Beware! As a first time home buyer, I made the mistake of turning to the BBB for a quality home inspector I could trust. I found Accurate Inspection Services on the Better Business Bureau’s website, as an A+ accredited home inspector (please read my review of Accurate Inspection Services). After hiring Mr. Scott, sole proprietor of Accurate Inspection Services, I learned that he is a liar, he is not certified by InterNACHI as he claims, and he does not honor his Refund and Exchange Policy (which I will attempt to attach a picture of) which was publicized on the BBB website at the time of service, and during the first month of the complaint process, but has since been removed by the BBB. The Better Business Bureau stood idly by, acting as a powerless mediator while Mr. Scott channeled lie after lie through their complaint process. Mr. Scott has violated 7 of the 8 principles BBB list as their Standard of Trust and Code of Business Practice, to which adherence is supposedly required in order for a business to gain and retain their BBB accreditation. Not only has the BBB removed evidence of Mr. Scott’s refund policy in the midst of my complaint (which I pleaded with the BBB to hold their accredited business accountable to), but they also have continued to accredit him, with an A+ rating. The accreditation and rating is grossly deceptive. Never again will I turn to the BBB for direction to a business I can trust, and I urge you to be leery as well. Per the BBB’s policy, you will never see this review on their website because I filed a complaint with BBB against Accurate Inspection Services. The BBB’s policy is file a complaint OR post a review. I chose to file a complaint because at the time I thought the BBB possessed some level of integrity and influence to encourage Mr. Scott to honor his Refund Policy. I was wrong. I learned the hard way as a new homeowner. Hopefully, you, the reader, won’t make the same mistakes I did, starting with trusting the BBB.
Note: A single star was given because at least one star is required as a rating. Zero stars best reflects my rating of the Better Business Bureau.

BBB of Northeast California in West Sacramento has refused to give a fair and reasonable rating to West Coast Heating and Air Conditioning in Turlock. I have a judgement against West Coast Air for $ 635 which had to be paid by their bond company. I received the check just today. At this writing and for weeks and weeks prior, West Coast Air’s contractors license has been suspended and they have no bond. That is easily checked here:
I asked BBB to rate them an F way back in July, after all, their license was suspended and they had no bond. At this writing BBB still shows No Rating. It would take BBB five minutes to see that they have no license and no bond. I just don’t understand BBB’s inaction on such a case as this. If they were truly concerned about educating the public about businesses, they certainly should have given West Coast an F rating long ago.

I think by now people know all about the play-​to-​pay scheme the Better Business Bureau has been playing on small businesses for years. In short, all a business has to do to get a BBB accreditation and an ‘A’ grade is pay the BBB an annual fee and that’s about it. It’s essentially paying to get good grades.

So why am I giving the Better Business Bureau three stars out of five? A few years ago, I had a problem with an unscrupulous business. The guy was a BBB accredited member and had paid his dues to get the BBB plaque. After a seven week complaint process, he did agree to a partial refund. I credit the BBB with intervening on my behalf to get some of my money back. Over the past few years, if I’ve had problems with the way a business has behaved, the BBB has been there to assist me. Sometimes they were able to get the issue resolved, other times not so much.
Despite the recent scandal plaguing the BBB, they do have a long and honorable history of advocating on behalf of customers who have been ripped-​off by unethical businesses. So, yes, please do file a complaint with the BBB if you’ve been ripped off, especially if it is a BBB accredited business. Don’t count the BBB out just yet. You could get your problem resolved.

These people continually call my business, wanting me to pay and sign up with them, and that it will help «my exposure» and «ratings» within the business community. I thought they were watchdogs, not harrassing sales people. When I told them, «no thank you», they kept asking me questions and wouldn’t stop. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and they said my conversation was being recorded, so that I should be careful what I say? WTF?
Unilocal is the new BBB. Time to get with the times, ancient relics. Your whole operation smells very fishy.

I do not know if BBB is trustworthy. I filed a complaint about a dealership and my complaint isnt even in their website, even if I have a complaint number… yeah, heard BBB is accepting «donations» from establishments. And once they are a member, they will be graded AA even if tons of complaints are being filed… nice, BBB is a fraud… dont know why some companies are proud of being rated «A» by the BBB… it stands for BUNCH OF BULLSHITS AND BRIBERY!
