empanadas are ok. Several of the cakes that are moist and very much like buttery muffins or pound cakes.

Tried some pastries and they were good. Cakes seem kinda pricey if you want to order. Located in a good place in Wheaton.

They made a beautiful, delicious, absolutely perfect Tres Leches cake for our party! All 30 of the guests raved about this wonderful dessert — and I’m sure they’ll be ordering cakes from El Sabor for their parties, too. When I picked up the cake, I tried one of their empanadas — and that convinced me to get breakfast or brunch at El Sabor very soon.

The idiots who low star this place don’t know what empanadas are for. They’re for breakfast.

This bakery is a hidden treasure in Wheaton. I stop by to pick up baked goods every now and then to bring into work. Everything I have tried from here is really yummy — there is something that looks like a croissant with dolce de leche in it that is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It smells so good in there as soon as you walk in the door! My favorite part is the customer service, though. The lady behind the counter has helped me several times, and she is so cheerful and pleasant. I think she may be the owner, or the baker, or maybe even both. You can tell she takes so much pride in her bakery and it shines through in her wonderful attitude and smile. It makes me feel good about supporting a local store and I always leave feeling happy!

I have been a loyal client here for over a year now and keep telling family and friends about this place. Aside from the delicious fresh baked goods, their #5 combo is amazing. The mix of scrambled eggs, ham and refried beans is to die for. If you are looking for a great spot, look no further.

Just had a great experience at El Sabor. Mariza helped pick out some great desserts for some picky people and we special ordered a birthday cake. Very good customer service and tasty desserts!

We got There for breakfast since they are open for it and we experienced the Worst Customer Service and no variety. No menu because the manager left it at home and no one eager to help us decide to order. We left!

A pretty unknown place(they don’t have a website) that produces really FANTASTIC… everything. Lots of small batch stuff with trying out new and fantastic recipes(I’ve never seen zucchini pupusas or chocolate alfajores!) with great quality ingredients(the pork pupusas actually have chunks of pork!) The cakes are fantastic. Light, fluffy and not too sweet, I had a strawberry and coconut one with a heavenly whipped cream inside & out(not the typical heavy buttercream at other places).

We stopped in this place this morning, stomachs grumbling. It’s a tiny little place that SMELLSLIKEHEAVEN. As you enter, turn right and you will see trays and tongs at the end of the front display. Grab a tray, drop a paper liner on it, grab some tongs and hit the cases. There are literally dozens of choices of fresh hand crafted pastries to choose from that are in classic Mexican, El Savadoran, Argentinian, etc. style. They have empanadas next to semita next to alfajores. Yummy! There is also fresh cheese and tortillas in the refrigerated case at the end, along with a few cases of juices, aguas, sodas, etc. You can also order from the menu, which is full of savory choices like salads, sandwiches, soups, burritos, pupusas, tamales, quesadillas, empanadas, and breakfast. My sweetie got a chorizo burrito and it was delicious! Their coffee was surprisingly good, too. Excellent service and incredibly hard working staff — we can’t wait to return!

This place reliably produces great food. I recommend the empanadas, tamales, breakfast and cakes. Recently I ordered a birthday cake for my girlfriend. It exceed expectations in size and taste. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. It is a fantastic part of the neighborhood.

Been here a couple of times for dessert after dining in Wheaton. Nice selection of pastries and cakes. The owner is a very kind lady who offered me tastes of a number of her products. The tres leches was great!

A simple unassuming place that offers you a pretty damn good selection of baked goods at an astonishing price. You have real choice and good quality; for example the apricot filling in some of the pastries. Good way to stock the shelf at home for breakfast and coffee time. The empanadas were a bit disappointing. Don’t expect much in terms of seating or coffee.

We walk our 3-year old down several times a week for an evening treat from El Sabor. The pleasant woman behind the counter is simply the best — always cheerful and always offering us a sample of something we haven’t tried before. We often end up with a cupcake or two or a churro or some fine pastry. The bread pudding is a real treat. For Mother’s Day, I picked up a beautfiully decorated chocolate cake. The layers of cake moist and spongy with the perfect, not-overly-done icing. It was divine. And… and the prices. It’s amazing what you can walk out of there with for under $ 10. From now on, I’m skipping Dunkin and buying the office treats at El Sabor. What a great addition to the neighborhood!

The cakes are amazing here! They are flavorful, moist and the best part is that they use whipped vs buttercream — which in my opinion tastes a lot better. We had a slice of the coconut cake and vanilla and chocolate cake. Sadly I don’t live close otherwise I would pay them a weekly visit. Will definetly consider them for a special event.

My fiancé and I discovered this place one sleepy Sunday morning when we were looking for a good breakfast place. They have a small but delicious breakfast menu and we tried several things because everything sounded so good. The breakfast sandwich on plain pan de pais to order was delicious(and they were happy to do a version without meat since we don’t eat it), as were the strawberry crepes and fried yucca. They also had delicious-looking sweets and beautiful cakes on display. The server was friendly and happily provided a box for our overabundance of food so we could take it home and enjoy it later(with some lighthearted teasing… mucha comida indeed!). Best of all, this was an inexpensive indulgence and came with free coffee refills. We hope we’ve found our ‘go to’ local spot for good breakfasts and the occasional event — either way, we’ll be back!

This is a new, nice looking, clean restaurant, so that’s a plus. They say they carry lots of things, but their offerings need to be a bit more consistent. I was looking for beef saltenas in the area. This place had chicken saltenas that weekend, but said they had beef saltenas every other weekend. I bought 2 chicken saltenas anyway to try them out, but when I got home to have them for dinner, I was surprised to bite into bones. I tried the 2nd one, and bones again. I ended up throwing them away because they had bone chips and longer bones in them. The next weekend, I figured I’d give them another chance for their beef saltenas. I was told that they only had chicken saltenas again. But when I reminded her that she said they had beef saltenas every other weekend, she just said they only had chicken saltenas again. I had never had saltenas with bones in them before, but I figured it was possible. So I asked if their chicken saltenas had bones in them because the two I had bought last weekend had bones in them, she said they should not have bones and that was all. When she said their shouldn’t be bones, I guess I was expecting an apology. Since this place is new, I rated them with 2 stars instead of 1 star because I’m hopeful that they will improve their customer service with more time and experience… after all, they do appear to still be relatively new in 2012.

This is a more traditional central American style bakery with semitas, empanadas de carne and several other sweet breads. My wife and I went there for breakfast the other day. She had the Plato typical which had scrambled eggs, sour cream, plantains and sausage. I had the sausage and egg sandwich on a fresh baked French roll. The were both excellent. The owner was very friendly and courteous and made our experience very enjoyable. With several other bakers in the area you have to add a little extra to stand out and they did. Will be back again.
