I came here with my sister Sat. night after we left the Azn night market in Little Saigon. I was happy to hear they do not cook with MSG which causes cancer… if you haven’t done your research. I ordered the Pork Udon soup which camw with Pork feet, pork blood, pork meat pieces and fried shallots and green onion for garnish I also put an order for quail eggs. Overall, the flavor was on point very creamy and flavorful. I am looking forward to stopping by again in the future and get the Lobster Udon next time… you don’t find many places that only specialize in udon so this place is a must stop by… =) They have so many soups to choose from and rice dishes…

The broth is a little on the slimy side but it’s pretty good. I’ve heard bad things about this place but I actually enjoy their Banh canh.

Not sure why this place ha 2 ½ stars. It’s a noodle house but I had the broken rice with grilled pork and it was very good. Quick service and friendly as well. Next time I’ll be trying what they’re know for which are their noodles

My friend was in the mood for something soupy, so we decided to try one of their udon noodle soups at this restaurant. They have two pages of different toppings and the soups are named after some of the provinces in Vietnam, which is pretty cool. They even have lobster here, but those bowls were pretty expensive! I decided to get the Banh canh hue with thick soup, which comes with shrimp balls and crab meat. My friends ordered the Banh canh long xuyen and the Banh canh mien Tay with the thick soup and spring rolls. I added a lot of peppers and lemon in my soup and it was good, but kind of slimey. I tried the other toppings my friend had in her soup and hers was okay. Overall the soups weren’t bad, and you get a pretty big bowl for the price.

OMG, I can’t believe this place. This place is my favorite & today was VERYVERYVERY disappointing! I found a small hair in my soup & told the lady, but she asked me «are you sure it wasn’t your hair?» Are you serious? My hair is long and red & that piece of hair was black & tiny. I can’t believe she had the audacity to ask me such thing. I was being very understanding & just asked her nicely to give me a new soup. Don’t think I like this place anymore :(

Best banh canh place I have ever been to. The place is clean and service is nice. I usually don’t like the food taste in south CA since I am from N. CA. The food in this area usually tastes too strong but this place food is perfectly fine and cheap compare to the Bay Area.

I wanted to start off 2016 with a positive review, however, when I saw this check in reminder, I had to share my horrible experience. From time to time, I find myself at other facilities for work, thanks to my role and my association with different applications and systems. Yes, I’m a propeller head for those who didn’t know. The corporate headquarters is located in Fountain Valley which I especially like because it allows me to have lunch at places that would normally be too far from where I’m based(Long Beach). So, a coworker and I ended up here because I hadn’t been here and the place was hopping. We walked in and were immediately seated. However, about twenty minutes later, we walked out just as quickly as we had come in. After we were seated, no one gave us the time of day. Four parties came in after us, one take out and three, to dine in. They were all served before us. I mentioned earlier, that the place was hopping — so normally, I would understand if and or when service was a little slow but I don’t appreciate being ignored and bypassed even to have the table next to us seated and their order taken before ours; let alone two more tables and a carry out customer. When my coworker and I got up to leave, I guess the staff is used to that because no one made any attempts to speak with us or even offer an apology. It’s not a big deal to me though as there are many other restaurants in the area. I’d say that this place lost a customer for life but I was never a customer. All I did was sit in their establishment for about twenty minutes.

The first time I came here was with my mother & I LOVED it! Flavor was very DELICIOUS! My mom is an amazing cook so when she chooses a restaurant, she never lets me down :) It was my first time ever eating this type of Vietnamese Thick Broth Udon Noodle Soup & I highly recommend this type of hot pot for those who want to venture away from the usual Phở that we all know. I ordered soup #27 that had Crab, Shrimp & Scallop & all I have to say is MMMMGOOD! They ask if you want the broth thick or not & i recommend getting it thick to get the experience for this type of soup. The reason I’m docking a star is because the first time I came here I wanted to take a picture of the restaurant to post on Unilocal/Instagram & some older lady working there that sat us(guessing it was the owner) gave me a hard time about taking the photo. She said«please no pictures» :/umm ok? I guess she doesn’t want free advertisement? That’s ok. The girls that serve you were VERYSWEET. Unfortunately they don’t speak English well, so there may be a language barrier. If you’ve never been here & are craving a different kind of Vietnamese soup then give this place a chance :)

When they first opened I heard so many negative things about this place. So I never bothered trying this place out. Even though Banh canh is one of my favorite vietnamese dishes. This place I believe closed down temporarily for remodling. Once they re opened I finally decided to give them a try after my co worker convinced me this place serves one of the best Banh Canh. She was right! I’ve been back at least 5 times in the last month.

Came here with a group of 11. Seated immediately because the place was pretty dead on a Sat. night. Good bargain, considering you get a drink. Wish they had diet coke though. Settled for an iced coffee, which I save for breakfast the next day(glad it was in a to-go cup). My meal was the shredded pork. It was more of a thinly sliced pork. It was okay. But I really enjoyed the egg rolls. Kids seemed to like the noodle soup. And my husband’s soup with quail eggs was awesome!

Place is great. Food is actually good. So many types of banh canh aka viet udon. You can have your soup thick or thin. Free drink with each bowl, so how can u people complain about prices. Workers are nice. You just gotta understand the culture; not everyone is westernized with their customer service style.

Good service and good food at great prices and they don’t use MSG in their broth or ingredients. Free desserts too with each order. Come try the best Banh Canh cua and 3 mien are the house favorite here. Fast and friendly staff too. The restrooms are always well maintained here.

The restaurant looks old on the outside but remodeled on the inside. The restaurant was practically empty and we were seated immediately. Free drink or dessert with your meal– soda, coconut dessert, Vietnamese coffee, etc. I ordered the giant prawn and seafood banh canh(Vietnamese udon) in thick broth. The giant prawn was fresh and delicious! The udon soup was flavorful and it was such a huge portion. Someone else got the lobster, scallop, crab meat, and fish ball banh canh and it was enormous! It came in a huge pot and was $ 30 compared to the regular banh canh that was around $ 10. The soup broth was so much more flavorful and sweet compared to the regular banh canh. The waitress brought over tons of napkins, utensils, shell cracker, etc. Overall it was delicious and I would come back.

The banh canh selection was overwhelming! 0.0 Even I didn’t know we have that much of them haha. I got the Saigon one, since I’m from there. It’s pretty good~ not ohmygosh good but good. Place was packed! -.- kinda crowded inside. The price to me is a little bit high~ so no star for that. But I guess I would return if I was in the craving for banh canh :)

Just noticed there were two pages for this business, so this is copied from their other page: I’ve only ever had banh canh with thick broth at Brodard so I might not be the best judge but all I can say is this is so much better. I’ve only gone when it’s slow so I can’t say much for their service during a rush, but so far, everyone’s been extremely nice and accommodating. I never have high expectations for service at Vietnamese restaurants(and neither should you) so I’m never disappointed! I need variety, so my go to is the Banh Canh 3 Mien with thick broth(you can choose which type of broth you want), which comes with pork, crab, squid paste, and a ginormous prawn. This is more than enough to fill me up! In terms of pricing, you’re looking at $ 7+ per bowl, more if you want seafood. Yes, it is a bit more expensive than other Vietnamese spots, but people forget that seafood is NOTCHEAP(prawns and crab). If $ 9 is too expensive for you, then either 1) order something without seafood(like chicken, which is only ~$ 6.50, or 2) go eat something else like com tam or phở, which has cheap ingredients, hence cheaper to order. 5 stars from me!(affordable, tastes bomb, decent service, fills me up, and free che dessert)

I thought the name was funny and that’s what caught my attention. Food was good, not great. Poor service, but that’s typical at a vietnamese restaurant. All four people in my party got the #1 with a side order of quail eggs. A small bowl is still really big so go with the small. The employees seem miserable and unorganized. We ordered one soup to-go and they brought out two to-go orders. Overall, I would come back to buy take-out but not dine-in.

Open again under new management. Supposedly.(I still saw the same lady who took my order and lied to me from my first review). We got the one that you can share between two people which is like $ 15 ish. Also, the promotion that is currently going on is free drinks. Apparently they had none of the drinks I wanted. I suppose that’s why it’s free…

hey Unilocal, this place has re-opened. Too bad. It should’ve stayed closed, the food is disgusting and the service is worse. The table we were seated at was NOT cleaned. The hostess made us sit at the dirty table anyway. She put paper placemats down on the wet and sticky table and then wiped a rag around the placemats. And there was a lime on the ground. We ordered. The food came. They gave my mom the Banh Canh Da Nang when she ordered the Banh Canh Saigon. We notified the waitress, who came back and checked her notepad and said«Oh. I heard Da Nang.» and my mom was like«Well I ordered the Saigon…» and the waitress said«oh sorry» and walked away. We were already eating so my mom decided to just eat the order she was given too. All over the menu, it says«NOMSG! NOBOTNGHOT!» Well when I tasted my banh canh, it was salty and I could definitely taste the MSG! It made me sooo thirsty! None of us enjoyed the food. Will never return! Wish I could put 0 stars! So nasty! We all went to McDonald’s after this!

Not too sure what to make of this place and the food, as it was my first time trying banh canh, aka Vietnamese udon. I got the #1, which is banh canh 3 mien(2 fresh water prawns, crab meat, deboned pork leg) which was $ 9.95. I have to say, while I found the soup and noodles pretty bland, the 2HUGE prawns and the deboned pork leg were quite delicious. They pretty much saved this dish. Not sure if I would try this again, although I probably didn’t even eat it properly; they have some sauces here I couldn’t really figure out what to do with. Another annoying thing was that there were 3 girls working here and none of them seemed to speak English or understand what I was saying…

Banh Canh Que Em and Que Anh has been mentally bookmarked the past month. Food Porn is the sole reason why I came here for dinner with the family. The photos that some Unilocalers took enticed me to want the bowl of Vietnamese Udon with Giant Prawn. After deciding to come here for dinner, the reviews almost scared me away. After realizing that I am Chinese and having been trained to expect bad service, I figured I had nothing to lose. The family and I arrived a little past 6PM on a Saturday night. We were quickly seated and given menus. I had no idea which of the menu items was the bowl of noodles that I desired. The waitress came minutes later to take our order. After realizing that we had blank stares on our faces and couldn’t speak or understand Vietnamese, the waitress used her best broken English to tell us that #1 and #28 were their most popular items. We listened to her and waited for our surprise special. After a few minutes the noodles were presented to us. There it was! The noodles with the giant prawn that I had been lusting over was now in my face. I couldn’t wait to get the noodles into my mouth. It was something that I have wanted the past month after all the Unilocal photos. But, I couldn’t bite into the juicy hot noodles yet. I had to take photos of my food first. After taking food photo’s it was time to eat. My wife ordered the #28 with a thin soup. It came with crab, shrimp balls, squid paste, and scallops. We all liked their noodle soup here. The soup was very tasty. The soup came with a generous amount of crab. I liked that the food that came out looked just like the photos that I have seen of this place. One of the few things that we didn’t like was that the portion was not jumbo sized. If we were very hungry, I think we would have had to order 3 bowls of their noodles. After dinner, I went up to pay the cashier. Missing was the rude, fat woman that other Unilocalers have complained about. In her place was a young woman who spoke perfect English. She thanked me for coming and offered suggestions as to what I should order next time I come here. Overall, even though the waitresses didn’t speak English too well, my family liked this place. My daughter liked it so much that she finished all the noodles and soup in her bowl. Yes, food porn enticed me to come here. I look forward to coming here again to satisfy my foodie desires.

Meek! Don’t kill me Unilocalers but I received no bad service here. I may be the lone Unilocaler giving 4 stars but I stand by it. For the first time, I came on a Thursday night around 8 and got seated right away. We sat down, got menus, and was able to order with no issues. We even asked the young female waitress which banh canh she thought was better and she kindly explained. Another female waitress brought out che dau hoa sen, complimentary dessert. Yes, she was a little ahead of the game but hey, this is a viet restaurant, what do you expect? The waters came and about 10 minutes later our food came. I had banh canh with the huge prawns. The bowl was a good size for the price and decent. Not the best but better than okay. The banh canh deserves a solid 3.5 stars but I rounded up to 4 stars since the service was nice, ambiance, live music, and free desserts. I also like the idea of having all the girls wear ao ba ba, traditional viet clothing. Would I go again? Definitely, if I have a hankering for some banh canh. Almost forgot to mention they have Live music! It was an old dude singing french songs but hey, it was the first time I’ve ever seen such a thing at a viet restaurant.
