Specialties
The Palm Beach Zoo is home to nearly 800 animals from North, Central and South America, Australia and Asia. With more than 23-acres of lush tropical habitat to explore, there are surprises around every corner — stare in wonder at two 45-foot tall Mayan pyramid replicas, take a spin on the wildlife carousel, splash in the interactive play fountain, chill out at the Tropics Café, our full-service restaurant overlooking beautiful Baker Lake, and connect with our amazing animals and keepers at over 60 keeper talks and wildlife presentations per week! The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society exists to inspire people to act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world.
History
Established in 1969.
The Zoo was originally opened in the mid-1950s by Paul Dreher, the City of West Palm Beach’s first Parks & Rec Director as a botanical garden with a few chickens and goats. By 1969, the Zoological Society of the Palm Beaches, Inc, a 501©(3) not-for-profit organization was founded to assist with the operational funding of the Zoo. The Zoological Society of the Palm Beaches exists to protect wildlife and wildlife habitat, and to inspire others to value and conserve the natural world. We advance our conservation mission through endangered species propagation, education, health and wellness, field research, and conservation medicine. Our sustainable and responsible business practices and local, national and global partnerships enable the Palm Beach Zoo to support national and international conservation, species survival, and habitat preservation.
