History
Established in 1981.
Opened in 1981 by Harriet and her mother, Fran, Harriet’s Treadle Arts was the first quilt store in the Denver area to specialize exclusively in machine quilting, piecing, and appliqué. Now this is the standard in almost all stores nationwide. Today the store is owned and operated by Harriet and her daughter, Carrie.
Starting in a small 600 square foot house, the store is now 3,600 square feet of quilting heaven! Over 3,500 bolts of the finest quality cotton fabrics, over 17 different types of batting to choose from, an extensive thread selection, and notions for every use are offered in a very warm, homey atmosphere. Park benches and magazines are offered to keep the husbands entertained while you shop.
Meet the Manager
Carrie H.
Manager
My mom (Harriet) and my grandma (Harriet Frances– better known as «Fran») opened this store when I was 4 years old. I always enjoyed playing with the fabric and colors that were the mainstay. I left Colorado when I was 18 to pursue a different life, in Range Management and Wildlife Biology, in North Dakota and later Wyoming. However, I seemed to keep getting pulled back in to events and things at the quilt shop. So in 2006, when my mom was going to close the store after 25 years in business– I freaked out… we couldn’t close the quilt shop! So I took over management and moved back to Colorado to run the shop full time. It is a great place to be. I love my staff– they are super friendly and helpful to all our customers — and I love the store– we are a unique entity with regard to the other quilt shops in Denver– that’s why I had to keep it open and running!
