Benson’s Service Station

So I have been having cars serviced here for years, but I really think this car I have now just likes to go here. The service is excellent, even when I go there with really stupid problems. Hot tar stuck on the tires, really my car will find any excuse. I usually call to make appointments for when I can get there with no problems. If the repair is going to take time they will give you a ride home, work (if it’s near by) or drop you off at the train station if you want. They will also pick you up. I think the prices are reasonable compare to another place I strayed to since it was closer that never fixed the problem correctly. Joe runs the place now and you can find the ‘retired’ Mr. Benson hanging out there giving people rides in his shiny red truck.

This has been my family mechanic since my parents moved to Weymouth 25 years ago. I can’t tell you how many cars my parents and my sisters have gone through, and all have gone to Benson’s.
I can tell you in a family of 5, we’ve each had our fair share of clunkers, and we’ve taken everyone to Benson’s to keep them living that much longer.
The best anecdote that sums up the Benson’s experience for me is this: In college I had a 14 year old Mercury Sable with 200k+ miles on it. One day, the front right tire started smoking. I had it towed to Benson’s to find out the inside of my car had pretty much melted. The calipers were shot along with all sorts of things I can’t even remember the names of. Benson’s replaced EVERYTHING, and should have charged me well over $ 2000 for the fix, but, knowing I was a college student, and having known us for literally decades, he charged me under $ 1000 — strictly parts, no labor.
This is why, even though no one in my family lives in Weymouth anymore, and we’ve scattered around Boston, we all use Benson’s to this day. I drive my car from Roslindale to Weymouth whenever I need a fix. It’s not easy to find a mechanic you can trust, and when you find one, you hang on to him/​her!
They get 4 stars instead of 5 because most recently they decided to do alot of work on my sister’s clunker without her approval first. The fixes cost more than the car. Generally, they ask to make sure, but there was some miscommunication between the mechanic, my mom, and my sister. I’m not sure who is really to blame, but it does knock off a star.
