5 Star Firearm Training

If you are thinking about taking a Carry Conceal Weapon Class, 5 Star Firearm Training is the best choice. These certified owners/​instructors, Michael and Paul, are very knowledgeable, professional, and enjoyable. I was amazed at how successfully they taught me to defend myself, a woman, with information like: where to go, what to do, and how to do it when you’re scared. They were so willing to provide accurate information about procedures and the law. That is hard to find. The comprehensive training I received was more than I ever expected. Definitely worth telling my friends about!

If you’re a civilian with no military or law enforcement background and want to get a CCW permit in Illinois, there is no way around it: you need to take a sixteen hour class. And no, there is absolutely no possible way all sixteen hours can be fun and exciting. Of course, a bad instructor could make those sixteen hours feel like sixteen days, but a good one, while still feeling like sixteen hours, could make good use of your time turning you into a responsible and safe citizen if and when you’re ready to carry. The latter was my experience with Five Star.
There are quite a few options out there for the Illinois CCW class. We’ve all seen those ads in the paper offering it for as little as $ 100, but if you’re reading this, chances are you’re looking for quality over cost. The instructors Mike and Paul are police officers and strong supporters of the second amendment who genuinely want you to responsibly protect yourself. They also have one hell of a sense of humor. There’s a lot of material they’re required by law to go over with the class, but they do it in the least tedious way possible and they’re very cool about answering any and all questions you may have.
I had a pretty good understanding of what I was legally allowed to do with a concealed carry permit before I came to this class, but they took the time to tell while you legally *could* do certain things, they may not be a good idea. This was my favorite part of the class. For example: using those new «zombie rounds» in your concealed carry gun. Sure, they’re legal and no different than any other critical defense rounds. But should you have to go to court for shooting someone in self defense, you can bet that the prosecution will use those against you to try and make you look like a murderer («He didn’t just kill him; he killed him with ZOMBIE KILLER BULLETS!»). It’ll make proving your innocence just a little bit harder. The class was full of little tips like that; many of which I had never given much thought until now.
Don’t let the sixteen hours thing scare you away. It’s not going to be one long unbroken lecture. You will take a few breaks at reasonable intervals. You’ll also watch videos from the news of people using firearms in self defense and discuss what the person did correctly and/​or incorrectly with the hope that you won’t make the same mistakes. So while it’s an entire day of sitting in a classroom, they put the effort into making good use of it. You’ll have a good time, and you’ll actually learn a thing or two.

I recently took the IL CCW class with 5 Star Firearm training and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. As a woman I was nervous to take this class and I don’t consider myself an expert in firearms, but Mike and Paul happily and thoroughly answered all of my questions. I highly recommend these guys!

Great instructors, great location, and a great opportunity for anyone who knows or doesn’t know anything about firearms. Taking this class increased my knowledge on safety, state rules, and most importantly, helped me achieve in getting my conceal carry in two states. If your a believer in personal safety, this is where you want to go.

I recently took the July 2014 class. I was a complete novice to the Gun Laws and Gun Safety and Michael and Paulie were very knowledgeable and professional throughout the whole class. I was impressed on how they were able to break everything down to Laymen’s terms for a beginner like myself. I highly recommend Paulie and MIchael to anyone looking to increase their gun safety awareness.

Great class! For anyone interested in obtaining their Illinois concealed carry license, this is the place to go. The instructors are very knowledgeable and friendly.
I took this class with my wife, because both of us were interested in obtaining our concealed carry licenses. We had very little experience with guns prior to taking this class. The small class size and knowledgable instructors made us feel very comfortable. I would strongly recommend that anyone interested in obtaining their concealed carry license check these guys out.
