Deep Sea Charters

My dad brother and nephew when out fishing with these people they had terrible service and they over booked the trip. Their lines kept getting tangled and the deck hand did a very poor job of helping anyone. Overall out of all three not one caught a fish and the only thing the crew kept talking about was getting back for a bachelor party which was very unprofessional. When we called to see if we could get a refund on at least one of their fees they simply told us well you can’t catch fish every time. The captain obviously didn’t know what he was doing.
Do not go here!

Bought a sea charter for my dad and brother and the crew was completely unfriendly and unaccommodating.
They didn’t care about their guests and seemed to only care about making money. 18 people on a boat and only 4 fish were caught over 12 hours! The captain of the boat barely said anything to their guests and from the start told them he didn’t think they were going to catch much… Wow…
If you enjoy being crowded and being whipped through the sea for 12 hours and don’t care to catch anything then this is for you.

My trip on 7÷19÷15 on the Fury with Captain Mike started out bad and went down hill from there!
No drinking water on board!
Interior was filthy, sink looked like it had not been cleaned in years!
Only one deck hand (Victor) for 25 passengers.
Even though Victor and the Captain really hustled every time Fish On was called, they did not offer any fishing tips for newbies who were not catching anything during their quiet times, of which there were plenty!
In fact captain Mike spent most of his free time flirting with a drunk blonde!
The blonde girl and her friends were obviously drunk when they boarded and continued to drink during the whole trip!
They were very loud and foul mouthed and Mike only encouraged it by playing jokes on the blonde!
The was no fun banter or encouragement or fishing tips!
When I finally hooked a salmon Victor cut it loose with no explanation (I had to ask)
They showed no respect for the environment, throwing tackle, garbage and Mike’s cigarettes into the ocean!
This is actually a very short list of why this, my first time out on a charter turned into a truly awful experience!
They didn’t even offer any helpful hints to the poor people who got sick numerous times (like staying on deck vs going below)
Never, never, ever again on this boat!!! Or this Captain!!! If I could rate it a negative five, I would!!!

Went out on the Tequila Too for Rockfish and Ling Cod. The captain and deck hands were awesome and very helpful at running around to help everyone out. Unfortunately it took us longer than expected to catch our limits of Rockfish and the trip ended up being about 3 hours longer than expected. I thought it was awesome that they kept us out there to try to get the fish we came for instead of just calling it a day. We even caught Salmon that we got to keep! Needless to say we have fish in the freezer for the next 6 months! I underestimated just how much you get to take home with you!

My husband and I did the combo ling cod/​rockfish trip on the Playboy Too. The captain and his deckhand were excellent and extremely nice to everyone. They were fast to help everyone untangled lines, putting new baits and netting fish. We had to move a few times to find the rockfish, other than that rockfish were very easy to catch. The ling cod were a lot more difficult to find and catch, only two person on the boat were able to catch one and my husband was one of them.
It was a fun trip although almost everyone on the boat got seasick, us included, but we can’t wait to go again!

Went out on the Slammer for bottom fish. Skipper and one of the deckhands were great. We limited on Lings and Rockfish. Complaint is with the second deckhand, a young lady who was incredibly rude, yelling at paying customers the entire time. Think she has been watching too much Deadliest Catch. I am a customer, not one of your employees. A lot of the people on the boat were amazed that they paid money to be treated this way. Even when I tipped her she just grabbed the money without saying thank you. Get rid of the girl and the trip was great.

I’m a newbie at fishing and had a great time on one of their charter boats. Great fishing, captain, and deckhand!

I hosted a «work meeting» on Scooter, a 6 man fishing boat. There were 5 people fishing, and Capn Jeremy was awesome. He brought us to the silvers and we all limited by noon. I recommend Jeremy for a great day fishing out of westport.

Went out on the ultimate today, I was having a great day everyone was nice and having a good time. I only caught one ling cod but it was a really nice large one that had to be gaffed and netted it weighed around 12 – 15 lbs. So all is said and done and we are almost back to port and I go out to look at my lingcod and my number is marked on the smallest ling cod there that probably weighed 2lbs at most! What the hell? So I immediately say something to the deckhand and he tells me not to complain about my small fish! Wow, really? Never will I use your company again, do not belittle me.

I went with my father on the slammer charter fishing boat and this was not our first time. The captain is a great guy and great fisherman. We had a little trouble finding the sea bass but we got it done. His deckhand were curious and professional and helping every second they could. If you need a good fishing boat go with the slammer.

My Dad, brother, & I went aboard the Scooter on Sunday, August 25^th with Stan and Jim and had a great time. These guys know what they’re doing and worked their tails off to ensure all of us on board had a great experience. We caught plenty of fish and Jim filleted our catch for us at the end of the day. I plan on coming back next summer and would recommend to any of my friends.

My husband and I did a combo ling cod/​rockfish trip with Rhett on the Slammer. He and his crew were excellent and extremely accommodating as I use a walker. The rockfish were very easy to find and catch. The ling cod were a bit more difficult, but almost everyone caught one.
We can’t wait to go again!
Also, it’s worth it to stay at a hotel/​motel the night before because you’re in for a long day. If all you want is a bed, check out the Cranberry Motel. It’s worth the $ 40/​night just to be well rested. Other hotels/​motels start at $ 70.

Hmmm I’ve always used Deep Sea Charters for deep sea fishing trips ($ 130) on the Washington coast and I’m surprised to hear about the negative reviews. But the captain and the deckhand definitely make a huge difference in regards to the experience!
I’ve gone on the Tequila Too, and the Fury, but the boat that I’ve gone on at least 4 times is The Slammer. Captain Webber is awesome and the deckhand is one of two amazing ones that have been on my trips.
Even though it costs more to do so, I always rent a room at a brokedown palace hotel not too far away the night before. Friends that meet up with me for trips will drive from Seattle or surrounding areas, getting up at 2am to make the drive to Westport, WA. Pass. I pay $ 100 at the Super 8 minus 11 (that’s not its name but it fits) but get to sleep in until 4am, so I can have breakfast by the dock.
We are all loaded and ready to go by 5am (I’ve had as few as 6 people and as many as 10 on my boat). I have done halibut (longer trip out), but mostly do lingcod, rock cod, and salmon. I have caught my limit EVERY TRIP with Deep Sea Charters, no matter the fish. Rock cod is like catching popcorn, you bait a double hook with a live minnow (sorry dude), throw it in, and it’s like a popcorn machine under the boat with fish biting!
Once, it took me almost 40 minutes to pull in a salmon. It was GINORMOUS. And being the only girl on the boat, every guy wanted to help me pull it up, but I wanted the satisfaction of pulling it in myself. Needless to say, I didn’t work out my arms for a week after that trip.
The deckhand butchers the fish for all the people (we combine our catch and split evenly) and it’s fun to watch them fling the carcasses as we speed back to shore, because then we have a bunch of seagulls following us like a white cloud :)
Bring motion-​sickness pills if you are prone to it (and start taking them two days before, to get acclimated. Otherwise, you get super tired taking them only on the day you need them). We get back around 4pm and make the trek back to Seattle so we can fry up our cod/​grill our salmon.

WHAT EVER YOU DO DON’T GO ON THE BLUE EYES. THE CAPTAIN AND DECK HAND ARE COMPLETE JERKS.
I have been on the majority of boats through deep sea charters. I have fished all my life and know how to fish. There are great boats, ok boats and BAD boats.

Playboy Too:. Eric the captain is the nicest and most personable captain and his deck had really takes care of you and your fish. Top notch boat. Eric puts you on the fish and wont yell at you if you mess up.
–Bottom Fishing–
Slammer: Rhet really knows his stuff when it comes to bottom fishing. Top notch. He is the best bottom fishing boat in all of Westport.
BAD BOAT: BLUE EYES. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. HIS BOAT USUALLY HAS OPENING AND THERE ARE REASONS WHY… BECAUSE HE IS AN A-​HOLE.

On the «FURY» with captain Mike Harris. Avoid this guy like the plague is my advice.
I was definitely NOT happy with these guys AT ALL, and neither would you if you took them at their word. I strongly recommend staying as far away from these cheap fish-​heads as possible. On 7÷15÷2011 I signed up for what was supposed to be a combo LING/​ROCKFISH trip. I went out on the boat «FURY» captained by a guy named Mike Harris. His 6 year old kid has more horse sense than he does (and I’m not kidding — the little guy is a boy wonder).
Here’s how the day went down — put yourself in my shoes, ’cause if you go with these guys, this is what you could be facing:
1) I brought two buddies along on the trip, so right there, I made some money for this guy. One of the people I brought along was my brother-​in-​law who lives out of the country, and I told him this would be a GREAT ling cod trip. We were BOTH very disappointed with what went down.
2) I was a sucker and bought 3 tickets for the Ling Cod «derby» (don’t do it unless you plan on throwing your money away at the get-​go — I had NO CHANCE of even competing for a prize with this captain steering my day). At $ 120 a seat, plus the derby fees, times three fisherman isn’t exactly chump change.
3) We got out to a fishing spot and HAMMERED the rockfish. I mean, we pulled in limits for everyone on the boat in record time — and I busted my chops to help fill the buckets on the boat. Why? SO WE COULD HAVE MORE TIME TO FISH FOR LINGS. What an idiot I was…
4) Once we hit the boat limit for rockfish, Mike steered the FURY to a spot he claimed was good for lings. But uh oh, the current at this spot was so strong that (according to Mike) it would not allow the lines to stay put because the weights he had were not heavy enough. So after a measly 20 minutes of throwing our lines over for lings, he packs it in, tells us to pull up, and heads back for port.
Wait a second — EXCUSE ME???
To him, taking us to a fishing spot he frequents for Lings, where he KNOWS that the current can be strong if he fails to sync us up with the tide, is sufficient to keep his agreement with us to fish for Lings. Does he come prepared with heavier weights? Does he even TRY to take us to a different spot? Does he plan the trip according to the tides for the day so we all get a shot at Lings? Heck no. And don’t try to tell me he didn’t know the current gets strong on incoming/​outgoing tides. He was either asleep at the wheel re the tides or never intended for us to be in a position to catch any Lings. Either way, it stinks: he’s either lazy or incompetent in my book.
I pleaded with him to take us to some other spot (I already knew that other boats in the Deep Sea Charters fleet had been successfully catching lings that day: evidently the other captains DID check the tides and were getting good results…). But my pleadings fell on deaf ears, and he took us back to port.
Mike was courteous and all when I spoke with him about this, but he insisted that he knew what he’s doing, and has been skippering for 35 years. I don’t question his experience or expertise, but the fact is I relied on him to at least get us a shot at catching LINGS. That IS what I paid him for. I could care less how many years he has been at it, all I know is he let me down. I know skippers who’ve been at this game for less than 10 years who can run circles around Mike when it comes to RESULTS. He seems to think his comment about 35 years experience should either impress me, shut me up, or satisfy me that he did the best that could be expected. Sorry, one-​hole skippers who come uprepared with the right size weights and fail to get us fishing with the tide no matter HOW many years of «experience» they have are a joke in my book.
We had plenty of time to keep fishing, ’cause remember, we hauled in the rock fish in record time (by noon). All our a – busting efforts were in vain and simply resulted in him getting back to the harbor so he had more time to relax or do whatever was on his list that day.
So, be warned dear reader.
Oh, and one more thing. The owner (Chris) won’t be sympathetic to your pleas if you contact him about something like this, which I did. I wrote the guy a couple of emails and all he could do was wimper how sorry he was that I wasn’t satisfied with the results. It’s pretty obvious that he could care less. No offer of any kind to make up for his captain’s failure to perform.
So beware — if these guys say COMBO TRIP, what they really mean is CON TRIP.
My advice: spend your money at a charter outfit who respects their word, comes prepared, or offers you SOMETHING other than excuses and mealy-​mouthed rhetoric if they mess up. I sure won’t be going back to these guys ever again.

I was really impressed with this business and the crew and captain were friendly and extremely informative. The party I was with all reached their limits on both ling cod and rock fish. The deckhands were fast and they taught us how to handle fish for the times when they were too wrapped up helping someone else.
