Back Country Adventure Snowmobile Rentals

I’m the Director of the Florida Center for Creative Photography and we had a great three day Yellowstone experience with Backcountry Adventures and their guide, Mindy. They provided lunches, gear and much more during the three days. This is a first class operation and we’ll be back with another group of photographers in 2017.

Such an amazing experience! One of the best days of my life. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. Our guide was so knowledgeable. The prices on everything were super reasonable. We called a dozen of other places and this was definitely the most affordable.
As far as the park itself, there are no words to describe how beautiful it is. I couldn’t get over it. Stop thinking about it and call the place and go. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Outstanding service by this friendly outfit. Had a fantastic guided trip to Two Top mountain. Clay took the time to get us comfortable with driving a snow machine (it had been a while). Gorgeous country, great trip, excellent guide and a great outfit to deal with. Highly recommended.

trip of a lifetime!!! my husband and i definitely recommend these guys for a snowmobile trip into yellowstone! we headed out west to ski jackson and big sky and found this to be our favorite part of the trip. every step of the way was extremely easy from scheduling over the phone a couple months in advance to getting suited up the morning of our trip. we were so fortunate to have mickey be our tour guide. this guy is hilarious! mickey is also very well educated on the area and knows where to go to see wildlife, waterfalls, and geysers. definitely ask for him if you go! we couldn’t recommend this trip more… GO!!!

First, this is an absolutely amazing trip and I highly recommend everyone go, but I recommend you go with another company.
From the moment we walked in the door, the owner and the lady working the register and check in, Mindy, were extremely rude. My father walked in about five minutes after I did looking for a coffee pot to get a drink and warm up. Mindy and the owner did not realize he was with me and tried to get me to make fun of him when he walked off by making rude faces and comments. So as to not create any animosity right off the bat, I just said he was trying to find coffee because it was ten degrees outside and they realized their 7^th grade humor was being wasted.
When it finally became my turn, I checked in and Mindy told me I was signed up for six snowmobiles. I explained to her that I had called two different times and confirmed that I was taking six people on 3 snowmobiles that day and six people on three snowmobiles 3 days later. The owner walked up and I tried to explain the situation and told him I had called twice to confirm and even had a discount because we were going twice. He was extremely rude and adamant that I would be paying for all six that day. He stated that he sent me an email — I did not receive if he did — and me confirming over the phone twice did not matter. He became so angry that I expected him to be reasonable and honor my six total that he cancelled my Friday reservation and charged my credit card that was on file for all six even though we only used 3.
Unfortunately, our guide was Mindy. It’s impossible to make this trip no fun, but she gave it her best effort. She was extremely rude and condescending throughout the entire trip. She treated the group as if we were a bunch of kindergarteners on a field trip instead of adults with common sense that paid big money to see the amazing sights.
When we returned from the trip, I went and talked to the owner to see if we could come to some resolution. I explained to him that we had paid for six total snowmobiles and only wanted what was promised to is and paid for — six total snowmobiles. I understood his dilemma and the confusion, but I was giving him $ 1500 the week of closing season for Yellowstone tours. In his defense, he agreed and said he had charged my card the full amount already, but he would honor the original agreement and allow us to come Friday — I had already paid for 6 and only used 3. He stated that he had already taken our name out of the reservation, but he would put it back in when things slowed down.
When we showed up Friday, Mindy said we were supposed to be there Thursday and they were full and we couldn’t go. After her lying and saying she heard me say Thursday, I asked to see the owner. When he came out, he said we should have been there Thursday. I explained to him that it was always Friday — we had other plans on Thursday — and he must have put it in the book wrong after he took our names out. He claimed I was wrong, but he would make it work and would put us in with another group. That worked and this guide was absolutely amazing. He made the trip even more fun. When I got home, I checked my junk mail folder and had an email from the owner from when he cancelled my reservation. He stated in the email that he had cancelled my reservation for Friday — this proves that I was there on the correct day and they lied to my face. I saved the email in case they want to deny, but I have still not found the one they sent to me saying I reserved 6/​day.
I can’t say enough that the Yellowstone tour is amazing! I loved the scenery and will definitely go back. However, I’ll spend my money at a place that is not rude to the customers and will point blank lie to your face. There are too many other people that will take my $ 1500 and say thank you and treat everyone with respect

There is a reason these guys have a perfect score on Unilocal.We had a group of four and had very limited choices about a month in advance because their slots fill up quickly! Expect to arrive at about 8am so you have some extra time to change into their gear (worth the $ 15). They will provide you with a one piece snow suit, boots and gloves. Their snowmobiles are in mint condition. We were on brand new 4-​stroke 2014 arctic cats with heated seats, grips and throttle. I think the whole park is limited to about 300 snowmobiles a day but they all start at about the same time. Our guide (Mickey) did an excellent job breaking us away from the pack and making it a point to stop and show us some of the ‘off the beaten path’ geysers and scenic view points. It was amazing how many animals we came across. A minor downside was that the Yellowstone rules are strict and you will not get a chance to open up the snowmobile to see what it can do but the trade off was worth it because of how amazing that park is in the winter.

Love the Yellowstone! We booked with Backcountry exclusively because it was a family own business as we love to support small businesses. I must say we were not disappointed. The snowcoach tour to Old Faithfull was amazing! our guide was knowledgeable and simply awesome!(I hate that I forgot his name; but he had an amazing voice; seriously he could be a voice over movies or a radio personally). The snowcoash was very comfortable and plenty of space for everyone on the tour. Everything was so organized and they have plenty staff to take care of everything. Backcountry snowcoaches are quiet and really don’t disturb the wild life and you can actually speak to each other without having to scream. (that wasn’t the case with others; read my review on that). Part of our group also booked a snow mobile tour and they enjoyed it as well. Overall we really enjoyed our tours and highly recommend them.

Despite flying to Jackson Hole and Big Sky for a ski trip I have to say that the highlight of our trip was our tour to OLD FAITHFUL aboard Snowmobiles with Back Country Adventures. The guys at Back Country Adventure did a great job taking care of us, everything was well organized, the trip was relatively cheap considering it was a full day of entertainment, and we had a blast.
When we arrived at Back Country Adventures (BCA) the thermometer in my car read –12°F (yes, negative twelve). We were a little apprehensive about the trip. As soon as we walked in though, we knew we’d have a great time. They were super organized and had a ton of staff on hand to check us in, get us setup with the right gear, and get us on our way. It was almost like an assembly line … while we waited to check in another employee got us boots and helmets, another employee fitted people for clothing, and another came around answering peoples questions. Everyone was very nice.
Back Country Adventures has everything you’d need for this trip in the event that you came unprepared. If you don’t have enough warm clothing they have «onsy» (jump suites) that are perhaps the warmest things on earth. They’ll also fit you with fancy insulated boots, a helmet (which is required), and gloves if needed.
For those of you concerned you might be cold, don’t be. Not only is the clothing super warm, but the snowmobiles are HEATED. They have heated seats, heated handlebars (for both the driver and a passenger, should you do a 2 person bike), and for the driver, heated thumb accelerator. If my toes got cold I just pushed them into the foot holders and the heat from the engine would warm them up.
Once we were all checked in we broke into 2 groups of 10 snowmobiles, had an orientation, and off we went into yellowstone. If you have a National Park pass you don’t have to pay the $ 15 park entrance fee and the guys at BCA took care of that for me, then brought my pass back to me, so I didn’t have to get my wallet out in the freezing cold.
We rented a 2 person snowmobile, although all of BCA’s snowmobiles could seat 2-​people. Some people rode solo. For the price it was great to put 2 people on a bike. We just alternated after stops and both of us had a blast driving.
It was then a 30 mile snowmobile to Old Faithful. Basically you just drive in a line, following the snowmobile in front of you, at 35mph. The snowmobiles are pretty easy to drive (They almost drive themselves), although at times it can be a little bumpy … but more in a side-​to-​side bump than an up-​and-​down bumpy way.
Along the way we stopped a number of times to view the wildlife: Bison, Swans, Bald Eagles, and Coyotes were some of the things we saw. Our guide, Pierre, was excellent at spotting the wildlife and stopped basically anytime my brain though «ohh! I want to stop and see that!» In fact, he often found things *behind* us that I have no clue how he even saw!
At mile 14 there is a warming hut that we stopped at. It has bathrooms, hot-​chocolate/​coffee, some snacks, and most importantly, a big wood burning stove to warm up at. From there we were back on our snowmobiles.
The tour left around 9am (we had to be there at 8am to check in) and we got to Old Faithful around noon. There’s 2 restaurants (a sit-​down and a quicker grill) at Old Faithful and we had plenty of time to grab lunch, walk around the visitors center, and then watch Old Faithful blow. Ironically, watching her blow was the least interesting part of the trip (the wildlife was awesome!).
On the drive back we stopped at some hot-​springs, a couple more geysers, stopped for some more wildlife (we got about 10 feet from a couple Bison, that walked up on us, which was amazing, and saw another Coyote!). I felt safe the entire time and our guide did a great job of teaching us about the park, showing us interesting things, and keeping us together.
We arrived back at BCA around 4pm, warmed back up, paid for our tour, and were on our way. We were very happy campers and I’d definitely recommend BCA to anyone who is interested in seeing Yellowstone in the winter!
Perhaps my only gripe would be that there was a small gap between the helmet and the visor, in which air would blow through, making my face a little chilly. I’m surprised the visor didn’t completely fit over the helmet, blocking any potential side wind. Then again, it prob. helped keep the visors from fogging up. Lastly, I think they charged me for helmets, which surprised me since they’re required. Otherwise, super happy!

We took a snow coach tour to see Yellowstone NP in the winter. Oh my! What a fabulous day! Skip was our guide and we couldn’t have asked for a better person. Professional, friendly, organized, and full of information about all the geology and history of the park. We felt like we had our own personal ranger! There was never a time that we had any questions or were at a loss of what to do at a stop. We had photo stops, short walks filled with information, lunch break in a heated yurt if you brought your own lunch or a café If you didn’t and outstanding scenery. On our return around 5, the shop was filled with all the customers ending their varied adventures… however, checking out was easy and done efficiently! Great business, through and through! Thank you Skip and owners.

We got just what we were hoping for on this tour. When we found out we had to be part of a guided tour to enter the park on snowmobiles, we were bummed and just hoped that we would get in with a decent tour company and we weren’t disappointed.
Aside from the great service and the well-​organized process to get checked-​in and properly prepped, the best part, and probably the most important aspect of our tour was the tour guide. We had Andy and he was awesome. He was a local who grew up around the park and knew it so well. He didn’t let us get bogged down by the crowds and preferred that we bypass the crowds to get to the greatest parts of the park ahead of the rest of the tours. He had great advice to make our trip the most efficient and he was fairly knowledgeable about the geography in the park. I appreciated his insight and expertise and he was just the kind of tour guide we wanted: smart, down-​to-​earth, not hokey and not frilly. I just felt like we had a good sized group and I felt that the whole time on the tour we were getting the best possible for what we were paying. It was a great day.
I recommend this company and Andy as a guide.

We had a group of 9, and we rented snowmobiles from here for three days. For the first two days, we took a private, guided tour through the park, and on the third day we took them out on our own outside of the park. Over the first two days, we traveled around two hundred miles and experienced Old Faithful, herds of bison, other exciting wildlife, and other scenic attractions. Our guide, Andy, did a great job at answering all of our questions about the park and more, and he made the experience very interactive and engaging. Jerry, the owner, did an outstanding job at making us feel at home in a place so different from where we live. All of the staff at Back Country Adventures made the experience very memorable, and we could not have asked for a better trip. I definitely recommend Back Country.
