Great country store that sells local honey and pickled everything… but also pies. I strongly recommend a chicken pie. Quite literally the best chicken pie I have ever eaten. Friendly service. Well worth a visit when visiting the wilds of Maine.

Hungry Hollow is a destination within itself. We just bought an 1824 water powered mill just a few miles from the store. We have been spending time there every week as we work and play in our amazing property and make ready to move there. At this point it seems we spend an equal amount of time at «Hungry Hollow». The chocolate chip cookies are just phenomenal. All varieties of cookies are great but if you like chocolate chip you’ll soon be addicted. In fact, we went down this past Tuesday morning to pick up a couple of things. When our granddaughter heard that we were going she told us to make sure we buy two more packages of chocolate chips because we were going to need them for the ride home. Shirley, the owner and natural foods baking wizard is just as sweet as her pies. The others that work their are also just as friendly. It’s really like stopping in to see the West Paris baking elves fast at their happy work making great fresh entrées, soups, deserts and baked goods. This is really a must go to destination. Go out of your way to visit a spell and partake of the magic inside.

GREAT food, supplements, baked goods and gift area with candles, books etc — a healthy stop with delicious food! We passed by here for years and never stopped until a friend told us about their selection of organic snacks and home made entrees and baked good to go. Shirley, the owner, is amazing — the picture of health who is living proof that eating well keeps you healthy and young. Ask her about her mom who will be 100 in October and still lives at home, and in great shape for her age. The chicken pot pie is wall-to-wall chicken, add you own veggies — and get an extra container of gravy to heat up with those leftovers. There are freezers with many of the entrees and side orders frozen to go. I frequently see new things to try in the realm of ‘all natural’ snacks and drinks, and supplements at a reasonable price. This is a wonderful stop that is fun and good for you!

I have a friend who brought me a pie saying that it was«the best blueberry pie ever!». Now I do the baking for our small pub and am somewhat a snob when it comes to pies. This blueberry pie was awesome but even more incredible was the strawberry rhubarb pie if only because of my personal taste preferences. I simply adore strawberry rhubarb pie. We were at the pub and two of the staff initially only wanted to try a bite. Within seconds there were groans of pure satisfaction and everyone had their own piece which they were not sharing! There were remarks about needing a cigarette afterwards. This is a hidden gem clearly and it is easy to overlook. Don’t miss it you will regret it.

One of the best chicken pot pies I’ve ever had. This place is easy to miss and sort of looked closed even thought it was open. We picked up a frozen chicken pot pie to heat up when we got home and it was amazing. We have tried the macaroni and cheese and soft pretzels as well and both were very good. Different parts of the little house that makes up the store have different items. The refrigerated/frozen foods seem to be in the main area along with some gift items and then a different room is full of cookies and baked goods. The smells were wonderful. Definitely worth a stop.

My parents have a small vacation house nearby that I’ve been going to since I was a baby, and Hungry Hollow has become one of our family’s most enjoyable destinations in the area. The highlights are excellent baked goods, desserts of all kinds, mac n cheese, and looking at her toys/decorations. Hungry Hollow is conveniently located on Rt. 26, which is the way most vacationers from the south get to Bethel/Sunday River/Mt. Abrams. This makes it a great place to stock up for a weekend on the way up, or to bring back a sample of Maine to those unfortunate enough not to join on the trip. To keep this review short, I’ll just briefly give my top recommendations. –Pies are the #1 thing to get since she makes top notch crust and topping, with amazingly fresh fillings. You can can blueberry, strawberry rhubarb, peach/raspberry, etc. depending on what’s available. We affectionately call her«pie lady» because these are so good, and not once has a pie ever gone unfinished. –Bars, cookies and whoopie pies — She has an assortment of bars(rocky road, key lime, coconut, etc.) and whoopie pies(chocolate or blondies with regular or mocha fillings). All are delicious and make a great snack to hold you off until eating the pie you just bought. –Mac n Cheese/Sandwiches — The mac n cheese comes in a couple sizes with light crunchy top. Makes a great side dish for a group/family dinner. The sandwiches(I usually get chicken salad) are cheap and come on thick, fresh bread. –Fudge — I’m not big on fudge, but it’s really good here. –Seasonal items — The desserts she has vary… If you go there at the right time, she may have just made a batch of the best apple cobbler you’ll ever eat. –Walk around — If you can pry yourself away from her food selections, take a walk around the back of her store to look at her toys and decorations. Being 25, I don’t have much of a desire to buy these things, but it’s always fun to look at, and in my mind represents what an old fashioned country store should be. If you are driving by, I highly recommend stopping for a few minutes!
