Thrifty Rent A Car

The website is a bit deceptive. I selected the“Manager’s Special” which is supposed to be a great taste for a great car but you don’t know ahead of time what you will be receiving. The West Palm Beach location simple had a slew of sub compact cars lines up against the fence and told me that I could select any of the cars asking the fence. The website should just say Subcompact instead of deciding customers into thinking that they may get something nice as a surprise. The only surprise was that it was a Subcompact vehicle.
Also, the car I selected from the Manager’s Special selection of vehicles had Neverlost system in the car. BUT, when I called to ask them about it, I was told that I would be charged$ 16.99/day if I used it! That’s horrendous! Since the car I selected had it in the car already which was a Manager’s Special, why are they trying to charge me to use it?
The only reason i have 2 stars was because it was a basic rental vehicle at a basic price. Don’t expect more from them.

Well just know its policy you have to have a credit card. My wife and I are locals. Neither of us have credit cards just debit. I guess it is their policy that you must have a credit card. No debit cards and no family member credit cards. We had a reservation for about a week but it never said we must have a credit card. The day we were suppose to leave we were told we can’t get our reserved car. They said other enterprises would honor our reservations but that was not true and we were asked to pay twice as much as our reservation. We went with budget after failing with three enterprises. Start with budget rentals and save the hassle!

For the price you can’t beat them! They ran out of cars for the one we rented so we got a tiny upgrade which was great. Then we took our car back before midnight (a day early) and they didn’t charge us that next day! Awesome. We always use thrifty.

With Thrifty sharing a space with Dollar Rent a Car, it made me a little nervous… plus, these reviews did too, but do not let these not so great experiences defer you from using Thrifty. I have a review from Dollar from my visit to LA last fall, and I will say I will never use them, or Hertz again… Thrifty, absolutely!
After shopping through websites and «deals» I decided on a mid-​size car through AAA Chicago Motorclub, it was the best deal I found. There was a minimal line when I arrived around 1pm on a Sunday, no hard «sell» for insurance, sunpass, pre-​pay for gas… NOTHING, it was quick, simple, and painless. I only had two cars to choose from, so I went with a Kia Optima. I had NO problems my entire 5 day trip. The return was easy peasy as well. My experience was good here, and I wouldn’t think twice to rent from Thrifty again.

Thrifty charged me over $ 100 in admin. fees for tolls ranging from 50 cents to $ 1.40. They charge $ 15 per toll! Most of the tolls are on the major roads to airports, etc, and so difficult to avoid. They have a service for $ 11 daily to cover tolls too, but that would have been almost $ 100 as well! There is a class action lawsuit being prepared against them and the «toll and violation collector» companies. Beware and find out the policy of the company before you rent.

We arrived late and were very happy because they upgraded us immediately. The staff was fabulous. Thanks for remembering the customer comes first.

Bit of a mixed bag on this one. Check in was painfully slow. I waited in line for about 20 minutes to be seen. The problem was there were two attendants helping when I first arrived and there were a few people in line in front of me. Then when one of them finished with a customer, the attendant took off as he said I will be right back. Well 15 minutes plus later, the second attendant never returned, so the lone helper had to process everyone. The price was right on the car though. And the return process was easy and pretty quick. So I would use them again, just hope that the check in experience goes smoother.

Had to applaud the staff when we arrived to pick up our car. There was an unruly customer who was clearly looking for attention. They handled her like pros! My NYPD husband had to shake your workers hands for being so professional. He legitimately thought the unruly customer was a crazy person!

Rate for the car was excellent and that was a major factor for me. At the airport, there was just a single agent at the counter and progress was extremely slow. Of course, the agent spent a lot of time attempting to upsell each customer to a larger car, fuel plan, etc. I suspect they are on commission. At the car lot, I checked out several of the vehicles and, since I needed some space for two grandkids, selected a small minivan. Sadly, it was rather filthy inside but, hey, it was pretty cheap. Once on the road, the vehicle shook pretty badly on the highway at anything over 60mph. Fortunately, I didn’t plan much highway travel so didn’t go through the hassle of trying to get a replacement vehicle. Overall, good rates, fairly crummy vehicles.

I wouldn’t ever come back to this establishment … It was a horrible experience! We first found that they had a great rate online so we booked it and waited at the airport for the shuttle to pick us up… Hertz, Enterprise, even Budget passed by 100x doing shuttle rounds before Thrify/​Dollar showed up! We finally get to the office after wasting 30 min or more of our trip just waiting for them… The office was nothing impressive and felt extremely cheap… Which okay, I’m fine dealing with a crappy location, but the service was the complete kicker! We tell the lady about our reservation and she was extremely rude… No customer service whatsoever! She ends up telling us that it’s $ 13 per day for anyone else to drive the car (Budget will waive that fee with a Triple A or Costco membership by the way) and then tells us we are going to hit lots of toll booths on our way from West Palm to Fort Lauderdale so we should also buy the $ 10 a day Sunpass, and so on and so forth trying to up sell us. Finally she runs my card (well because my card is super annoyingly sensitive to possible identity theft, the card declined thinking it was fraud since I was out of state) anyway I called the card service and they removed the block so I told the lady we were good to go now and to run the card again, she said there policy is to only run a card once! If it declines once, for any reason then Oh Well! I asked to see the manager, took foreverrrr to get the rude manager to come out who was even less helpful that the unhelpful cashier! So literally, we had no way to rent the car we’d booked and had now spent over an hour here… The manager said there policy couldn’t be overridden and that our reservation wasn’t redeemable now. It was insane how unwilling they were to help or accommodate. We went to Budget– they were quick, friendly, and super accommodating! The problem with Thrifty is their poor customer service and horrible policy!

After reviewing all the negative reviews I was hesitated to rent from Thrifty. However most the rental companies around the PBI airport aren’t doing much better. I ended up reserved a minivan and the pick up procedures went pretty smooth (almost midnight). When we got out to get our van, the manager was very generous that he offered us a free upgrade to a full size van that comes with DVD player and better entertainment system. Can’t thank him enough because his suggestions made our drive to disneyworld so easy, no more screaming grumpy kids in the backseat ! When we returned the van two weeks later, the shuttle driver helped us with our luggages on and off the truck! I guess we are just lucky that we get to deal with a better crew!

Well now I know why it’s called Thrifty!!! Although the prices are good in the future I will pay a few dollars more! They told me to pick between three cars, the man helping me on the lot did not speak English. All three cars were dirty inside. I chose what seemed the roomiest between the three and asked for it to be re-​cleaned as there were ashes which he flicked off with his finger. When the car was given to me it was no cleaner. I came home and wiped it down with wipes and lysol, I drove it through the car wash on my own but its is so sticky on the outside with whatever that the soap stuck to it! No one went over the car with me to mark off any of the dings or show me how everything works inside. I know it’s a rental care but yuck. Better to pay a few more dollars a day. I would not reccomend the Palm Beach Airport Thrify! Can’t wait to return the car.

After reserving a car about a month in advance of our west palm arrival, I arrive to the desk at the airport at about 6:30pm and am greeted with basically a shut-​down, vacated desk. All of the other car rental desks fully staffed with people, thrifty/​dollar? a ghost town. Nothing but a little sign saying we apologize, please take a shuttle to the location. Who wants to risk that and showing up to the location to find god knows what. I promptly cancelled, walked 5ft over to the fully staffed Budget Rental desk and was on my way in minutes, at a cheaper rate! What a joke… I recommend Budget, Enterprise, or Avis at this airport — they had the most shuttles running at the quickest intervals. Don’t pay a dime for their gas policies either, GPS on the way back to a gas station (conveniently located (not!) a few miles away. Gotta love how they do that to try and trip you up into not finding a fueling station so they can charge you $ 10 a gallon. Anyway — Budget was fine… steer clear of Thrifty (aka Dollar).

Never again, worst car rental company we have ever been to. We paid a fortune to rent a mustang convertible once we arrived at West Palm Beach. Most years we rent with Enterprise (who are by the way, always awesome), but unfortunately their convertibles were sold out. When we got to Thrifty, they gave us a filthy 2014 Ford Mustang convertible. There were hundreds of scratches and dings on the car. It had almost 50K miles on it. It was half full, yet they charged us as if they had it on full when we picked it up. There was no washer wiper fluid either. It was absolutely disgusting. They never washed it. But the worst part was charging a fortune for this piece of garbage. When we complained, they said, «well that’s all we have.» I said «well how about adjusting your rates.» Don’t rent from them, they are awful.

The night before Thanksgiving, I arrived here a little after 11pm to pick up a «compact size or larger car.» Because I was traveling by myself, the kid behind the desk snickered and said «aww, I know you don’t want the mini van!» I agreed and told him that I would prefer something else. What followed next still irks me.
First, the amount they wanted to charge to «downgrade» was completely unreasonable. In fact, they wanted to charge 50% more for something that should have cost less (and that would have cost less if I selected it when initially making the reservation). Also, it’s not like minivans were all they had left — plenty of other vehicles were also on the lot.
Second, they were predatory. It was almost midnight the night before Thanksgiving, and they knew that I had no other options. It was too late to book via an online site like Kayak or Hotwire. Plus, I had no easy way of getting to other airport’s other car rental agencies, which were not in walking distance. And I also just wanted to get home after a long day of travel.
Third, they were condescending and mean. For example, the manager I asked to speak to acted like she was doing me a favor renting the vehicle at all. «I don’t have to rent to you,» she said more than a few times. She also pressed me for information that was none of their business (e.g., who I was there to visit) and told me when I became irritated at this that she «didn’t think I was going to have a good Thanksgiving.»
Fourth, they lied. After I went outside to select a minivan, I came back in to get that manager’s name to follow up later with a complaint. When I asked for it, the agents at the desk said that she had left and that they didn’t know her name. According to the sign in front of her office, however, her name is «Trina.» (Hi, Trina!)
Fortunately, this story has a happy ending. The minivan actually came in handy, saving the day for a friend who needed help bringing home a Black Friday TV. However, it was a very frustrating rental experience, and I would not do business here again.

Rented a van from Thrifty to visit our daughter at UCF. Our own van is 8 years old and runs a bit rough. We used our AAA discount to rent a van for the trip. We showed up around 7:30 a.m. to pick up the van. No one was in line ahead of us so we had immediate service. Aside from the customer service rep trying to sell us upgrades the process went smoothly. Delighted to find out that the rate we were charged was about $ 8 less than the online quote because we live in the area and didn’t have to pay an «airport use» tax. Rental van ran well and was very comfortable. Returned the van around 9 p.m. I had jury duty the next day or I would have kept the van until the next day. The return process went as quickly as the pick up. Would definitely use Thrifty again!

All went well, easy pick up and rental with a quick shuttle from the terminal to the car. I realized during my trip that I had no clue as to where to return the car so I did a little research and could find nothing. I even called the customer service and was hung up on. You see, I like to be fully prepared when traveling… Directions, addresses, contact numbers… Thrifty seems to not agree. Even the rental agreement had a vague info for returning the vehicle. So I ended up driving to the airport and just winging it… Lo and behold, there were signs and easy instructions to get to the return location. Another easy shuttle to the airport and I was all set! Despite bad reviews I’ve seen online for dollar/​thrifty, my experience was just fine.

I shopped around — visiting Florida in February like everyone else from up north, you can always get a car — but ccan you get a reasonable one? It was the cheapest — adn the counter guy didnt push too hard for the upgrades and extra insurance, etc. They lose a star… BECAUSE… I had thought I left my wallet on the counter and after driving an hour away — there was NO WAY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE COUNTER IN THE AIRPORT. you can only talk to corporate off-​site people. Not one person could help me see if the counter had my wallet. I was told to call lost and found monday to friday — 9 to 5.

Easy to find, service with a smile, and a clean shuttle. Tips well-​deserved.
