Nugget Markets

I cannot thank Matt in the Produce Department enough for what he does for me. He goes above and beyond to always get what I need and always returns with the best of the best. I need that brocolli to keep going with my health issues. I appreciate him so much and just want you to know there’s another one of Nuggets great hard working employee’s. Kudos to Matt!!!

I alternate between 3 grocery stores when I’m in the area, and it depends on what I need. If I’m looking for a number of organic/​natural brand items but I also want something Whole Foods wouldn’t carry (like most anything from «mainstream brand»), I’m going to Nugget.
In terms of price, Nugget is slightly more than most grocery stores in the area, but still less than Whole Foods for a total trip if you buy a mixture of high-​end and «regular» brands. On the other hand, if you prefer to buy only the natural, organic, high-​end stuff, you’ll almost definitely spend more at Nugget and get less selection. So really, it just depends on what you’re after.
The smoothies and bakery are both quite good. Selection on sliced cakes can be hit or miss depending on when you come in, but there’s definitely good stuff to be had.
My biggest gripe with the Nugget is that they don’t have a big enough seating area if you choose to dine in around lunchtime. You can stand there for 10 – 15 minutes waiting, all the while annoying all the people who are just trying to enjoy a quick meal in peace. I’d love to see that area expanded or made more efficient. Half the time, the 4-​person tables are all full of 2-​person parties.
The cashiers are also weirdly chatty to the point that it makes me wonder if they specifically tell their cashiers to try to engage people in conversations. If you’re a chatty person, that’s great — but they never seem to get the clue when you give short answers. I’m just not a small-​talk person, and I really don’t like having random people inquire about my evening plans, whether a certain product bothers my stomach, what I intend to cook, whether I’m a vegetarian, etc. That’s just way too personal for strangers at the grocery store, and it happens all the time here.
Overall, though, it’s a pretty good store with a nice mixture of local items, high-​end stuff, organic/​natural/​vegetarian selections, and «regular person» food.

Great foodservice store. Firecracker sando is beyond amazing & you cannot beat their acai bowls. Love everything about this place. The perfect lunch spot.

My family always buys Ettore’s cakes for all birthdays and celebrations… My brother bought a fruit basket cake from Ettore’s here on New Year’s Eve for a birthday on New Year’s Day. Ettore’s was out of whole cakes on NYE and would’ve closed on New Year’s Day so he bought a cake from Nugget, knowing that they do sell cakes from Ettore’s.

Shawn and Figs are my favorite! Picture the day before Thanksgiving and I have completely run out of time and I don’t feel like dealing with the madness of Raley’s. I figure I just don’t care at this point and I’ll go drag it out at Nugget. I finally get down my list, see everyone in my neighborhood and wish them a nice Thanksgiving, work through the cheese section where the adorable, sweet woman behind the counter takes time to help me select some things for my cheese board… anyway, I get to the checkout and I’m exhausted. I crack a little joke about how I hope their day is going well and they are all, «oh, yes! yes, this is the best day ever! Our customers actually rock» and then they joke about how a few people have filled TWO carts. I almost overfill my one cart.
Figs asks me if he can help me out to the car. I never say yes. Except I said yes, please! Figs helped me out, was super friendly, we chatted about the holiday madness and he loaded up my car. I asked if I could give him a tip and he said no, but I could fill out a comment card. Next time I will, Figs, I promise! But here’s my virtual comment card.
Your store might be really expensive but your customer service really makes that okay in my book. Thanks Nugget!

Love that I can go and taste all their premade dishes at the deli area. Always a nice variety and a new lunch time favorite!

Pricey but worth it. Definitely better for speciality items ie cheese, wine, etc. I had a gift card so myself and the boyfriend decided to get some stuff for a picnic. Paid around $ 30 for two sandwiches, cheese, crackers, salsa, and chips. All the employees are super nice and helpful. I got a veggie sandwich and my boyfriend got one of the sandwiches from their menu. Ingredients were very fresh. I liked how they had a little basket with small cheeses for under $ 4. We also stopped to get some coffee, I decided on the cranberry white mocha which was amazing. I would totally do all my grocery shopping here if it wasn’t so expensive but it’s nice to treat yo self sometimes :)

The drinks here are prepared fresh every time. I love the way they’re always changing it to the season of the drinks.
Their coffee and pastries I also recommend they’re delicious.
Me and my friends have been coming here for a long time and we’ve always received five star service.
They also have the best wines if you’re wife drinker!
For lunch their green salad and their clam chowder are always great.

I used to like The Nugget quite a bit, but lately i have been very disappointed by their marinated meats, especially the chicken legs and the carne asada. Stringy, chewy, tasting old. It has happened more than once, so i do not think these were isolated incidents. Do they use the meats that are at the end of their saleable life for these purposes?
Another thing that annoys me is the price of the sandwiches. At $ 8.99, i really do not think they provide a more elevated experience than Safeway or Raley’s.
I am also saddened to see that the fruit and vegetables that they remove from the shelves go straight into the trash can, instead of being donated to those less fortunate.

Deli counter issues again. I think I might just be done with the nugget. As cheerful and kind ad the workers are they sometimes lack common sense.
I was in charge of taking one pound of meat to a friends football party. Of course I volunteered for this and I would bring the best. I asked for a pound of boars head brand chicken sliced for sandwiches.
Today we open the sloppy ball looking pound of meat the lady wrapped up for me. This was the most embarassing thing to show up with complete crap for sandwich meat. This was paper thin cold cuts that made for terrible sandwiches. I will probably trash the rest of this as its not even edible. When will they hire people with a little more experience?

Nugget market is a hybrid between a whole foods and a run of the mill raleys store. They carry some specialty items but also carry national brand items as well. Their prices are much higher compared to any other national grocery chain. I understand that the esthetics of the nugget is much nicer, but still it does not justify spendings sometimes three times as much for an item you can get down the street at raleys. I do like how they try to support local small businesses. They have a great local beer selection here. Bakery is also not too bad and they have a pretty awesome variety of speciality Cheese. I come here because of location, it’s the closet market to my home.

My boyfriend thinks it’s absurd how I live a block away from both Bel-​Air and a Raley’s, but I chose to drive 10 minutes to Nugget Market. Some people just don’t understand quality over quantity. That’s exactly how I feel after leaving Nugget with about 1 – 2 totes full of goodies, yet I spent about 3X as much as I would have if I went to one of the other grocery stores. I’m quite happy doing this as I know quality is more important than quantity.
Deli: I’m a little biased, but I truly believe the Covell Deli makes the best sandwiches. Never skimping on any ingredient. My firecrackers are always grilled to perfection, but it seems like they add less chipotle sauce each time. I almost always change one thing or another, usually swap out spring mix for spinach or add garlic or something random and I’ve never heard anyone say no to me. I don’t get charged extra either!
Juice Bar: Wonderful! Fresh & all-​natural ingredients… made to order. I get the Triple G with a shot of Ginger, worth paying the extra 30 cents… it really makes me feel energized and good! Best pick-​me-​up ever! Don’t let the green smoothie craze drive you away, this one is truly delicious even for non green-​smoothie lovers.
Bakery: Fresh bread all of the time, I legit walk over to smell and touch the bread after it’s taken out of the oven. I probably shouldn’t, but I can’t resist. So much local products from Pushkin’s, Ettore’s, etc.
Cheese: Wide-​selection, less than Whole Foods for sure, but you can find a few items that will surprise you. I wish they sampled more.
Sushi: The best store bought sushi I have ever had. Hands down, maybe even better than some Sushi Bars. The quality of the fish is wonderful, flavor is great and the esthetics are extremely pleasing as well.
Produce: I like how organized everything is, I’ve never walked over to pick fruit or veggies and found unappetizing, bruised produce. They do a great job of keeping everything stocked and fresh.
Customer Service: Employees here seem to genuinely like their jobs, they’re always upbeat, happy and optimistic. They’re extremely helpful, anytime I get stuck pondering over a product, I usually have someone come by and ask me if I need help. truly I’m just having a hard time cutting back on items to buy.
Overall: I used to be a Whole Foods snob, but now that I’ve left the East Bay… I think I’m back to my old ways. Nugget Market is the epitome of luxury grocery shopping. Even if it hurts my wallet, I can’t help myself from supporting this great establishment.

I love this store! They have everything you could possibly need! From organic to holistic products, fresh seafood and meat department, a bakery, juice and coffee bar and fresh cooked food. I don’t remember the nugget in greenhaven being this nice!

A wonderful place to find amazing food other supermarkets are scared to sale. I love Saags Bochwurst (white bratwurst with chives) and usually I have to venture to a German speciality deli for it. If you enjoy cheese then be sure to stop by the great selection in the deli department. While Whole Foods mans the this area ready to give samples at a moments notice, I have only seen someone offering preselected samples once. Oh, if you’re a craft beer fan, then you have found one of the best places for some incredible beer.
Overall, the Nugget is nice and very similar to Whole Foods down to being pricey. With the selection the Nugget offers, you won’t be disappointed though.

If I could only have one grocery store, it would be Nugget Markets. They are simply the best anywhere. Their location in West Sacramento is usually convenient to central Sacramento, although it is a bit far for most shopping. This location has the same footprint as most of the newer Nuggets with a large produce section entry area with a massive coffee/​juice/​deli section right by the entrance. Even the parking lot has a lot of large trees shading the cars during a hot day.
The place is just gorgeous. Nugget puts a lot of special detail in their stores from the colored and textured concrete floors to the labeling on the shelf displays. They stock an impressive amount of organic, local, and specialty groceries with an extensive meat and produce section. Their deli is equally awesome with great sandwiches and a large salad and hot buffet. Their cheese and wine rivals most high end shops and probably beats Whole Foods.
Nugget is also competitive on prices. Sure, the specialty stuff is expensive, but the standard grocery items are priced similar or less than other stores. They are also a locally-​owned company and consistently rated as a good employer which is a positive for everyone. I wish we had one closer to downtown Sacramento, but the West Sacramento location is the closest and usually not very crowded.

I came to this Nugget to look for an item that only nugget carried, but did not find it. It was my first time here, and we stopped by the bakery to admire their pastries and Angela helped us. We asked to sample some macarons and she was more than happy to assist us. Her positive energy got us feeling welcomed.
While we were looking for the item, we asked for help where to find rice and the associate who helped us was also very friendly.
When we checked out, the cashier separated our items for us and was very helpful as well. All the associates here have such a good positive energy, all were very helpful and attentive. I will definitely be back here to shop.

Can’t go wrong living a few blocks from Nugget. Super friendly staff and the shelves are always stocked with goodies.
The aisles are squeaky clean as the whole store. Great craft beer selection as well. If you can’t decide on what to get just ask one of the beer connoisseurs that works there.
Can’t say enough about Nugget!

There is always something awesome to find at Nugget Markets. When I visited this particular location last night, I was looking for a quick bite to eat before heading to a movie later in the evening.
Nugget is known for having awesome made-​to-​order sandwiches, but last night I was looking for something even cheaper and quicker than that, so went for a slice of cheese pizza for $ 2.99, a cold vegetarian breakfast burrito for $ 3.99, and a bar of Nugget brand (Fresh to Market) milk chocolate with sea salt and almonds.
I love my pizza lukewarm, so my slice of pizza tasted great without being reheated. For those who don’t prefer their pizza lukewarm like me, you can always ask for them to heat it up or use the microwave available at the front of the store. I considered for a moment using the microwave to heat up the breakfast burrito I just bought, but then realized that I was already full from the pizza slice and so saved it for later.
The chocolate bar I picked up near the register which was in a display along with many other kinds of gourmet chocolate. Since this bar was part of the Nugget brand, it was cheaper than the rest, but it definitely did not disappoint! If you like milk chocolate along with the crunch of almonds paired with the saltiness that sea salt provides, you should definitely give the Nugget brand a try.
I’ll definitely come back if I need to pick up a few things to-​go while in West Sacramento.

In a head-​to-​head match up between Nugget and Whole Foods, I would choose Nugget for price and Whole Foods would edge out on selection and deli offerings. Really, they are both at the pinnacle of luxury grocery shopping. It’s hard to return to Safeway after a visit here.
I love this particular Nugget because it’s rarely crowded and it’s always well stocked. Never can I not find what I’m looking for, never is there not someone close by to help me, and never am I looking at labels and thinking items are overpriced. For those who think Nugget is a pricier store, it’s because of the selection of goods they carry, not because the same products you can find at Save Mart or Whole Foods are pricier here.
I tried their deli for the first time and was disappointed in my chicken meatball sandwich. Between the bread, the skimpy amount of sauce and the meatballs, it was very dry. Still, the service was friendly and the selection, while not quite that of Whole Foods, was enough for me to be satisfied.

I love Nugget. I understand it’s a bit pricey for most, but you get what you pay for and in this case, its BEYOND worth it.
Don’t ask me how they cracked the code of friendly staff, but I always get help when I need it, with a smile, and eager to please. This is the only grocery store that I could actually tell you about the DECOR. From their artistic painted gloss cement floors to the cast iron and woodwork on their aisles and in the café. They keep it classy and clean and when you walk in … you just feel … good! Plus a little healthy since you know it’s mostly organic or local or somehow saving the world!?!
I’m a huge fan of their hot sandwiches and the smoothies! I’ve come here for lunch a few times, and to get select groceries and produce that I know will be the best quality. I love all the cheese tastings and selection they offer and have yet to have a bad experience.
