Great food and atmosphere. We were here for«the all you can eat fish». Over the top. Breaded perfectly the veggies were FRESH. Not the frozen. This is a local bar. Nothing fancy. Just great food and cold beer. YUM!

I’m originally from Northern Wisconsin so trust me here when I say… their Friday fish fry is OUTSTANDING! You have a choice of three different fish… walleye, perch or cod. They are all excellent. They serve the absolute most delicious cole slaw I think I’ve ever had… in a very large cup. Simply subperb! I’ve also been here for their St. Patty’s Day corned beef/cabbage. It’s all you can eat and the corned beef is almost TOO lean. The cook puts a new twist on al dente’ with the veggies tho… cabbage and carrots are almost raw. That’s a shame and an easy fix. Joe, the owner, is a good-spirited, fun guy which is a good thing because one of the bar tenders is a major pill. Not sure what his problem is but it’s obvious he hates his job and especially the customers. Go for the food though. It’s truly amazing. Word to the wise… get there early on Friday. The dining room is very small and you’ll wait a long time. The fish fry is THAT good!

I love dives and have passed this place a hundred times. Finally decided to swing in on a sunday for some bloody marys before dinner. This place is a definite dive and has a major regular/local older crowd. It was pretty chill though the bartender really didn’t seem like he wanted us there. I almost said we should leave because that’s the type of vibe he was giving off. Even when we asked questions about the place, he didn’t really give a shit. The other bartender came a while later and was very nice and friendly and was great so we stayed a little longer. I think the bloodys are way too small for the price they charge. On a sunday you can go to most places and get discounted ones at full size. Theirs are minis. With a shorty beer for a sidecar, they were about $ 6. Hell i can go to the landmark and get a good bloody with the fixings for $ 5 and a sidecar and it’s a full pint. Also he would take away the caddy with the sauce/spice bottles before i even finished. I doubt i will be back, but we’ll see…

I can’t believe my last review is 5 years old! Wow where has the time gone??? Anyway I have been here many, many times for the burgers and the corned beef at St. Patty’s day and the cold beer but this review is for fish fry… for the all you can eat fish fry! With three choices of all you can eat fish fry! Perch, catfish and cod. I had the perch and my wife had the cod, both were excellent. The perch was lightly breaded and the cod had a little heavier breading. It came to us really hot. You could tell it was just cooked and not laying around under a heat lamp. You have a choice of red potatoes or fries. I love red potatoes and my wife loves fries, neither disappointed. The order came with some mixed vegetables that were excellent. This place hasn’t changed in years and the menu has gotten better. Their kitchen does a good job. Now open for breakfast on weekends for only two hours. 7 to 9 am I believe. The breakfast menu is small, so small they offer only 1 item and it’s 2 fried eggs, bacon, toast and potatoes. Yummy! Seating at the bar or there is a room with about 10 tables away from the bar noise. I need to make a Fish Fry List and put this place near the top.

Wow. Definitely a dive, and in the middle of nowhere.(i’ve visited twice, in teh morning). You’ll get an older, quieter crowd. My group was pretty loud and rambunctious, coming in at 9am(we’re night shift nurses). The food was surprisingly good. Although MASSIVE, the grilled chicken sandwhich i had was pretty tasty. on another trip, I had a grilled cheese. The bartender was happy to customize it, adding some bacon and tomato. I was also spoiled in getting a split halfsies on fries and mushrooms. The mushrooms were really pretty good. Pricing is cheap. Drinks are what you expect. I had a bloody mary once and wasn’t impressed… i’d stick to bottles and straight shots, maybe, rather than mixed cocktails. But not bad! I came at an off-hour… so i don’t know if my review is accurately reflective… but those are my two cents!

Be here a few times ;) for eats and drinks. Very small place, was told it has been in the family for 40 – 50 years(i like that) The bartenders are always nice, food good and clean bathrooms and late at night the bartender doubles as the cook, may take a little longer to get a drink but like i said small famiy run place so i get it and enjoy it.

I don’t know what more you can ask for in a little bar like this. We went here at lunch on a recommendation from a friend. It’s not fancy, but it is clean. The service was great, the food was fantastic and the price was reasonable. I had the steak sandwich and it was two pretty large pieces of steak on a great bun. Absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back. This place is a real gem.

Mixed feelings on this place — hence the 3 stars. I had heard some great comments about their burgers so a friend and I checked it out. The burger was good, but I have had better. The bun had a good taste to it — more like the homemade variety, but as you eat the burger the bun diminishes to barely a wrap around the burger. It was $ 7.50 plus $ 0.75 for cheese — a decent price for a fairly large burger, fries extra — came with chips that were so/so. Bartender/waitress was friendly service was good. It’s a classic old bar — still kept pretty clean inside too! I plan to stop there again sometime to try some of their other food specials — the $ 13.75 Thursday night steak special and the Friday fish fry to name a few. Glad I stopped in.

This is a true neighborhood bar where everyone is friendly, plenty of TV’s to watch the game, cold beer, hearty drinks and at times, live music. I ordered the fried chicken which was OUTSTANDING and had a couple of cold beers. Seriously, go for the chicken… great value!

This bar is nothing special, but I honestly mean that in the nicest way possible. It’s not pretentious and the price is right. If you’re simply looking for an affordable drink with regular people then this is the place to be. I ordered a few Bloody Marys as a post-5K race breakfast and was quite content. They aren’t fancy or anything, but they are strong and cheap. I can appreciate that.

Arrived in Wheeling and since my hotel room wasn’t quite ready yet, I asked for recommendations of where to eat. The guy at the desk said«just go north about 1 mile…» — not really a recommendation but at least got me going in the right direction. Drove down the main street in Wheeling and saw a bunch of the usual culprits… chain restaurants. Then I saw Kilcoynes and decided to give them a try since I prefer local joints rather than chains. My first impression was uh oh… as my flip flops stuck to the floor… but I decided to give them a try. I was the only one in the dining room which is where I preferred to eat, but the bar area was pretty full. I ordered the fish and chips — after all this IS an Irish Pub, so what better thing to order. The waitress was very friendly and gave me the history of the restaurant and was attentive without being hovering. Very generous portions of cod filets and a big plate of fries. Yummy! Full belly… and ready to check into my hotel room and take a nap!

Feels like you’re in Wisconsin… great bar burgers… interesting mix of neighborhood«regulars». Once you get past the«slightly seedy» feeling of the group at the bar, you’ll have a good time. Drink prices are fair & the beer is cold. Actually an OK place to hang out and probably NEVER see anyone you know.
