History

Established in 1974.

In 1974, Mike Dugan was with Arthur Andersen, when he discovered that privately-​held business owners wanted more than a number cruncher. They wanted an outside advisor to help them understand the accounting numbers and to help them make important decisions. Small and mid-​sized privately-​held business owners needed the financial expertise of a controller but couldn’t afford to hire one of their own. Mike Dugan started the firm out of his house. Jerry Lopatka joined the firm in 1978 and the firm became Dugan & Lopatka shortly thereafter.

Today Dugan & Lopatka offers advice to businesses and nonprofit organizations with and without CFOs and controllers. We don’t just produce the financial reports and tell our clients how they did last period; we look ahead and help them understand what those numbers mean to the organization going forward.

Jerry L.

Business Owner

Jerry Lopatka is the managing principal of Dugan & Lopatka. He specializes in tax planning and business consulting for privately held companies and works extensively in the areas of corporate tax, mergers & acquisitions, real estate transactions and estate planning.

Jerry has 30 years of experience as a practicing CPA and chartered global management accountant. He is a 1975 graduate of Elmhurst College and has a master of science in taxation degree from DePaul University Graduate School of Business.

Jerry is also an active speaker on tax and real estate development topics before trade groups, business organizations and companies, churches and community groups.
