from my point it was an amazing experience and the food was stellar. Getting a reservation was Simple. Called on a Thursday for a Friday evening dinner for 2. Ordered a couple beers and ordered our Sushi.(Omakase requires week in advance heads up) I can say it was some of the best sushi i ever ate. It was so good we had to order more so we went with some al a carte pieces. Everything was great. Really have nothing bad to say about the place. Kind of weird that it was only us 2 and another couple with all that space but hey, can’t complain. Would definitely come back, and i gotta try the Omakase next time!

Ate here and had the omakase. For the price it was very underwhelming. The sushi was all fresh but the individual portions were exceptionally small. Nothing stood out to us. I just can’t see spending close to $ 300 for a meal for two that doesn’t totally blow my mind. I know this is Westchester, but after having eaten at places similarly themed and priced in NYC and San Francisco, this was a definite let down. Skip it, get a hotel in the city and eat some sushi down there for the same price.

This isn’t a meal — It’s an event. It’s a culinary journey through flavors that intertwine perfectly resulting in a dining experience you won’t likely to forget. Sushi master Yoshimichi Takeda took us on this journey last night. We had the $ 100 omakase(chef’s course) which included four tastings /Chilean Sea Bass w/Miso /Sushi /Fresh Pear Sorbet w/ginger dessert. Our tastings included: 1-Mushroon and pepper salad — 2-Scallops with Black Truffle — 3-«Sashimi Fuke» 4-Japanese«Sweet Potato» /Shitake Mushroom /Japanese Grape /Radish w/Miso /Eel w/Japanese Pear. You play by Mr. Takeda’s rules here. As mentioned in other reviews — no reservation /no dinner(with seating available a couple was turned away last night). Don’t even consider asking for«takeout» or «a doggie bag». You’d probably be barred from this wonderful place. The restaurant itself is «Mom and Pop». No sign out front — first time visitors may be challenged finding the place. There are three private tables and small«sushi bar» seating and that’s it. Mr, Takeda does this for love of his art. Back to the dinner– I can’t even begin to explain the various favors going on with the above mentioned selections. Just understand your sense of taste may never be the same. The entire meal was flavored to perfection. Looking forward toward our next journey — wherever Mr. Takeda decides to take us.

Basing this review off of a one time visit. Will have to come back since everybody raves about their omakase. As everyone has stated, reservations are a must. Did NOT know that you had to let the chef know that you wanted an omakase for dinner. Tried to order the omakase and was turned down. I apparently did not specify when I placed my reservation that I wanted to have the omakase. I always try to sit at the bar at every well established sushi restaurant, but was turned down even though there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant. Fish was extremely fresh and top notch. Rice was almost perfectly prepared, which is something very hard to do correctly. +2 Stars. Disappointed at his application of wasabi. The chef definitely needs to pay more attention when he applies wasabi to each piece; especially since he uses fresh grated wasabi. It is just way too overpowering. The gf could not handle it and had to scrap the wasabi off the sides of each piece. I could see the wasabi coming out of the sides from under each piece of fish and had to scrap some off my pieces as well. There was just no care put into it at all. –1 star for excessive use of wasabi. Restaurant was tiny but had an extremely authentic feel. I felt like I was transported to a tiny sushi bar hole-in-the-wall somewhere in Tokyo or Kyoto. Had a really great aura to it. Gf thought it was a cute place. +1 star for décor. Chef Yoshimichi Takeda also apparently doesn’t like having more business. He should be more careful before he starts complaining about patrons in Japanese. I ordered a second round of sushi after getting the«Sushi Nanase» set. The moment his wife gave him my order, I could see him frown as he spoke in Japanese saying, «Come on, stop it already.» If you don’t want to make any more sushi, then close your restaurant down. I also want it to be known that upon my arrival, there was only 1 other couple at the restaurant. I originally wanted to place my reservation for dinner at 7:00pm but was told that I had to be pushed back to 9:30pm. I thought ok, fine. They’re a pretty well known establishment and probably have a ton of people who want to have dinner here on a Saturday night. Fair enough. But if you are not busy at all and know that you have a customer that wanted to have dinner earlier, you should probably call them and let them know they can come earlier. –1 star for poor service. The waiter, who appeared to be his wife and assistant chef, was extremely polite and nice. +1 star for being more pleasant than your husband. I can definitely acknowledge the chef’s skill at making sushi, so I am willing to come back and order the omakase and take the correct steps towards dining here. I really want to give this restaurant another shot because they were recently placed on the Top 25 Restaurants list in the US on Zagat, but Zagat’s reviews seem to be going downhill.
