Flamig Farms

We love this place! We’ve been taking my daughter here since she could walk and now we have 2 kids and they are both obsessed! It’s a smaller farm but to us that’s great. Your kids can explore without feeling like you’ll loose them around every corner. They have tons of chickens, a few horses and ponies, goats, sheep, cows, donkeys, peacocks, emus, llamas, pigs and more. They have a cute little shop with snacks and fresh eggs and meat and a little picnic table area. They sell grain to feed the animals and offer pony rides for a few dollars. I love that it has the family farm feel. You can tell they have pride in their farm.

I am not outdoorsy so only a children’s birthday party would bring me to a place like this. Flaming Farm is a delightful little farm that allows patrons to view and feed a nice variety of animals. There are chickens, pigs, ducks, llamas and even a peacock. Kids can enjoy tractor and pony rides as well. This is a fun little farm/​zoo. I recently discovered that they offer a children’s summer program and I am definitely interested in learning more!

This is a down-​home petting zoo that kids love. Flaming has some unusual animals as well. They have baby animals in the Spring. Don’t miss their summer camp, Halloween Haunted Hayride and Breakfast with Santa is the best! Visit the Egg store for local eggs, meat, ice cream and crafts. I have known the folks who run this farm for years and they are quality people who really give back to their community. Everyone I bring to the farm just loves it, and if you want a great get-​away, they have an apartment you can rent on AirBnB!

We volunteered today to spend a few hours cleaning local walking trails for the Farmington Valley Trails Council. (By the way, if there was a nickel deposit on cigarette butts, I would have made enough money to buy you all dinner).
Besides the sunshine, fresh air and exercise, a nice benefit was a visit to Flamig Farms, who generously hosted a barbecue lunch for the volunteers.
Flamig Farms was crowded today with a lot of families with kids. What a fabulous place to bring kids! The property is a treasure chest of delight and wonder for the little ones. You’ll find a petting zoo, pony rides and dozens of cool animals that you can get pretty close to.
What kinds of animals? Well, we saw lots of horses-​ranging from small ones and ponies to giant draft horses. We saw donkeys and cows. We saw peacocks and chickens and pheasants and ducks. We saw alpacas and emus and goats and sheep. We saw little bitty piglets and a freaking huge 800 pound porker.
You can buy a cup of feed for a buck, and since most of the animals are separated from you by a wood or wire fence, so you can get right up to them for feeding.
What a sweet place !

Outstanding outing for younger children. A bit of a money trap, but proceeds are used to keep the animals well fed and the facilities In good repair. I would definitely return and recommend.

This is a great place for a family outing. We’ve gone a couple times a year over the past three years with our daughter. It’s usually not over crowded and it’s just big enough to walk around for an hour and feed the animals. The grounds are well kept and the animals are clearly well cared for. The staff are friendly, and let you enjoy the animals without feeling you’re being watched. It’s a nice spot. They do some pony rides on weekends and have other activities throughout the year. This place could only be made better if they had freshly made ice cream inside the shop.
The bread and butter of this place is the fresh eggs. You can meander into the chicken coup and see the 400+ chickens that play the eggs. It’s quite a sight (and smell!).
If you’re looking for a nice morning or afternoon to walk around and feed some llamas, sheep, goats, donkeys, ducks, bunnies, horses, cows, pigs, emus, and peacocks, this is the place to go.

I first heard about Flamig Farm when I moved to Avon in 2007. At the time, my boys were almost 3 and 6 years old, so I heard all the local moms talking about Flamig Farm’s petting zoo and summer camps. This place is just such a GEM of an experience, but not just for little kids!
There is something for everyone at Flamig Farm. There are hayrides (you can also do a birthday party hayride!), there are animals (horses, mules, pigs, baby chicks, kittens, and the emus are my favorite — they make the coolest noise you’ve ever heard!), and there is so much to learn about sustainable farming and renewable energy sources!
You can go to Flamig Farm’s website and sign up to receive their «Eggs Press» Newsletter and learn about all the upcoming events at the farm. You do NOT want to miss one of their haunted hayrides. They sell out every season. It’s a lot of fun to reserve a hayride for a group of friends on a dark Halloween-​time evening!
The camp for kids ages 5 – 12 is terrific. Kids learn how to take care of animals and get their hands in the dirt. Once they age out of that camp, they can be counselors-​in-​training.
I also recently learned they have a «Staycation» working farm bed and breakfast that you can find on their website and AirBNB. I hear they may incorporate a «cook with the farmers» option in the future. And picturesque Simsbury is just a beautiful spot for a little get away. Right next door to Tulmeadow Farms (best ice cream you’ve ever tasted!).
This place is something really special, and the folks who run it are wonderful. Please visit!

if you want to spend the morning or afternoon entertaining your kid (s), look no further. for $ 5 for everyone over 2yo and $ 1 for cups of feed (that you are requested to return before you leave), it’s money well spent.
when we went there was a summer camp and Carl Brown (a young cow) and another young cow born in April were roaming free, loving it.
the campers were having a blast but the highlight was watching 800 lb. Dexter maneuver around his little hut in the pig pen.
will be back for sure.
oh, and my 4yo was allowed in the chicken coup while campers collected eggs, he was super excited about that.

Lots of animals to feed although the place is not huge. The gentlest animal to feed is the donkey. We first came across the horse, which was very pleasant and well behaved. Next were the ponies (a little mouthy & pushy) and with them were llamas and a donkey. The donkey was such a gentle eater. The llamas were fine taking food, but did not want to be pet. We preceded on to more goats, sheep, alpacas, and again two very gentle non-​pushy donkeys. I always thought donkeys were not pleasant, but these were very gentle eaters and would let you pet them (our favorites). I also got to feed the emus (who like grass and they were easy to feed & didn’t get mouthy). Unfortunately we weren’t able to pet any rabbits because they were in cages and it was very very warm the day we went. Overall an enjoyable and pleasant way to spend your day.

This place is too cute! $ 5/​person, $ 1/​cup of grain, not too big. Perfect for my almost 3 year old. Shaded picnic area. An actual farm, so no depressing small areas. Bunnies, peacocks, chickens, goats, rams, sheep cows, emus, goats, pigs, donkeys, horses.
Small store, with fresh eggs for $ 5/​dozen. $ 36 hoodies, $ 22 tee shirts, boxers, etc. Some pork, local honey, they sell good dirt. Lots of hand washing stations.

This place is fantastic and brings out the kid in you. The animals are all very well taken care of and super friendly. I just can’t say enough good things. Its worth it to bring friends and family, its not a HUGE HUGE zoo by any means, but its more like a farm, with farm animals that you can feed and pet and visit with. I thought it had a nice variety of animals, and as an animal lover, especially a farm animal lover, I was overwhelmed with fun and joy feeding and hanging out with them. The staff was very friendly and I thought the gift shop was nice.
Some reviews say the farm is «small» which I don’t agree with, it has several horses, two cows, lots of goats, pigs, chickens, donkey’s and more!
Its again not a «Philadelphia-​sized-​Zoo» but its not supposed to be. Honestly, i have been to other petting zoo’s at large zoo’s and THEY were small and over priced. In NYC you can pay something like $ 14.00 to see three animals, its robbery!
Flamig farm is opposite of that its a mid-​sized petting zoo, without the tourism and gives you that hometown feel. The $ 5.00 price for the fee is reasonable and there for the animals.
The gift shop is really there to raise money for the animals, as well, and offers fresh eggs to buy and honey– another plus.

Coming here brought me back to the good olé days of growing up in Nebraska. I was here this past weekend for my boyfriend’s niece’s birthday party. Upon arrival, there was plenty of parking, and a large sign so you couldn’t miss it.
Party room was a little outdated, but was functional.
The woman leading our group was great, and very good with all the little kids. Pony rides (I was over the weight limit for these… sad!), feeding all sorts of animals, petting animals, etc. Everything was fun!
There were fresh eggs for sale as well as cute clothing and items with the farm’s name on them.
I’d come back if I was in the area, and also if I had little kids with me.

My family loves Flamig Farm. We used to go to Vermont to visit similar farms, but once we found Flamig Farm we used to make it a day trip to visit Flamig and some other nice spots in Simsbury and Canton. We enjoyed it so much that my children participated in their summer camps for many seasons and we are about an hour away from them. The camp experience allowed them to work on farm and have FUN. It is a beautiful farm that takes care of their animals and teaches children about sustainability, but also how to have fun and be silly. This farm is a treasure to the community and I love visiting it when we are in the area.

Went there because we purchased a Living Social deal. Glad we did! It was a great experience for the kids (28 month old twins). The animals seemed well taken care of, farm doesn’t stink like crazy — except for the pigs lol, grounds are well kept. They sell fresh eggs there too! We are going back tomorrow!

Great Place to take kids. It is nice that you can actually touch the animals and feed them. The farm sells fresh eggs. It is clean and well kept.

Personally, I take my kids to Westmoor in West Hartford more because a visit there is closer and free, and the barn and grounds are nicer and the animals comparable and my kids are afraid to feed the animals, but it is nice that such a place such as Flamig is nearby where you actually can touch and feed the animals if inclined, and I know that costs money to support. I loved the hayride and my kids liked their pony ride. Went there for Earth Day. Music was a bit loud. Enjoyed talking with the vendors. A real community enterprise. They do have a beautiful vision. I am glad they exist. Check out their website. I enjoyed feeding the cones of grain to the donkeys myself. They also were able to deliver compost to me same day to start my garden beds. Love them for that!!!
