Bales Ace Hardware & Lumber

Great, old-​school hardware store. I usually find what I need, and if for some reason I can’t, one of the friendly staff will take me exactly where the item is located. When it comes to shopping for paint, light bulbs, getting keys made and other basic items, I’m tired of the Home Depots of the world. Bales Ace is, quite literally, the Place.

Skip the big box. This Ace hardware will welcome you when you enter the store, show you where the product you need is and not just point with a surly face and say it’s down that way somewhere. They will ask you what kind of project you are working on and help you find what you need, make great suggestions and help you get your project done the right way and the first time. Why is there always time to do a job over again, but never enough time to do it right the first time? Go to Bales ace, save time and do it right.

This is an exceptional store! All my purchases at Bales over the past year have been modest, yet repeatedly the staff members who have assisted me have patiently taken the time to answer all my questions. While there are other hardware stores that are closer to my home, I hold off on making hardware store purchases until I have an opportunity to stop in at Bales because they always have what I’m looking for, and the customer service here is outstanding.

Bales is a place who needs NO review. Helpful and cheerful employees, great selection of goods, location is perfect! They have everything you need to fix everything your heart desires.

Very nicely stocked, especially considering the smaller size, but the real value is in the helpful staff. They always have excellent suggestions for ways to solve your problems; I’ve had some odd little issues crop up in our place, and they’ve been invaluable. I even laughed a little when one employee warned me about how hard it is to match cream paint colors, but then took my large swatch, eyeballed it, did a quick mix, painted on the swatch, and matched it the first try!

I’ve been shopping here for 25 years. I love the personal service provided here. Today, on one of the busiest days of the year, the owner took the time to trim a door I bought somewhere else. You’ll never find the expert & knowledgeable help you’ll find here. I’ve also found the prices very competitive to the big box stores. Last week, I went to buy a small heater on sale. The sale was over, but was still given the sale price when asked. I’ll give Bale’s Ace my business over a big box any day!

I’ve usually had very good service here, and Stan is very knowledgeable and polite. Unfortunately, I took my doors to be re-​screened and had a terrible experience with one of the other long-​time employees. I dropped the doors off on Friday at 3:00 and was promised I was «first in line» and it would be completed «first thing tomorrow’. I was surprised that it would be $ 80 to re-​screen two regular sized screen doors, but agreed anyway. After not receiving a call by 2:00 on Saturday, I stopped in and asked for an update. I was told by the same employee that the doors wouldn’t be done until at least Tuesday. When I said that he promised me it would be done «first thing,» he accused me of lying and became belligerent. I took the screens back and got a refund.
I’ve always gone to Bales Ace Hardware knowing they are much more expensive than Home Depot or Menards, but did so anyway because it’s locally owned and usually offered good service. After this experience, I’m not going back.

Bales Ace has a pretty good selection of items for being a smaller neighborhood store, but the lumber yard definitely rivals any of the big box stores. There is always someone knowledgeable around to help, and they treat their customers right.
I was in need of a drywall saw and couldn’t find one. An employee walked me to the correct aisle and showed me the selection. The best/​most well put together one was on sale the previous week, and even though the promotion was over they gave me the sale price.
You can tell they really know their stuff. When I run into problems on a project, I can just describe the problem and they can offer an easy and cost-​effective solution.
Best thing, you really can tell they enjoy doing their jobs. All the employees are super friendly. Some things might cost a little more here than other stores, but when you’re dealing with friendly and knowledgeable people, you don’t mind spending a little more.

This is the «typical» local hardware store that my father used to take me to when I was growing up. They are like family helping family. They care about their customers and go out of their way to help. A very well stocked and organized store, with very helpful people. You need help, they either know the answer or will find it out.

Highly recommend Bales for your everyday hardware needs. While they are much smaller than the big box hardware stores they offer a wide variety of merchandise. In addition they offer a good advice and will even send you to the competition if needed.
