JR Cigar – Whippany

If you’re into Cigars you can’t do without visiting
JR in Whippany, the store is humungous with more variety than you could ever ask for.
If you’re a novice ask for help as nobody will even direct a word at you even if you’re just standing there by the register… if you buy some Cigars unless you ask for a bag they won’t even offer you one…
That’s the only negative; personnel in this place need to learn some customer service skills, other than that you could get lost in the store for hours just contemplating all the Cigars while possibly smoking one of them…

Its my first time at JR the cigar selection is enormous. Huge humidors on the ceilings really cool. Five star. I will be going back

If I didn’t live so far away I would be in in this place everyday. Awesome food and beer selection; besides you can smoke a cigar everywhere. Best cigar lounge I have ever been to!!! Do yourself a favor and check this place out if your a cigar smoker.

I really liked this place! You walk in to a huge room with leather sofas and chairs and several larger tvs. To your left is another room with the same. To your right are a few things: 1) the very large humidor 2) the bar 3) a side room where you can sit and eat dinner and 4) along side the humidor they sell wine, beer and spirits that you can have with your dinner.
The food was so so. We had a cheese and fruit plate to start and that was very good. They gave us several cheeses and fruit and the portion was healthy. Then we got salads and the fish and chips (potato chips NOT fries)…they were so so. They did give us several cigars with out meal so that was cool. I thought the cigars would be so so; however, to my surprise they were very good. Nice touch.
We were surprised that they closed at 10, but maybe that was because it was a Wednesday.
Overall this was a very good experience. It’s not easy to find a place to eat drink and smoke these days so I’ll definitely go back. Next time I’ll Über it.

I travel frequently to NJ and always make sure to stop by JR to unwind. Huge selection of cigars, good food, a well-​stocked bar, and a comfortable lounge with big leather chairs and large screen TVs. Can’t get any better than that.
But, what makes JR extra special is the people who work there. The wait staff in the lounge and restaurant are attentive and make you feel welcome. The bar tenders know their beers on tap and work hard to keep customers happy. The sales staff In the humidor are always happy to answer questions and provide good product info and advice. Tom, the manager, really cares about running a quality operation and making customers want to come back again and again.
Great job everyone! I look forward to returning again soon.

A cigar lover’s dream! The place is huge offering not only the largest cigar shop I have ever encountered but 3 separate lounges. One is a huge room with numerous seating areas (with extremely comfortable leather chairs) and two smaller areas (also with leather seating) one with a nice fireplace. In addition there is a small bar and a separate restaurant. I ordered the cheese and fruit plate for the amazing price of $ 10.95 which included a free JR banded Churchill sized cigar which was surprisingly good. Contrary to other reviews I found the service to be excellent with a relaxed atmosphere– I never felt rushed or harassed. I spent over 6 hours in the place reading, eating and enjoying numerous cigars — all for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone wanting a place to sit and relax while enjoying a cigar indoors without receiving dirty looks. While there is a constant cigar haze I did not find it offensive especially considering there were probably 50 to 60 cigars continuously being smoked! I will definitely make this place a must stop any time I am in the area.

One of the best cigar lounges I’ve ever visited! The main entrance takes you into their newly renovated cigar lounge… MASSIVE! The main room is filled with leather couches and tables (pictures to come). If you have a cigar in the lounge, they offer full waitress service (excellent service!).
Walk further into the building and you’ll enter their humidor. They have by far the largest variety of cigars in New Jersey. The walls are lined with boxes of many different brands. JR also has a full bar, wine room, and café. If you order lunch at the bar, they’ll give you a free cigar.
I can’t speak highly enough of this place. It blows away boutique lounge out of the water. From their newly renovated lounge to their excellent customer service, JR’s does everything right.

I really enjoyed my visit to JRs last weekend. The staff was pleasant. The food was good. I loved the giant humidor. I met family there. It was a great atmosphere to spend time with them.

I have had nothing but excellent experiences at this place! I get along great with the staff and have had wonderful conversations with friends or complete strangers (at first). I have brought my friends upon my recommendation and they have enjoyed their time and genuine experience. Since it is a place that is so friendly, I keep going there and I am greeted with smiles and hellos from the wait staff. I am very pleased and I love leaving them more than 30% tip because I know how demanding the job is. From the shop to the «best seat in the house» next to the shop, I enjoy this and recommend it to all for a great hang! Keep going JR in Whippany. Great job.

Very disappointed with the experience here. Myself and two of my buddies came here to enjoy NFL playoff football over cigars, drinks and some apps. We sat ourselves in the only available section open. Ash trays at our area were filled with prior cigars, wrappers and ashes. Waitresses were very slow in addressing the cleanup. We bought our cigars in the shop prior to sitting down. The whole place also has different closing times. The cigar store closes at one time, the bar area another time and the lounge another. Need a schedule to figure out when things r open and closed. Stupid system in place. Worst part of the night was after about 5 minutes after the game had concluded, all of the TVs were turned off and we were told to finish up and leave. We were rushed out and treated like 2^nd class citizens. I will never go out of my way to come back here again. Décor was nice thus the 2 star rating, but quality of service was terrible. I’ll continue to buy my cigars online and not through J & R. Skip this place.

Have been here twice and had a great experience both times. The prices for cigars are reasonable same as Leaf or Cigar International both are in PA and provide similar lounges. I enjoyed the atmosphere and enjoyed my time.

ever since the reconstruction, this place has outperformed itself. great leather sofas to unwind and relax, amazing televisions, and now you can have a drink while you’re relaxing with your cigar instead of having to walk through a maze of crappy NY Giants merchandise. great job.

This place is a hidden gem. The atmosphere, staff and food/​liquor/​wine selection makes for the perfect recipe for relaxation. The cheese and fruit platter is delicious, they have great scotches to pair with a cigar & the servers/​bartenders are always smiling. One downfall is the tvs are an issue to change sometimes and they don’t have all of the nfl games. My husband and I love coming in on Sundays to enjoy a game or two and the staff that are always there make us feel so welcome we forgot we’re not home sometimes. Highly recommend JR’s!!!

I absolutely love this place and can’t say enough good things about it. Everyone from the cigar sellers, to the bartenders, to the wait staff are very nice and very professional.
If you stay for a meal (and I don’t know why you wouldn’t since they give you a free cigar when you do) I strongly suggest getting the Cuban sandwich. They make a really good one. The nachos aren’t bad either.
In my opinion cigar lounges are really the key to world peace. People from all races, religions, & socioeconomic backgrounds come together and get along better than in any other social setting I’ve seen. Everyone is relaxed, and nice to each other. Stock brokers are chatting with garbage men, who are laughing it up with computer programmers. It’s fantastic, and I’m convinced that all cigar guys (and even a few girls) are just about the nicest people around.
If I have one beef it’s this … A few months back the place underwent a big renovation which knocked out the center retail space and replaced it with a huge lounge with comfortable seats and a ton of new flat screen tv’s. The room is beautiful, but somebody forgot to order the NFL package for Sunday football. What??? Why build that big beautiful room tailor made for Sunday football and show one friggin game? Come on guys, let’s use some common sense here! Other than that, keep up the good work. I’ll be back many more times, just not on NFL Sunday’s.

Holy shit! This place is awesome!!! I was stunned when I walked into a humidor that was literally bigger than my house. There’s also a big lounge, bar, etc. This place is amazing. If you’re a cigar aficionado, this place will give you a boner.

I visited this place a few times and all I see is new faces working there, looks like it a revolving door to me wonder to myself why people don’t stay! I sat with some friends to eat food is like ok but not really to much to choose from and service is ok I was watching a few of the young girls horse playing by there register dancing like kids twirling around which I found not appropriate, you would think with a place like this it would be women working there instead of kids all there are is kids, I was there one night I guess this guy is a regular talking with theses young girls laughing so fourth and this same guy ready to start a bar fight with another customer manager standing there walked away did nothing about it a server from lounge got in middle of them and said this is not the place for this everybody go back to your seats why is the server stopping this not the manager??? From that day on I stopped coming in its like a free for all there and feel bad for the employees that are good there…

This is a great place to get together with friends and have a few beers. Unbelievable selection of cigars and really nice bar.
I don’t live or work nearby but every few months, my friends and I make the trip — definitely worth it.

Best selection of cigars in the Milky Way galaxy. If you can’t find it here, you don’t need it. So many smokes so little time. Don’t ever want to leave. There is even a bar/​restaurant. Limited menu but very well made. And… and you get a free cigar courtesy of the house. What’s not to like. Friendly staff, regular cigar deals and a huge selection. Awesome!

My friends and I are there at least twice a month going on at least 7 years. I enjoy grabbing a Room101 or Davidoff to smoke while catching up on current events with the group. The sandwiches and specials are good along with the drinks. They just opened the new lounge space which is awesome where you can order drinks and smoke but unfortunately you can’t eat in there. It’s a really nice lounge though with comfortable deep leather chairs.

I’m in Jersey and I’m looking for a place to wind down the week. I figured, let me grab a beer, eat a quick dinner and then go to JR Cigar.
I should have read the reviews instead of just doing a search for Cigars. This place, has EVERYTHING!
When you drive up the windows say WORLDS LARGEST CIGAR STORE
(In my mind I’m thinking, yeah ok)
When you step to the right and open that door, its like another world.
When you first walk in, its like an old Irish pub. Its dark with dark woods and taps! There are at least 10 beers on tap. And everyone is smoking! There is smoking allowed at the bar.
When you walk thru the bar, you step into another area. To the right is a wall of alcohol for sale. A huge wine collection as well as vodka, gin and tequila. Huge!
A woman greets me and says, would I like to try a sampling of our featured wine?
Yesssssssss!
I now move to the left, the cigar area. Oh baby. There are cigars for sale, as high from the floor to the ceiling. It could be difficult to navigate but the folks behind the counter are knowledgeable and are there to assist with your cigar purchase.
I choose my cigar and light up. I continue my survey of the space. In the back is a deli counter. I see these folks working hard and making meals for the customers.
JR Cigar has an area for diners, there are multiple (4) top tables to grab bite to eat and drink a beer.
I go back to the bar, smoke my cigar and order a Boddington on tap all while watching the Yankees pound the Red Sox.
Life is good.

Okay, firstly, I am not a connoisseur of cigars so my review is based only on my need for a lighter and the customer service I experienced. When I walked in I felt kind of dumb because they were doing construction and I was like, «so where’s the store?» Once I figured it out I was good to go. I had no idea what to expect; this place is absolutely beautiful– I didn’t feel like I was in a store.
Anyway, I was there for a lighter and they had a nice selection of zippos– anything you could be looking for. Wayne (what my receipt showed) helped me out. He set me up with my all the necessary accessories I would need and he gave me some helpful tips and advice too. I felt he went above and beyond. It’s this kind of human customer service that made me really appreciate this place. I do not smoke (and this location is far from me), but I will come back here in the future to purchase things for those in my life who do!

The fellas and I try our best to meet up here at least 2 a month. The walk-​in humidor has tons of cigars to choose from. Ask about the cigar of the week and food specials. Sometimes they have cool new recipes they’re trying out.
My choice is smokes tend to be:
— king b’s
— anything don pepin
— San cristobals
— Ashton’s
— rocky patel sun grown
The simple ingredients for fun are 1. Good friends 2. Great smokes and 3. Good drinks

My friends and I love this place. The largest walk in humidor on the east coast. The servers are very friendly and mostly quick. The food is decent, I had a Pastrami sandwich today… very good. What makes it even better is that fact that lunch comes WITH a cigar. Today’s selection was a Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real. A very nice match with the Pastrami and a Guinness.

If you cannot find a cigar you like here you will most likely not find one anywhere.
Huge selection of premium cigars in countless sizes all piled in the giant walk in humidor. The staff is always very helpful in assisting you in picking out a new smoke or locating your favorites.
Nice lounge and bar area with a great selection of Scotch, cognac, beer and other beverages. They also have some decent small plates and sandwiches.
The adjacent wine/​spirits section, while a bit pricey, also has some interesting finds.
