First off.
loves to jack up their price by a dollar or two compared to other stores so when you use their coupons, its not really saving if 20% is 10% and 50% is 40%. I order here when Michael’s doesn’t have what i want. The other reason (s) this place gets such a 1 star review besides cheating customers with coupons is. Customer service. I wrote them an email 2 weeks ago to complain about a product they listed on their site as «in stock» but its not even in stock. I ordered a basket full of stuff just to meet the free shipping requirements just because i wanted that particular product just to find it «not in stock». Wasted my time and money ordering. No response, nothing to this day. Also. Expect long process time for your items. I swear they probably have 98 year old’s packaging your product because its so freaking slow. Shipping charges on ONE item is 2x’s the price of the item itself and it doesn’t even weigh that much, so wtf are you shipping? I don’t think i would be shopping here anymore. So many negatives.

MESSY!

I’m in love with this store even though I had to drive out to Westbury. However I was determined to get there to check it out for myself. There are no stores located in the five boroughs of New York.
The store is very spacious, clean and organized. I was able to locate everything that I needed without any help because of well informed aisle banners. Everything that you need for a particular craft is located in that aisle. You don’t have to run from one end of the store to another section in pursuit of items.
When you are ready to have your fabric cut, you have to take a ticket and wait for your number to show up on the screen. I actually like this idea because it prevents confusion about who was waiting first.
Jo Ann’s offers lots of discounts on fabrics. I wanted to just grab up everything but realistically that wasn’t going to happen lol. They offer so many different fabrics so you are surely bound to find something here. They also offer craft classes here and online for many different craft/​hobbies.
My favorite part about this store is that the cashier allowed me to use two coupons towards my purchase from the Shopular app on my phone. I was able to use one for 30% off my purchase and one for 40% off a single item… can someone scream SUPER SAVINGS! I will definitely be back real soon.

Just to echo everyone else’s feedback, the customer service here is atrocious. I drove all the way out here from Queens because on their site, it said they have this blue fleece fabric in stock. When I get there, I asked a lady where the fleece was and she waved her hands towards the back and mumbled something. So I find the fleece section and I don’t see the fabric I’m looking for. I asked someone else and they did the same thing (kid you not!). Then I pull up the site on my phone with the fabric that still says it’s in stock in the store and I asked the first lady to help me find it. All she could offer was, «it’s gotta be with the other fleece. where I told you it was before!» I left the store ASAP and ended up ordering it online. Not that the site is that much better b/​c it takes a whole week for a shipment to arrive. :(

This place deserves only one star! Why… everytime I go there its a terrible situation. I love their items and I think the store it’s very well supply but the customer service is a nightmare.
The first time my boyfriend asked to the register about some features of one product and she (sone weird indian woman) just pointing to the aisle. She was sooo rude and didn’t even listen to him.
The second time I gave $ 100 bill to the register and she told me that she couldn’t accept it because she doesn’t have any change.
I love Joann stores without employees. It’s very evident the lack of respect and knowledge to us the customers.

It, s a good thing I read the reviews on this store before my visit. Otherwise, I would have taken the employee behavior personally. I was interested in a fabric. Took it to the cutting station. There were 3 women working it. Only one was assisting a client. One was complaining about assigned to that station. The other just tried to look busy. I stood there with the fabric as they ignored me attempting to measure it. Since it seemed too narrows for my project I left. Later I asked someone stocking shelves about the bathroom. She answered my question but with attitude. She seemed to be bothered bathroom directions.
I left without making any purchase. No plans to ever return, ever. Manager of this store needs to retrain 5^th edition staff in the art of costumer service. In the meantime, I’ll stick with Mood in Manhattan.

The fabric is over priced (note: I shop in the garment district) however, if you don’t have time to look up and down for fabrics you could come here (out of convenience and if you get a really good coupon) they have a good decent amount of fabrics.
Costumer service: Today was the second time i have came to this store and on both occasions I can see some of the staffers have a problem with extra pigment in my skin. I was treated today very nasty. Sofia (hey girl) was totally rude to me. I watched her be extra sweet to a women and her daughter only to then turn look at me and give me the «the chick. what she want. I’ll ignore her until she is gone look». I walked off in hopes to find another associate and I said to Yvonne {who was fixing the carts) excuse me can you help me only for her to ignore me and walk on bye. Fine back to miss sofia only to be treated as if i was annoying her. she said to me «show me where it is. how am i suppose to know what you want by you pointing» she stops and waves her hand like Go”. I’m not desperate enough to allow myself to be mistreated for expensive fabric.
Corporate will be hearing from me and so will all my friends.

Sunday was the very first time in years that I had a good experience in this fabric store. Evelyn in the sewing machine area was so very nice and helpful. And there is a fuller staff working so questions can be answered and help given. Thanks for your improvements Jo-Ann’s.

Since my last review, I’ve returned in necessity and I am happy I did. I aimed to go to this store when they first open in the morning on Saturdays + Sundays (I can only go on the weekends due to work). Both visits have been pleasant and not nearly as hostile. I feel like I may have caught them on an off day with a possible sale going on that I was unaware of.
I have actually had enjoyable conversations with some of the fabric shearers and good (and patient) experiences with the cashiers. I do believe they may have hired a few new employees because there were a few that I had never seen there before. I’m happy they seem to care about correcting negative experiences/​complaints.
The selection itself is pretty good and the sale fabric section is always plentiful. I love to embroider and didn’t have much trouble picking what I wanted from that section. Overall, they have improved and I’m willing to commend them for it. Hoping this trend continues.

Not the friendliest service and definitely the worse organization.
This is the only Jo-​Ann retail store for quite some distance, so I finally succumbed to my weakness for all things craft and headed down to Jo-​Ann.
Super. Fail. The only reason they get stars is for existing and being open. But I’m not evem sure what good that does!
Their stock is ridiculously short– and this is a gross understatement. They literally had empty shelves that were randomly littered with crap. I’m really trying to be nice here.
I ran out of a few things but they had nothing in stock. Really, nothing. I ended up buying two packs of paper, which I could have gotten at the Other craft store, much closer to me. I drove 21 miles each way in the rain for something I could have gotten 5 minutes from home.
They were disorganized and messy and it really disgusted me how they can stay open in this condition. There were only 2 staff members and they were both behind the register.
Maybe I caught them on their worst day in history, a random weekend night.
But now, I swear to only go to Jo-​Ann in Paramus. Yes, New Jersey. That’s how awful my experience here was.

I can never just walk in and get exactly what I want and leave. I usually browse around and create projects for myself that I barely have the time for. Knowing that I do this you’d think I would have learned my lesson by now but NOOOOO…
I’m not much of a sewer but I could fix a hole if I needed to, so I don’t really get into the fabrics very much but I do like the baking supplies, gift bag supplies, stationary and storage items, and especially the jewelry making section. I must admit though that I think Michaels has a better selection in that department and most of their stores have a more modern feel whereas I think Joann’s attracts more of an old fashioned crowd. May be it’s just me.
When you walk in be sure to grab a store circular because there’s usually at least a 20% off coupon in there. You can also print one in advanced and bring it to the store.

I am in this store at least once a week. Service here is awful at best. All of the women at the cutting counter, with the exception of Donna don’t want to be bothered cutting fabric. Don’t even think about asking where something is. Because they will just tilt their head and say over there. I actually had to walk an 85 year old woman to a section to help her find pushpins because the woman at the cutting table was too busy doing nothing to help her. The checkout line always runs about 15 people deep and there is only one woman ringing usually Yvonne during the day. She is sweet. But the poor woman never has backup. I am there in the morning. Usually between 10 and 12:30. I can only imagine the disaster this store is on a weekend!

I like this place. I feel that it has improved positively since I started visiting it episodically a couple years ago. There was a while where I was driving into Suffolk county when I needed fabric on Long Island. But, the recent months of store changes seem to have improved things. Really the only downside is it’s in a part of Westbury where there’s not much around. Then again, there is the Checker’s across the street and… who doesn’t need a bonus burger with their project every now and again? What? I eat fast food while sewing. Don’t shoot the messenger. Anyway:

Positives:
–I saw some cool beads here
–The sewing notion aisle is fairly complete
–Unique seasonal items for your decorating needs.
–Gotta love the red tag fabrics

Negatives:
–Service here can be inconsistent. I’ve encountered both extremely helpful knowledgeable employees. And employees who acted annoyed when I asked if there might be more of a product in the back. «Everything we have is already out. Ugh.» There was an audible ugh. Um, hey, it was just a question girlie. I don’t work here. I don’t know when and how you restock.
–Checkout — Lots of registers, one person at them? Yesterday I waited for 20 minutes on the line. I wish I wasn’t counting but, there really wasn’t anything else to do. Maybe make some sort of policy for when cashiers should call for backup? I totally wish I was in retirement with nothing to do but sew and wait to buy fabric all day but, I’m not. So, I need checkout to be in-​and-​outy, speedy style.

On the whole, a solid fabric/​craft store. Certainly not your only option for crafts or art supplies in Nassau county. But, one of the only reasonable (if not the only) options for fabric in non anemic supply.

In need of fabric? this is the place to go. Get their free app for 40−50% off coupons and start shoppin. Fabric for clothes, furniture, whatever it is you wanna make. And they have all the other arts and crafts things you need as well… Cake decorating? check. Wedding DIY? check. Flower Arranging? check. Scrapbooking? check. and im sure they cover all kinds of other things too…

If you are looking to do some art and craft projects that include basic sewing or quilting, this store is for you. It’s not as big as Michael’s and their fabric collection are not as diverse/​high-​end as some fabric stores in Manhattan.
It has sewing pattern kit but the styles are outdated, and their classes only offer beginner sewing and crafts, but I think they position themselves as one stop place for general fabrics and crafts, not a specialty fabric or craft stores.
I’m fortunate that I can go here on weekdays, so the line for cutting counter is not long at all.
And just go to their website to print their 40% coupon (only for one single item, regular price), I believe you don’t have to sign up. I find their price are slightly higher than Michael’s, but like Michael’s they often do 40−50% sale on their products.

It is too bad that this is the largest and most convenient fabric store for this area of long island. It has a decent inventory of basic fabrics and caters mostly to the crafting and quilting customer. if you are looking for higher end fabric do not come here.
The service here is very inconsistent. Some of the ladies who work here are nice and helpful. Others are terrible and do not understand the concept of good customer service. I recently tried to return 7 yards of intact fabric with a receipt. Because I had cutoff 1 yard of the fabric (it has originallybeen 8 yards) they refused my return. Thus is despite the fact that the return policy on the receipt makes no mention of this policy nor could the manager produce any written notice of the policy anywhere in the store. Rude.
Also, be prepared to wait on long lines to have your fabric cut. This store is notoriously understaffed at the cutting counter.

I’ts a very basic store. Their fabric collection is just ok. Their trim collection is very sad. There is lots of potential for that store to be amazing. They need to get rid of the arts and crafts supplies that no one looks at, and bring in more designer fabrics, silks and loads of trim to make it a real fabric store. I do like their 40% off coupons.

This really is the place to go when you need fabric, sewing supplies, thread, arts and crafts, you name it! Slightly more involved with fabric than Michael’s, yet not as big.
