Wonderful dentist. Whole staff is professional and kind. They take the time to get to know you here, and it seems like they really want you to enjoy your experience(as much as possible!) at the dentist. Was recommended to her by my boss, and I have since recommended her to others in the area as well.

THE. HORROR! Two weeks ago, I went in for a cleaning and I left in pain and angry tears. The hygienist did not let up on how I needed to floss every day. Every 5 minutes, she was reiterating her point. I get it, lady, I am an adult and of above average intelligence. I do not need you to keep making your point. When she likened scaling my teeth to «scraping barnacles off a boat» I knew that I’d never return again. Why would she feel the need to shame the patient? But it got worse. The hygienist was really ruthless in her cleaning. And just when I thought she’d finished, she said, «That was the first pass. Now I’m going to go back for the second pass.» Why was she not doing it right the first time? Never have I been to the dentist and had such a painful and debasing experience. I stopped her before she could polish my teeth and«teach me how to floss and brush my teeth.» I am 37 years old, with a mouth full of teeth… I think I’ve figured out how to do those two things by now! I was already annoyed at the administrative side of this practice as they require you to pay for services upfront and then you have to collect reimbursement from your insurance company. This is inconvenient as then you have to take a check to be deposited, but it also points out how over-priced Portnoff’s practice is as her fees consistently exceed the allowable deductions. My family will be finding a new dentist and I caution yours against going here.

Allow me to preface this by saying: I. HATE. THEDENTIST. I’m 26 and I will tell you I have cried at the dentist as an adult. It’s the most horrifying thing in the world to me and I want to be put under just for cleanings. No me gusta.(Judgements welcome.) First off, I feel weird reviewing doctors on Unilocal, even though that’s kind of what this site was originally started for. how strange. However, if you need a dentist for whatever reason, you need to go here. I started going to Dr. Portnoff after a friend recommended her to me. I had been seeing the same dentist since I was about 9. My whole family had been seeing him; he was a family friend of ours and we trusted them. His office décor hadn’t been updated since the 70s and, from what I now know about up-to-date dentist offices, I’m not so sure his equipment had been, either. I was more than impressed walking into Dr. Portnoff’s office the first time. The office is beautiful and located in one of my hometown’s quaint little historic houses right on Main Street, but the office is far from old-fashioned. The walls are all a clean white and there is plenty of natural light. It’s far from the morbid dentist’s office that I was familiar with.(Honestly, I couldn’t even believe there were current magazines in the waiting room and, if I remember correctly, a Keurig.) The first time I went in, I was very upfront about what a wuss I am when it comes to dental exams. I’m willing to humble myself for the possibility of them being SUPER careful. They listened to my concerns and took great care to make sure I was never left in the dark. I was blown away with their knowledge and pure professionalism, not to mention how up-to-date their practices were. I was given mouthwash and had my blood pressure checked before we began, which I’ve never had done for a cleaning before. They informed me that it should be standard practice as it’s important to take vitals into consideration. As they gave me the exam, they explained everything they were doing, step by step, and never once talked behind my back(as in the hygienist and the dentist while reviewing my x-rays) and made sure I understood exactly what they were looking at. Everyone, especially Dr. Portnoff herself, was extremely kind and patient. The staff is so friendly from first impression at the scheduling desk to booking the next appointment on your way out. I’ve since sent several friends there and my whole family has switched with similar reviews. Even if you live a little outside Westborough, if you’ve ever had an issue with a dentist before, the drive is worth it.

Dr. Portnoff is great! She is extremely personable. She really takes the time to listen and address all of your needs. She is very thorough and meticulous(LOVE those traits in a dentist!). After a bad experience with another dentist, she was such a relief! She fixed the problem and even caught something he missed. She has a charming office that is the ground floor of an old house. Her equipment is high tech and she has flat screens with cable in the operatories and you get to choose what to watch. I have seen her hygienist, Carrie. She was thorough and very kind.
