«What if somebody DIED in those clothes?»
Well. What are the chances of that? Someone was about to die – and they were wearing ALL THE CLOTHES that they own ?! (I strongly believe that 90% of used clothing goes from dresser drawer to thrift store. People do spring cleaning that way. I doubt people go through they clothes hamper and think about what to donate.)
Most thrift store donations come from what did NOT sell at a garage sale — so you have that too.
And what about bed bugs ?! Bed bugs are visible. Do you SEE bed bugs on what you are buying? Also notate things that bed bugs do not live in– say like a used bowling ball.
Also bed bugs need certain specific hosts and circumstances to live well and/​or breed. They cannot live in high heat OR freezing cold. Did you just buy a sweater and suspect bed bugs? Take down to the local laundromat and pop it in the dryer on high for 10 minutes. It will cost you a quarter. In the winter — I place all my thrift store clothes in a plastic bag, seal it, and toss it in the trunk for a few days (especially during below zero weather – there is NO WAY a bed bug will survive that!). Then I throughly wash everything. Still skeeved out? Take all your thrift store clothes– place them in a bag and just do the entire wash at the laundromat.

I have a love/​hate relationship with all modern day «big box» thrift chains. The prices can be insane. But an insane price on a pair of Levi’s in a thrift is $ 9.99. That’s still 1/3’rd the original price new from the store. So you really can’t lose.
I mean why pay $ 24.00, $ 34.00 or $ 44.00 for something at Marshall’s like a pair of jeans — when the thrifts are FULL of them for a fraction of the price. That’s just one example.
My real issue is the uninformed and haphazardly thoughtlessness on GARBAGE like broken items that should just be thrown away. The «collectibles» shelves at UNIQUE are a joke! IF AN OLD BEATLES RECORD IS ALL SCRATCHED UP… NOBODY WILL BUY IT ! Not even for $ 5.00, So UNIQUE puts $ 40.00 on it! It makes them look bad. And the shitty «costume jewelry» in glass cases like it’s King Tut’s treasure is laughable !
Anyway, I will continue to shop there buy oh so carefully!

I had been going to this Unique Thrift Shop for some time. Tonight, Saturday, February 19, 2016, I stopped by there late as I was coming from Ikea. I bought about $ 47 worth of goodies; nice stuff. I was the last person leaving the store and stopped at the ladies room prior to going back home as it was a long trip back. The ladies room was awful. There was excrement all over the toilet seat in one of the rooms. It smelled awful. I put my bag on the door and forgot to retrieve it as the smell was so awful, all I could think about was getting out of there. As soon as I arrived back home, I called the store and a young woman answered and told her to take a look to see if she saw my bag. She returned to the phone and told me that the bag was not there and that no one saw the bag. I asked her who cleans the ladies room. She said the cashiers and that no one saw the bag. THAT’S A BALD FACE LIE. I was the last person to leave the store and I can’t believe these people who get first choice of what comes in would steal and have their store sullied. I WILL DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK THERE AND TALKING WITH THE MANAGER ON MONDAY. I’m taking a day off just to do that. What makes it worse for me is that these young women would go to hell for $ 47.
Just be careful with your things when you pay for it. THEY WILL STEAL IT IF YOU DON’T KEEP YOUR EYES ON IT.

This place was blahh… I got the locations mixed up & instead I ended up here. The look of disappointment on my face… Ok anyways, I came here & found nothing spectacular. I only managed to get a lot of reading books for my daughter. At very good prices too. That’s the only plus about this place. Don’t think I’ll be going back. Was worth a try though.

This place is hit or miss. Not treasures today but a few odd finds. The store is well organized. They always seem to be busy which is good. Items are constantly being put out on the floor.
I find that they are a little more expensive than some other Long Island thrift stores but the selection is greater.
All in all worth checking out. They offer a 25% discount on Mondays.

I want to like this thrift store. I really do. I come here a lot and find great stuff but… the prices. are. ridiculous. Way overpriced. And apparently they just raised their prices even more on certain things, major turn off, you guys! Children’s books two weeks ago were .69 and now they are 1.49! At a thrift store! Nope, I’ll be going elsewhere now.

Used to be great, now not only do you not get the discount if you don’t use their app, you are treated poorly if you complaint about this fact and if you call to see what options their customers are given… terrible

The store is ok at best. You could find some treasure, or you could find nothing.

As usual hit or miss. Still very popular and crowded most of the time. Harder to find a real bargain. Last time I was there most of the items were kind of grungy and kind of junky… well its a thrift store what do you expect. The nicer items are behind the counter. Years ago I would come across nice records now they are all picked through and just trash.

It’s a so so store, a lot of cheap dresses etc with the occasional treasure. Some things are bizarrely overpriced.
The store is Ok, my problem is with some of the clients. I was shopping, minding my business and some guy cat called me. Not cool. It’s a big store so I guess the employees can’t keep an eye on everyone.
There’s much better thrift stores out there. I won’t be back.

The store is a mess, they don’t bother cleaning any of the items they shelves. They just slap the price tag on and sell it as is. Occasionally you will find an interesting item at a great price. I mainly come here to get some vintage items and household things. I also collect shot glasses and beer mugs and they do occasionally have some imported ones that are nice and they sell them in bunches for a few dollars. I’ve also purchased a leather purse here that was pretty much new and flawless but I would steer clear of purchasing any clothing and I’m also hesitant about the shoes unless they are new. You never know what kind of issues the previous owners have and as I said before they don’t clean the items.
The unique on Hempstead Turnpike is way bigger than this one but this one has better quality items. The best time to go is on a Monday when everything is an additional 25% off if you want to save but I notice they put out nicer items on non discount days. I picked up a nice painting here last Monday.
Many of the employees don’t speak English very well but they understand enough to possibly assist or will call someone else to help you. Some of the girls restocking the shelves just slam things down carelessly thus resulting in damaged items. They also sometimes make the shopper feel like they are inconveniencing them but browsing and purchasing the items. One of the girls pushed her merchandise cart into me and didn’t bother to apologize and just looked at me with this stank face. Luckily it’s only one or two bad apples. I’ve never had a problem with any of the cashiers though, they are usually nice. It’s too bad they don’t also buy or trade items back from customers. I’d have a ton of stuff I could unload at this place.
I also think that it’s ridiculous that they sell just the retail boxes for things without the actual items inside. I mean like… who the hell would buy that, and for what?
I’ll end this review with some advice that I simply cannot stress enough… EXAMINE YOUR ITEMS CAREFULLY! There are no refunds. Once you pay it’s game over! Even if you have not left the store yet it’s done. No takesy backsies, got it? If you are in an area of the store where there isn’t proper lighting head to a better lit area and check for any damage, chips, holes, stains, etc. If you have time, try your items on. Even if the line is long, better to be sure than waste money. Don’t forget to wash, or disinfect your items when you get home and wash your hands soon as you get out of the store. At the risk of sounding like a germophobe you never know where some of those items have been!

I went here today it was a mad house fifty percent off betime i got there most of the stuff was gone. Great prices when they do half off. Bought some curtains, videos and a trampoline. Now they want u to down load a the app u get five dollars back. Without paying for anything. Very friendly workers n customers. Lots of stuff for discounted prices.

I like to think of myself as a savvy shopper but I’d never been to a thrift shop so I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve been on a DIY rampage lately & was looking for 2 nightstands to fix up. I went to the home appliances section and found the most random objects, from empty VHS cases to raised toilet seats. I wasn’t convinced by anything so I decided to look through the racks of other to see what I could find.
To really get the best out of this experience, you’ll need to get over the fact that almost 95% of the items here, including bras, have been used. But if you dig deep enough, you may just find something! I walked out with a couple of brand new blazers and shirts (inc. a gorgeous silk button down from United colors of Benetton) for just $ 38 after 50% discount & $ 5 for being a first time guest. I don’t know if I’ll ever come back but at least I can say I walked out as a happy camper :)

I would love to know who prices the items because it’s an absolute joke. Obviously fake terribly made Gucci sneakers for $ 90? Uggs for one price and the same pair sitting right next to them in a different color for double the price? Then on discount days the items are purposely marked up to give the 25% off; it’s very obvious. not to mention the staff is very rude. I used to shop here all the time, now not so much anymore with their inflated prices.

Always something good in stock if you’re willing to dig, it’s amazing what some people donate. Sometimes the pricing makes no sense like I found a brooch with missing rhinestones for $ 20.00 one time while there was a brand new sweater for $ 4.99. Although turnover is fast so it can be hit or miss.

One of my favorite spots to thrift on Long Island. Staff is super friendly and store is usually well organized. They have a large amount of sale days too, on top of their generally low prices. They do sometimes mark up shoes and bags to ridiculous prices. I won’t pay 90.00 for a used Michael Kors bag, for example… but otherwise a great spot.

MyUnique is much more than just a regular thrift store. I don’t know what it is but luckily I always seem to find what I need, when I need it here. Once I needed a card table, came in and found one for $ 7.99. Another time, I was looking for a scanner… another $ 7.99 win. This time I was actually looking for cowboy boots and I found a pair, in my size, just like new for $ 25!
There are items here that are outdated and unworthy of being for sale but this store is huge. The majority of the items are useful and in great condition. I have seen everything under the sun here, except food. I repeat: EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOOD. The staff try their best to keep things organized and categorized and it’s much appreciated and helpful to the shopping experience. There’s a fitting room to try on clothes and they’ll plug in your electronic device for you to make certain it works before you buy it. There are no returns. All sales are final.

This place has some great oddities I think I spent 3 plus hours in this place. Huge selection of books, movies, jewelry, Xmas trees and Xmas decorations, on one floor and then the have a basement with clothing, shoes, handbags, home goods. The store is huge the selection is great, the staff is pleasant, prices are great, and they have fitting rooms. Enjoyed my time there will go again.

This is perhaps one of the largest thrift stores I have been to in the NY /​Long island area.
It is pretty spacious, everything is laid out cleanly — no thrft store smell.
I was really surprised at how much used furniture there was. Most of it consisted of TV stands, tables and dressers — all reasonably priced (almost all were under $ 30). They also had quite a few sewing machine tables with the sewing machines still in them. Lots of dining chairs as well.
We found a few things that we ended up buying, but like any thrift store — what you find depends on the day. Will be back to check this store out again!

I’ve recently jumped onto the thrift store bandwagon, and was looking for some good thrifting places on Long Island. I stumbled upon Unique Thrift and fell in love!
The clothing section is huge and takes up about half the store. If you remember National Liquidators on Old Country Road, this is where Unique is located now. So the store is quite huge. There are a lot of misses in the store, but if you sift through the racks long enough, you are bound to find a few items that peak your interest. I found a cute Ann Taylor dress for 6 dollars, and some Spanish flamenco dancer shoes for 5. I’ve also gone quite frequently within a week, and found that the inventory seems to have a high turnover.
I didn’t go to the second half of the store until my last visit, and I was really surprised. There are a lot of broken toys, old glasses, old cups, and electronics, so I never needed to look around, but I realized that there is a whole book wall in the second half of the store. There are a lot of great finds and all the softcover books are less than 2 dollars, and hardcover I believe are around 3 – 5 dollars. Lots of the books are John Grisham or Danielle Steele, but there are also some Jane Austens and other critically acclaimed books. I left the store with an armload of books.
There are also DVD, VHS, CD, stacks next to each cash register, and there are cool oldies there. These are also cheap as well. Just make sure that the actual item is inside the case. There are a lot of missing things in these piles.

So happy I found this place! Thrift stores on LI are few and far between in my experience, so Unique is definitely a gem.
As with any other store it can be hit or miss. Going often is key. I mostly buy housewares, they have great vintage stuff. Once in a while you see things overpriced but for the most part their pricing is fair.
Some highlights: glassware, picture frames, servingware, handbags, kids stuff, and furniture.
If you are looking for furniture they have some amazing solid mid-​century pieces for cheap. Wardrobes, dressers, nightstands, they usually just need some sanding and paint or stain. Again, you must go often because they get snapped up quickly.
Certain things are 50% off on mondays. I give the staff 5 stars, they are always organizing things and re-​stocking.
