Mackhard Barber Shoppe Westmont

I called the DG shop about a first trim on a beard. They told me to call Westmont and speak to Maria «She is the queen of beards» and I agree. She helped explain the way my beard was growing and helped make it look great.
I came back in a couple days later because after speaking to my better half, I should have taken Maria’s advice about the trim originally, she made the changes and gave me a great haircut. I have wavy hair and anyone that has wavy hair knows that when I say it was a good cut, it had to be good.
I will now be returning when the time comes again

I’ve been going here for months now and want to say that this place is the best! Maria is awesome and great at what she does. I don’t usually write reviews, but this was hands down the worst haircut of my life. My hair looks nothing like I wanted it to look. My neck is red and irritated from the neck shave. The hair at the back of my neck and around my ears are not lined up as they should be. I didn’t notice these things until I had come home otherwise I would have not paid for this haircut. It’s so bad that I am actually looking for a barber shop right now to fix my hair.

I tried Mackhard Barber Shoppe and was pleasantly surprised with a great hair cut and some good hair products as well. I will be back for my next cut.

I have been to this barbershop two times. The first time was a good experience but the second time the barber butchered my hair. The hair on the right side of my head is half the length of the hair on the left side of my head. It is visibly uneven.
The first time the barber was Steve who did a good job but the second time he wasn’t there and I ended up getting my haircut from this younger guy. Mid haircut he told me he is still going to barber school. I am not sure if it is even legal to let a barber without a license work at your shop. That in itself didn’t bother me if the guy knew how to cut hair.
I had hair all over my face and the guy didn’t even bother to brush them off. I don’t have much against the barber but he did not know how to cut hair or the etiquette of being a barber.
It is very irresponsible of the owner to let someone like that cut his customers hair. Though, I am sure the other barbers are good I will not be going here again. It was hands down the worst haircut of my life.

I don’t have to hair to speak of, but I take my young son here. We always see Steve at the Westmont location. Steve takes the time to and is meticulous about it. He is polite to my son and treats him as a person; a mini-​adult. My son has no hesitations going back. This is like the classic barbershop your dad might have gone to. The place itself is showing it’s age but it kinda works for the place and it’s purpose. I have nothing bad I can say of the place. One of the last few man-​caves.

Simply awesome. Steve cut my hair. Then a straight razor with warm shaving cream to clean the neck line is simply amazing. I will be going back again. Oh yeah the cut was a great job too. Perfect job of making it short on the bottom and longer up top. Fantastic!

This is the BEST place to get a great cut at an affordable price. More importantly Sarah is the BEST! She was at a budget chop shop, the one where every person is there has no idea how to cut hair. When I walked in here and saw Sarah I was so excited. She’s cut my hair for a few years but I left to come to the rail because of joe. Joe is an amazing old school barber and Sarah is a great addition. She knows exactly how I want my hair done and she delivers every time!

The reviews most definitely must be written by friends. I went with a friend and we both needed haircuts. My friend was sat down by a lady and he explained what he wanted. He told her what to do and fix the cut throughout the whole process. Meantime, I am waiting there when a guy, who I presume is Joe, pops up from a door. That was around 1:20p so I asked Joe if he had anybody in his chair and he said «I’m all booked man, I have to take these appointments.» So with him saying that and my friend telling the barber want to do the whole time was already a heads up for me not to give them my business. To make matters worse…40 mins pass by and Joe has been on his phone THE WHOLE TIME when he could have been cutting my hair and his appointment was late. I told the woman that me and my friend needed haircuts but after seeing all this, I just walked out! Horrendous customer service, don’t let the reviews and rating fool you!!!

Visited this shop for the first time this week and I think I have found my new barber. Hands down the best cut since I moved to Chicagoland about 2 yrs ago. I am a fan of the old school barber shop and hope that this one will stay true to form. Also, Joe used some product on my neck after a neck shave. It felt great. I asked about it afterward; he said it’s something he’s working on, developing. That’s initiative and commitment to the business. I’ll be back with my son.

A great barbershop with a classic look and feel… Small but comfortable. I have known the head barber for a long time and he always delivers quality work! Plus where can you go for a hot shave nowadays? Seems few and far between… But The Rail (Across the street from the Metra station on Burlington Ave.) offers fresh hot shaves, clean cuts and a friendly experience.
