Mall At the Source

Not sure how this place is still open and how they have not torn it down already. Its a ghost town. Ever since Fortunoff went under, this mall has gone downhill quickly. Unless another anchor store can move in, this mall has no chance and should just throw in the towel to recover from their loses.

what happened? its a ghost town. we left after 5 minutes. listen, consumerism is depressing enough, i dont need an abandoned mall!

I went in here and got confused almost wondering to myself IS THIS REALLY A MALL??? It was so dead it was kinda creepy. Felt like I was in a horror film. There isn’t much to say about this place except it was just an utter waste of time. I’d rather play in traffic than ever think about coming back here again.

This place is a ghost town. There was a furniture store open and PF Changs, which is fake Chinese food. Nothing to see here.

I went to this mall frequently back then… Going to Sbarro’s and Subway all the time… but ever since Fortunoff, Steveve and Barry’s and Circuit City closed, this mall is now a piece of SHIT. All that’s in the food court is Little Tokyo. Im not even sure if GRILLE or Wok Express is still in buisness. There are a SURPLUS OF STORES CLOSED. the only thing supporting this mall is Cheesecake Factory, P. F Changs, and Dave and Busters. (I’m not sure about Lord and Taylors and Fortunoff Backyard Store.) if those three places close, that’ll be a gunshot to this mall… I still rate 5 stars.

After reading some of the reviews points of closing stores and vacant space and experiencing much of the same myself in times past, I can say that changes have occured within The Source.
There was a refitting of infrastructure, paving the way for extremely higher end retailers IE: Louis Vutton.
The economy is stalling and will continue to do so unfortunatly, which eliminates the demand for middle to middle lower end retailers. As an example of higher demand for luxary brands, Masaratti, Bentley and BMW all had record breaking sales as did Tiffany & Co and Channel. The moneys out there, but not spread about like a decade prior.
These new stores are appointed like their 5^th avenue relatives, clothes and bags illuminated by fine lighting and additional pricey staging. While walking the lowly populated corridors, pricey cars are on display, gated off by velvet ropes. (Not the Cooper Mini mind you). Jaguar F Type, sticker price? $ 102,000 and its yours.
Yes, there are changes at The Source but whom its benefiting is certainly not the everyday average Joe consumer.

When did this happen? Was it the departure of Fortunoff? This Mall at the Source looks like a scene out of a bad movie. 95% of the stores are closed, they have all furniture, fixtures and random inventory by the doors and windows. The stores that are open go from Golf Galaxy to H&M to what I think is a 99 Cent Store that sells dresses and jewelry. The food court has a random Chinese place open and terrible excuse for a Grille. Of course there is still a 1.5−2 hour wait for Pf Changs and Cheesecake Factory but other than that — why is this Mall at the Source (1)open and (2) without businesses. The location is good, ample parking, etc.
Unless you have to be there — there is absolutely no reason to visit the inside of this Mall. You can access Cheesecake Factory, Golf Galazy, PF Changs and Dave & Busters from the outside.

Do not go here for anything but waiting an hour and 20 minutes to eat at either PF Chang’s or Cheesecake Factory. There are about 6 – 7 stores (including H&M, gymboree, a dollar store, carter’s, lord and Taylor outlet, famous footwear, dave & busters, and an old carousel) open in this huge decrepit mall, the rest are empty.
Unless you like sketchy corridors and the sound of your own footfalls you should really take your business elsewhere. It was honestly one of the creepiest experiences of my life.

The Source has seen better days. I can’t remember the last time I wanted to shop here. Other than a few restaurants and Dave & Busters, I think The Source needs a serious uplift. It is a big mall and it’s potential has been shaded especially being so close to the Roosevelt Field Mall and now the Westbury Galleria.
After Fortunoff closed a slew of other stores closed up shop too. I remember Steve & Barrys being one of my favorite stores that closed and left.
I’m not sure what stores The Source can get that aren’t somewhere in proximity but they ought to think of something. Maybe get a few outlet stores to compete with the Tanger Outlets further out East? That would be great.
The only reason I was here was to go to Dave & Busters.

Don’t waste your time! Very few stores, low lighting, annoying kiosks workers. Spend the few more minutes in the car and go to Roosevelt Field!

This mall is horrible for shopping, but perfect for me. I always stay at the Hilton Garden Inn across the street and there is a P.F. Chang’s and Cheesecake Factory.
Also, there are some outlet stores and a bowling alley, so it’s a good outlet for me after a long hard day on the road.

If you thought the Sunrise Mall was bad, this place makes it look like a palace.
This place is a shoppers nightmare. We walked in today to bring my aunt, from Israel, around to shop for our cousins. What a mistake. We must have been there for 2 minutes. We walked in, saw all of the abandoned store fronts, and walked out.
It probably costs more money to keep this place open, daily, than it makes in a year. Close this place down, for everyone’s sake.

Ghost town mall more like it, picking up to go at Pf Chang’s, tumbleweeds,

This place looks dead. The mall only brand name store is H&M and Cheesecake Factory.
Everyone is going down the road to the Gallery Mall with better new stores.

This is a mall that would be perfect for a zombie flick. It just gets more and more depressing each time I visit. The only redeeming factors (for me) is the typically empty H&M upstairs and the always-​crowded PF Changs downstairs. Everything else here is gone. Oh, there’s Dave & Buster’s as well, but I never really thought of that as part of the mall, but it is, so there’s that, too. Other stores that still seem to be open are David’s Bridal, Golf Galaxy, Cheesecake Factory, and that shoe place. I don’t know what they’re going to do, because this a large, mostly-​empty property, and I doubt these few open stores/​eateries are keeping it afloat. Oh well.

Unfortunately the past decade has not been kind to the Source Mall, although there are a few stand outs, the majority of the retailers here are the bland same old same old. When Fortunoff, which was an anchor store, left it was like the life was sucked out of this place. It certainly has lost the hustle and bustle feel that most malls in this area have. And while Roosevelt Field Mall feels like it’s about to burst at the seams with activity, the Source feels like it’s going to implode due to inactivity.
When you drive into the main parking garage, you will notice how unkempt the outside is, perhaps in order to keep costs down they’ve eliminated the grounds crew/​landscapers but in my opinion that was a bad decision. With overgrown bushes and weeds, the place looks like a scene from the Walking Dead.
Still I hope that the board of directors will straighten things since this place houses the Carousel and Train that my kids love to ride, also it is the location of the nearest Dave and Busters. And so I hope against the inevitable and try to take my kids to ride while they still can.

This is not The Source of All Evil for the Power of Three.
When this luxurious mall first opened in 1997 era with the biggest yet renowned retailer, Fortunoff, it was the primary target for all shoppers-​local and from the five boroughs. Albeit, only Fortunoff Backyard exist for luxurious outdoor furniture not mainstream Fortunoff. Unfortunately here now today in 2012, with the spiral downward direction of the economy, The Source is no longer the Vortex for shoppers. There were at least ten retail spaces empty upon our party of three’s entrance, half empty in 2012. Surely this economy has vanquished a lot of well known retailers for the Mall at the Source, owned and managed by Simon Property Group.
I would say the only good happening is still the timeless classic, The Cheesecake Factory, albeit no more long lines exist as per their glory days due to this ailing economy. There is a Sephora, Nordstrom Rack, H&M, Old Navy, Gap Outlet, David’s Bridal.

What a desolate mall! And strange ambiance.
Only 10 minutes away from Roosevelt Mall (without traffic), the Mall at the Source was barren, even for a Saturday afternoon.
Yet the parking lot was filled. We had trouble finding parking, so we drove around for ten minutes until someone left. When we walked in, the mall was barren. The most people per square foot was all concentrated inside the Cheesecake Factory.
This seems to be the discount only, ugly stepchild of malls in the vicinity. Yes– we walked around to find more than two spaces for rent, more than two stores halfway closed. It was slightly eerie to be in such a large space and see so few people. I could have meditated in the middle of the mall, no one would notice or walk into me.
Regardless of how horrible business must be for this mall, there are some places worth visiting. Off 5^th has discounted out of season clothing for 30−50% off, and Nordstrom Rack usually has some great deals if you have the patience to look. The Venetian Carousel is beautiful piece of restored art and if you have small children, there is plenty of space for them to run free. The first floor also has a train for kids to ride. My nephew had a grand olé time!
Would I come back? Only for the kids. Otherwise, I am going to Roosevelt Fields.

Yes, as the reviews all say, this mall is now at least half empty. But there are a few outlet and retail stores that make it worth going to. The H&M, Old Navy and Gap Outlet are the three best stores, better than any others in the area (of which there are quite a few). The fact that it’s almost empty means it’s also really quiet, so perfect for shoppers who don’t like the crowds of Roosevelt Field, Green Acres, etc. Even in the days leading up to Christmas it’s a comfortable place to shop with great deals and selection in the stores that remain. Cheesecake Factory helps round out a day of shopping. I wish Wilson’s Leather hadn’t closed, but this place still gets 5 stars from me. Sadly, I fear its days are numbered with the new Gallery at Westbury Plaza luxury mall opening up a few meters away.
Not for rich teens looking for an overpriced shopping spree or hanging out in the Apple store, but that’s why Roosevelt Field is there.

My friends dragged me here for some Black Friday shopping which was a blessing and a curse. First off, this mall is reaaaaally empty. Half the stores were closed and there were barely any people walking around. That does mean shorter lines and more stuff for me! Muahahahahahaa!
The Source is a hybrid between outlet/​regular retail. The Off Saks, H&M, and GAP were legit the only 3 stores we hit up. Those and the sweet sweet sweet crêpe man outside of Zales/​Old Navy. I love him! His crepes are only $ 2 and contain Nutellaaa! Honestly he would probably be the only reason I would ever return here. :)
