Established by dance legend Steffi Nossen in 1937, the Steffi Nossen School of Dance is Westchester’s première dance education destination. Rated Westchester Magazine’s 2011 «Best Kids Dance Classes,» the faculty transmit the joy and discipline of dance with warmth and enthusiasm to dancers of all ages and abilities. Located in White Plains, NY and Chappaqua, NY, our dance program provides an educationally sound, sequential curriculum and performance opportunities that foster technical and artistic development. We believe that dance is a unique form of education – developing the body, mind, spirit and character. With roots in modern dance, the school offers a full range of dance techniques including jazz, ballet, tap and hip hop. All classes are designed to challenge students to strive for personal excellence in a supportive, non-​competitive environment.

History

Established in 1937.

Founded as a modern dance school in 1937 by dance legend Steffi Nossen, the Steffi Nossen School of Dance (SNSD) offers the highest quality, developmentally appropriate dance instruction and performance opportunities for all ages and abilities. From pre-​schoolers through pre-​professionals, students have the opportunity to learn a range of dance forms including modern, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, yoga and composition, workshops and short courses in world dance forms. The diverse and cross-​cultural menu of offerings reflects our philosophy that dance is universal and a unique form of education that develops the body, mind, spirit and character. Our engaging conservatory style classes challenge each student to strive for personal excellence in a supportive, inclusive, non-​competitive environment. Our educationally sound, sequential curriculum fosters technical growth and exploration through dance.

Meet the Manager

Kathleen F.

Manager

Formerly a principal dancer and Company Ballet Mistress with the Frankfurt Ballet, Kathleen Fitzgerald was also a soloist with Netherlands Dance Theater I and Assistant Director of Netherlands Dance Theater II. She toured internationally with both companies and created and performed works by many distinguished choreographers including Jiri Kylian, William Forsythe, Hans Van Manen, Nacho Duato, Matts Ek, Bruce Marks, Jennifer Muller, Louis Falco, Christopher Bruce, and others. Ms. Fitzgerald has taught for major European dance companies and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the North Carolina School of the Arts. A Steffi Nossen faculty member since 2000, she has been the School Director since 2004. An active member of the Westchester artistic community, she is also the Production Manager for the Copland House concerts at Merestead.
