Carnicerias Jimenez

As far as the groceries, I have nothing bad to say. It is what it is. You want tortillas, cereal, produce, they have it. Shopping isn’t rocket science as long as the shelves are stocked, nothing really to complain about. However, the homemade food in the back is something totally different. It’s a skill and customer service along with health concerns that come into play, so here is my issue. The salsa that I received from the back tasted like tequila and who knows how old it was sitting there for. It completely took me by surprise when I inspected it further and smelled it. Disgusting. The Grilled chicken was completely dried out and reminding me of what bricks might feel like if it were chewed. The food looks delicious but when you have a experience such as the salsa event I touched on earlier, it really makes you think on what type of food conserving methods they enforce. Perhaps today’s beans are a mix of last week’s beans. Needless to say I left with a seriously BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH. If your a gambling person, Go for it. I, on the other hand will not be coming back. Gave it 2 stars because the grocery portion is decent. But other than that peace and hair grease.

I Though this place could be better than la Rosita.
Butchers are very rude. I heard one of them say something like f###ing customers.
Deli lady also very rude. I asked her for a sample of ham on sale they had. She said to me. Its good ham everyone its getting it taste good you dont need to try it.
Bakery its one of the good things here but dont buy the chocoflan it will make you sick.

Worst customer experience ever. Went with my husband, who is Spanish, and tried to Oder food at the restaurant. The young man working starting harassing us, telling us he didn’t have the food we wanted, then he laughed at my husband and called him a profanity! Waited over 25 mins for the manager to show his face who went over to the kid and asked him to apologize. The kid would not and laughed at the manager! The manager refused to take responsibility or hold the young man accountable. It was one of the worst experiences we have had in years. This is an awful place to go to and they do not care about their customers whatsoever. Stay away!

A lot of things here are cheaper, like fruits and hot food, etc but not so much the basics like milk.
That being said, this place is great. They have a ton of specialty items for good prices, they keep the store pretty clean compared to most specialty/​foreign type grocery stores, and the taqueria is super good.
I will definitely be back, even just to pick up a torta or something

Good selection but clueless help. Stand around doing anything else except god forbid help a customer. Butcher and deli are the worst.

My coworker took me to the small restaurant inside the store for lunch. Honestly, that was the best torta I have ever had. Will be back!

I have been a customer here for about 15 years. I mainly shop Sunday mornings and get excellent service from most employees. The restaurant they have inside has great food and a huge variety.
Tonight was a different story I got pushed away by an employee who didn’t feel like ringing me up. I personally think it was a racism. I was more surprised to find out that the person who didn’t want to ring me up was the night time manager. After I paid for my groceries I asked him why he had done that and said «sorry I meant to apologize». Well he didn’t apologize he took care of two other people and then went into his office, without apologizing. He said he would never treat a customer any different no matter if they were long term customers or new customers. Manager Pedro lied because he did not treat me equally to the other two customers he did ring up.
I probably wont be going back for a while if I even do go back. If I do go back it will be Sunday mornings when I don’t have to deal with the racism from manager Pedro.

There is a restaurant inside this grocery store, and it is amazing for the price. There are great, great tortas which are well made and you have some fresh juice options at prices that are a complete steal.
I tried a Chile Relleno torta here and it was effectively the size of a panini at Panera, along with some delicious and fresh beet juice. I also had a Chorizon torta and realized that two tortas is simply too much for a single human being to eat. Even myself.
Long story short: this place is a highly, highly underestimated logical place for mexican food that is definitely a step above places like el famous while being about the same price. Definitely not as well known as it should be aside from folks who go to this store regularly anyway.

This place may look like a grocery store from the outside, but it is actually a grocery store with a small Mexican restaurant inside of it! That’s right. Now let me explain. In order to get to this restaurant you need to walk inside the grocery store like you would any other grocery store, but there is one small difference. You don’t need to get a shopping cart. You might feel like people are staring at you and wondering why you didn’t get one, but trust me, you are just being paranoid. People come to this grocery store all the time and don’t use shopping carts. Now the key to a successful trip to this restaurant is focus. There will be a LOT of distractions. Have you seen the weird types of fruits and vegetables they have at Mexican grocery stores? A stroll through the produce section is more entertaining than a trip to the zoo. They’ve got like 8 different types of bananas and giant roots and cactus that I guess are edible. Forgot what I was going to write about. Anyway, this Carnicerias Jimenez is a very entertaining grocery store.

Good south-​of-​the-​border market. Specializes in meats, but I’m a vegetarian and liked the fresh veggie selection and there’s a stellar selection of beans (dried and canned) along with plentiful Mexican food combinations.
The produce can be found less expensively at the International Market at Rand and Arlington Hts Blvd, not too far away. But the produce here is all top grade, clean, and a wide selection.
Excellent contribution to the neighborhood. Fair prices. I’m a fan and found myself tempted into quite a bit.

I hate to say it, the service is real friendly and the food is generally ok… I mean, the vampiro drink and two over easy and all… This place is not the greatest of Jimenez locations, and it’s nothing compared to the Fullerton location in the city… but if you’re in Wheeling this is about the safest bet for real Mexican. I think you may be better off buying some stuff here and cooking it yourself though. Tacos are good, standard tacos, huevos over easy ranchero style are dope! Caldo de res, they never really have it anymore –is good in the late AM, so too are the elusive enchiladas.
This is not Pilsen or Little Village, or new Maxwell… so…ya know.

Its a good Mexican supermarket, however sometimes its a little dirty there. They have a mexican bakery and a little mexican sit down restaurant corner. I heard good things about the food, but so far did not have the pleasure to try it.

After being seriously disappointed by another grocery store that recently opened up in the area, my husband and I ventured over to Jimenez. This is a fantastic find for produce. I’ve been having trouble finding quality produce in the area and so far the prices and selection here can’t be beat. Everything is super clean and well organized. They do have a lot that you can find at Dominick’s and Jewel too, which surprised. It’s a nice blend. I definitely won’t be shopping anywhere else for my produce.

Over priced compared to Mexican groceries in the city but it has all Mexican products for your next meal.

This supermarket is hyper hispanic with tons of Mexican products. It is like going to a supermarket in an hispanic neighborhood of LA or Phoenix. The butchers are really top notch although their ingles is pretty poor. Helps to speak Spanish.
I got some arrachera or hanger steak to grill later on. And the butcher asked me in Spanish if I wanted it thinner. So he cut an already thin steak three times on the horizontal. I was really impressed with his knive skills. That wasnt easy.
I also saw other butchers breaking down entire pigs, hardly anyone does that any more.

I love this store for the sheer volume of hispanic products because I love to cook and try new things. I have never seen anything like their meat counter… I didn’t think real butchers existed anymore! these guys cut the meat right in front of you, everything is fresh, lines are long. The little taqueria inside the store is a little intimidating if you are a gringo and don’t speak spanish, like me, but go there… the steak tacos are fabulous. Prices are hit or miss, you gotta shop the sales.
Pass on the fish counter, not fresh!
