Established in 2005.

Valstone Engineering was started by Val Courtney after working for highly respected structural engineering firms in the Nashville, TN area. Val Courtney received a background in the steel detailing industry while attending college and saw an opportunity to provide structural engineering services to steel fabricators with the fabricator and detailer’s interest in mind. In 2005, Valstone Engineering was started and is still a thriving business and is always looking to add new business relationships to the existing business relationships.

Val Courtney worked as a steel detailer while attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1999. His first job was with Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Canon as a Junior Engineer in the summer of 1999. At the end of 2000, Val changed companies and started working for Kessinger and Associates as a Junior Engineer in the Springfield, TN area. Looking to work for a highly respected Structural Engineering firm, Val went to go work for Structural Design Group located in Nashville, TN in December of 2001. It was at Structural Design Group where Val learned the vast majority of his structural engineering knowledge due to the vast diversity of projects that he was exposed to. In 2005, Val saw the opportunity to start a business which provides structural engineering services to steel fabricators with concentration on structural steel connection design, steel stair design and ornamental structures design.
