Not Your Average Joe’s

Excellent lunch at the new Westwood Not Your Average Joe’s. The food was delicious, interesting and the service was extraordinary. Our server, Tony B, handled the food allergies we have to perfection with ease and and lots of knowledge and courtesy. He is one in a million. We will be back again soon– and specifically ask for Tony B!

Finally! The Westwood NYAJ is OPEN!!!
I´m a regular customer at some of their other restaurant (Needham, Waltham, etc), and have been waiting for this location ever since it was announced (over a year ago). It has finally opened a few weeks ago, in the University Station complex on University Avenue in Westwood (it´s not with all of the other stores though… being much closer to the Amtrak Station). Conveniently accessible via Route 128 (Exit 13), and from Route 1 (University Ave exit).
This NYAJ´s exceeds most of my expectations and I´m planning on being a regular customer (along with the rest of the NYAJ locations). First impressions driving into the lot were very disappointing. The parking lot was huge and basically FILLED (how long was my party going to have to wait… or did they have a long wait already). At that point I didn´t know that the lot was for NYAJ AND for the Amtrak station. So if it looks really busy, know it´s not all for NYAJ, and there probably won´t be a long wait, or any wait (so relieved…). Anyway, the interior is BEAUTIFUL! It´s so modern, clean, and everything was immaculate (expected for a new spot), but this was overdone, and looks so much better and is much more appealing than that of Chili´s or another somewhat chain restaurant. My parties waiter, Jim, was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about everything on the menu (I was expecting a few bumps in the road for a new restaurant, as there normally are some for any, which I have experienced in the past). Additionally, the hosts were all friendly and attentive as well. It was also helpful that this location was running very quickly for so many people inside. I ordered one of the Backyard Burgers (my normal order from NYAJ), and it was made-​to-​order, flavorful, and delicious (as always). My complete experience at the Westwood location was all expected and more! Will look forward to continuing to give my business to this location and the rest. NYAJ is one of my favorite restaurants, and by far the best throughout the University Station complex. Deifnitely the best spot to check out if you´re shopping or just in the area. 5 stars.

Sad to see some negative reviews on here. I took my husband last night to celebrate him getting a new job. We were VERY impressed. The place is gorgeous, the food was fantastic and the service was top notch! We left very happy campers and will definitely be returning!

I’ve been to several Not Your Average Joe’s before in different locations and was initially excited when I saw this location open, as it is closer to my house. My boyfriend and I have gotten take out from the other locations (as I have a gluten allergy and their GF menu offers me a great variety). However, this was one of the worst experiences we’ve had at a Joe’s. We called in a take out order to be picked up and headed over. It was extremely busy there as it was a Sunday night around 6pm, and I approached the hostess and stated we were here to pick up a take out order. She rudely cut me off before I could finish my sentence and told me to stand off to the side and «we would be helped shortly». My boyfriend and I stood at the front desk for almost 40 minutes where there were 2 hostesses, 2 other workers cleaning menus, and the man in charge of take out orders and no one even said hello to us. No one asked us if they could help us, and the hostess who I had spoke to looked over at us repeatedly, knowing what we were looking for, and still said nothing to the take out person. We very much got the sense from everyone that it «wasn’t their job» to help us as we were not looking to sit down at a table. I don’t fault the young man who was taking care of the take out orders, because he genuinely didn’t know we were looking for our order. We also watched several people who looked like possible managers, or at least in charge of running the floor, pass by and look at us repeatedly and they also never approached to see why we were standing there staring at the front desk for so long. I finally asked the young man if he could check on the status of our food, as we saw multiple other people walk in to pick up take out orders and spend no more than 10 minutes waiting. He went back to the kitchen and found our food, and the time stamp on our order showed it had been sitting in the back for an HOUR. Our food was completely cold and we were extremely upset that we had wasted so much time standing around. He apologized profusely, which I could appreciate but the damage was done at that point. Again, I was not angry with him because as soon as he knew we were there for take out he was very prompt at finding our order and he put our issue to the top of his to-​do list. Instead, the hostess just brushed us off and didn’t want to deal with us since she was busy trying to seat people, and then pretended that she wasn’t the person who told us to stand there and wait when she never told him that he had a customer waiting. We will not be returning to this location and instead will drive the extra time to go to another location where the service is more prompt. The whole experience ruined our night.

The service was slow. The food was underwhelming. The restaurant itself is beautiful, ambiance is great, just wish the food was.

For only being open a week I have to say the service and food were both great! Sat at the bar and Melissa served us. Great job, can’t wait to come back!
Recommendations: buffalo Caribbean chicken appetizer and fresh fruit sangria! Yum!

This restaurant is incredible. Shrimp spring rolls are superb. I had chicken enchiladas.. delicious large portions with black beans and rice with a tasty cream sauce. Try the amazing raspberry lime rickey with pureed raspberries. I will be back often. Nichole is more than attentive. She checks to get everything perfect and is friendly and courteous.
