Phil’s Service

I would like to give this company zero stars but then I would not be able to write a review. Without going into a long story, this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They screwed up in every single area. I cannot say enough bad things about this company. DTE uses them when you have a warranty program with them. I would advise telling DTE if you have a problem that you do not want PSI to be called. Bad, bad, bad.

I purchased a pre-​owned set of frontloaders that arrived doa, and these were the guys recommended by the seller, who was paying for the repairs. The tech quickly found and fixed my dryer issue. Issue with the washer was dealt with because the tech was attentive.
A part did need to be ordered, and did take a couple of weeks, which I suppose is not unusual. I was treated courteously and never did they fail to return a call or respond to a question.

This business is not very good at all. Turnover from initial contact about the appliance to a person coming with the correct part has been 22 days. Emily was our contact at the business. She has a very snarky disposition over the phone which made their inability to fix the problem in any reasonable amount of time all the more frustrating. The day of the repair was informed that the repair person should arrive between 8 and 1. Hours later she informed me it will realistically be sometime after 1. Service repair person also filled me in on the trials of his life which was also pretty unsettling. Not a very professional rapport from top to bottom.

Avoid this company at all costs, unless you like the pain and torment of making wasteful decisions. Giving it one star is very generous. I wish there were minus stars for dishonesty. I signed up with DTE for appliance service repair. They were sooo nice and benevolent it thoroughly impressed me. But when i called for service on my central ac during an intolerable heat spell I got Phil’s services. Guy came out and seemed very competent. How would I know? Said there was a leak and needed major repairs and offered to sell me 4 lbs of freon to fill it and that it might get me through the summer and that DTE only authorized 2 lbs. Didn’t want to spend the money and so I called back to have the 2 lbs put in and was told they’re not allowed to fill an ac unit with freon that has a known leak. Why the change? I called back and was told it was against EPA regulations. I called several other ac repairs and they never heard of that and offered to seal the leak and fill it pretty cheap i might add. I also called the EPA directly and was told there is NO such regulation prohibiting a filling a leaky residential ac unit. I tried to cancel the service plan and DTE refused stating that I already had service. Is that what they call service???

If you want someone to show up late and then completely misdiagnose your appliance, then not know how to repair it, this is the place.

Avoid this company at all costs especially if you are enrolled in the DTE Home Protection Plus plan where they send out a company to repair your appliances at no charge.
Our dryer stopped heating up and therefore was not drying our clothes properly. As this is one of the appliances covered under DTE’s Home Protection Plus plan we have I contacted them and they sent out Phil’s Services. They came out on August 25^th and said some parts needed to be ordered to complete the repair and they should be in in around 3 to 7 days and that someone would call me to schedule an appointment to have them installed.
Weeks go by and no one from Phil’s had called me so I take it upon myself to call and see what the hold up is. I am told I need to speak with their Parts Department, but no one was available and they’d call me back shortly. The following day someone finally calls me back and says the parts are on their way and should be in within 3 days. I said «Great, let’s schedule an appointment now for you to come out and install them.» and the guy tells me he can’t do that until the parts actually come in. Two more weeks have gone by and no one from Phil’s has called me back.
I don’t need this aggravation, but I do need to get my dryer fixed so I can stop wasting money at the laundromat. I contacted DTE and they are sending out someone from another company to take care of it. I understand companies that do this type of work aren’t getting paid directly from the customer, but they are still getting paid by DTE and therefore should follow through on all work and promises or call if something comes up.

UPDATE: DTE sent out Great Lakes Appliances and the dryer was fixed in roughly 15 minutes. The guy said it didn’t even look like the tech from Phil’s even opened up the dryer to see what was wrong and just took an educated guess at the problem. Reason being is that of the two parts that were needing to be replaced per Phil’s, only one was actually bad which were the coils. If he had in fact opened it up he would have seen that the flame sensor was working properly.
He said that both the flame sensor and coils that were originally diagnosed as the problem are very common parts any HVAC tech should have on hand in their truck and the issue should have been fixed that day. If they don’t have them in their truck then their shop most certainly has them. The fact I had to wait a month and never got a call back from Phil’s is truly unacceptable.
What is even more unacceptable is that when I called Phil’s to tell them not to worry about coming back out, that the issue was fixed by another company, they seemed like they could give two shits and never once apologized for the inconvenience. It was a 30 second conversation at best. What a shame.

UPDATE PART II: Apparently there are two other negative reviews for this company that Unilocal for some odd reason has filtered out. I am not too sure why as both are pretty recent. Within the past few months actually. Here they are for your convenience.
One Star — 7÷21÷2011
Awful service. I don’t know whether they overbook or can’t plan properly but they schedule you for 11am-​6pm and end up being 4 – 6 hours later than that (I’m not kidding… they finally showed up at 11:30pm)! Then they have to come back to install the part they ordered and do it to me again! After all of this all they say is I’m sorry!!! It’s results that count and clearly they have no regard for the convenience of the customer. Don’t recommend.
One Star — 4÷29÷2011
Phil’s took in my dishwasher on August 1, 2009 and they failed to communicate repairs required for 1.5 years. I was replacing a working dishwasher with this one so didn’t need to have it and they told me parts were difficult to acquire so I let it ride. I’d call every couple of months and they said they needed to work on it. Finally they told me it was irrepairable after a year and a half and kept the $ 25 diagnostic charge. I would not do business with them again.
