The Frightmare Compound

What used to be a Colorado tradition has turned into a circus of capitalism. Three different price levels, snack booths, a dj spinning 80’s music (seriously?), a giant pay-​per-​jump airbag, and that’s just while waiting in line.
Our group of 4 was combined with a group of 2, which guaranteed that exactly One person would experience the fun. The scared group of cheerleaders in front of us went so slow that we knew what was going to happen around every corner. It got so bad that the group Behind us managed to catch up, making it a group of 10; which guaranteed that No One would experience the fun.
I don’t know if they were understaffed or just incredibly lazy, but we spent 10 minutes walking through a maze of old farm equipment and mannequins (sooo scary), without any interaction from actors. When we Did see an actor, more than half the time they were literally just standing there. Literally… standing there.
The only thing «frightening» about this place is the price. Serious disappointment.

This was an AWESOME haunted house. We bought the imitate pass. $ 47 a person. This haunted house is pretty much all outside. The second haunted house was neat but mostly smoke, fog. Still a great set up. We even paid the $ 7 to do the 25ft drop thing. It was awesome. Will né back next year. the only things that sucked was we didnt get to get our pictures taken with our pass and they didn’t really space people out very well. We kept getting stuck behind some very obnoxious girls. the ones that scream at every little thing. Better spacing would make this place my number one. But we will definitely be back next year.

Not scary. HUGE disappointment. It was very obvious that it was under staffed, maybe because it was during the week, but that’s still no excuse. Don’t go, unless you want to waste $ 25 dollars.

By far the best haunted house I have ever been too. I bring my employees here every year and it’s always a great time. This last year my team and I also did zombi paintball, this was killer and luckily we all got out alive! Thanks for the haunt, you guy rock, see you next year!

Frightmare continues to impress me year after year! Their scenery and setting is one of a kind. This is definitely not your typical warehouse style haunt — the outdoor setting transports you through a truly terrifying journey, making you forget that you are just blocks outside of the bustling city. The actors are always on top of their game, never failing to creep you out around every twist and turn. The length of the haunted house is also deceiving — right when you feel as though you should be nearing the end, you venture through an old barn and continue on your way. I felt like it took an hour to complete! Not to mention, once you have reached the end, your sense of relief is squashed when you realize you are about to make your way through the clown house — The House of Darkness! Definitely worth the price and wait… although the VIP line is the way to go! Every year, they have new entertainment for people waiting in line and the DJ this year is killer! He has so much energy, the two hour wait wasn’t so bad :)

Was this place worth the 25 bucks to go? In a word, no. I feel like they’ve been around forever, allegedly since 1983, which I commend them for, however, I just don’t feel like it was as good as the 13^th floor. We went to 13^th floor immediately after Frightmare and found it to be more engaging and fun. To be fair, 13^th floor was 2 dollars more expensive, however, I felt like it was a much bigger (more professional) experience and a lot more for your money. That being said, probably wouldn’t do this haunted house again, perhaps if the price point were closer to how I felt it’s value was, I would return, but certainly not for 25 bucks (again).

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to Frightmare, but it’s probably my favorite haunted house. We’ve tried nearly all of the top rated in the Denver area and this one is still one of my favorites. I don’t get as scared anymore but we always have a blast, some good startling screams and a lot of laughing. There are some that I’ve been to that are a little more creative and have some cool structural features — like 13^th floor and Field of Corpses, which are two other favorites — but Frightmare is always good, and I like that it’s almost entirely outside. It has a creepy roughness that feels more authentic. If you aren’t frightened relatively easily I’m not sure that any of Denver’s popular haunted houses will scare you. So if that’s the case, bring easily frightened friends and laugh at their expense. And just enjoy all the creative effort and hard work that goes into putting on this kind of show.

Soooooooooo great! Definitely the best I’ve ever been to. Lots of great actors, great setups, lots of themes, and really long. Maybe a bit scary for young kids. But so fun. Actors interactive but don’t touch you. Worth the drive and cost! Definitely would do it again! Trust me, this is the one to go to.

This was the worst haunted house I have ever been to. I bought vip tickets and the wait was still super long. I can’t imagine how long the general admission people had to wait. The actors were terrible and there were alot of walking and seeing nothing. I honestly was bored and very disappointed.

Everything about this place is awesome! The best haunted house I’ve been to in years! As someone who has worked as an actor in a haunted house, I can sometimes be difficult to scare. However, Frightmare had us screaming (and literally running) the whole way through. Without a chainsaw in sight, Frightmare managed to freak us all out into complete submission. Fantastic props, scenery, and actors. The «moss room» and «moss people» were definitely the highlight this year for me. Just wow!

Frightmare is a double haunted house off of an off street in Westminster. The Frightmare experience consists of two haunted houses. Since this was my first year here I am not sure if they change the scenarios every year or not.
One haunted house has the concept of a haunted mining town. The set up is really cool and there are parts that are indeed genuinely creepy. The actors do a pretty good job of scaring you by coming out of their cubby holes and breathing down your neck or standing so still you don’t notice them.
I won’t go into detail as to what I saw here so I don’t spoil the experience should any one want to go.
The second haunted house seemed much shorter than the first one. This was set up as a circus gone bad with scary looking clowns lurking in the corners.
Both haunted houses were a lot of fun but both were confusing to get around in at various points. I was glad someone else was in the lead because at some points I had no idea where to go. Being disoriented in a haunted house is of course the point in going through one but I have been to plenty where the pathway was more clearly marked and more helpful. It might not seem like a big deal but when someone jumps out at you with a chainsaw then you want to get away from them ASAP!
Often times besides being disoriented there was parts in the haunted houses, especially the second one when you are not really on sure footing. It is alarming at first but take your time so you don’t crash and burn in the haunted house!
Another precaution with going to Frightmare is be sure you tuck in your phones and wallets securely because lots of people lose their belongings in this place. There are several instances when you have to stoop over and one where you crawl so keep important belongings tucked away safe and have fun!
Frightmare was the second haunted house I have been to this year and I have the high hopes of knocking two more out by the end of the holiday! Halloween is indeed MY holiday and I have the intention of owning it every year! When you go to these places though, heed what the disclaimers say. The people who run these places are not out to ruin your life by telling you to follow the rules.
Due to many other complications this year I did not do my own haunted house which I love to do so I go to other peoples haunted houses! Happy Halloween!
P. S. At one instance through here was a man playing with real cockroaches! I was like, «Whoah! I signed no waiver for you to throw that thing at me!“He didn’t but that got me to thinking if there are really any haunted houses where you actually DO sign a waiver to have real creepy crawlies thrown at you. Many haunted houses have the hype that you have to sign a waiver but don’t when you get there and are your standard haunted houses. The 13^th Floor is just such a place. I think they are a chain because they have several locations in Colorado but the one I went to by Denver Coliseum had the waiver hype but in the end was not a waiver signing haunted house. Any of my readers that know of a bonafide waiver haunted house, I would like to know about it! Not too sure I would go but I just want to know if they exist. I want to hear real experiences though and not hear hype. It is not valid saying my friend was here and got a real spider on her. Sorry, don’t believe it. Because that is what I heard about the 13^th Floor too!

I bought a groupon for VIP entry into the two haunted houses on the Frightmare Compound for two. It was a great deal. But their handling of the groupon was not well thought out. First they don’t accept the mobile groupon at the door, so the point of VIP (not waiting in line) was lost because I didn’t print mine out, so we had to wait in line to get an actual ticket. Second, the VIP line to get into the haunted house was as long, if not longer, than the general admission line. So it was kind of pointless to get a VIP pass in the first place. And it was a bit annoying. BUT once inside, it was fantastic. I screamed pretty much the whole way through. They had great strategically placed folks all over. They were a little handsy and I definitely was touched multiple times by some of the monsters working in the craziness. But i was scared and it was good. I would recommend it.

As far as haunted houses go I think this one was done pretty well. You wind through a house and then into a corn field and then on to a barn. Even still after that there was a second building to go through. The monster would sometimes chat with you telling stories about the room you were going to or they would follow right behind making it not safe to be in the front or the back! If you are lucky like me they will continuously smell you. OK maybe that doesn’t make me lucky. Towards the end we did catch up with the group ahead of us and that kind of stunk because then you knew when the scares were coming. The rooms were designed well with animated objects to distract you so someone could pop out and scare you. In the corn fields there are scarecrows and such that you aren’t quite sure if they are real people or not but we thankfully we didn’t run in to any Malachi’s. I did scream out loud several times throughout the course of it. As for the last building you go in to that is clown theme, that was kind of weak but all the things before it made up for that. All and I think this was well worth it and certainly one of the better haunted houses I’ve been too, just make sure to check your shoes for wood chips when you leave.

There’s haunted houses out to get a quick buck, and then there’s haunted houses that work really hard to scare the crap out of you. Frightmare, one of CO’s longest running houses– was and still is passionate about scaring your socks off, so you can get every terrifying moment – and forget you ever even paid for it.
