Pizza 23 West

Found this along my drive back from a business meeting and was met by friendly staff and delicious pizza & garlic knots !
I am glad that I took the advice from other Unilocal reviewers who raved about the food and staff .
Top notch! Looking forward to stopping in again soon.

RIchie & Penny are going to laugh when they read this review — as they predicted, I didn’t write about them the second I got back to New York, but 2 weeks later.
My uncle owns a place upstate in Franklin, NY but my boyfriend and I were staying in Oneonta. After a long day of driving, we were desperate for something to eat that wasn’t fast food. Lo and behold, Unilocal led us to Pizza 23, and we’ll never look back.
The space itself is cozy, and you can tell is a family run place. I felt right at home when I entered. Not to be outdone — the food is OUTSTANDING. The boy and I definitely over-​ordered but I have no regrets. Everything was scrumptious. My favorite thing we ordered? The garlic knots. You MUST TRY the garlic knots –they were the best I’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside, soft and doughy on the inside with an amazing garlic flavor. And the sauce … oh where do I begin about that delicious tomato sauce that came with the knots, on the pizza, and the pasta? It was delightful — honestly, I would’ve bought a jar if they sold them.
In all honesty though, the best part of that night was talking to Richie and Penny. What wonderful, delightful, positive people. They are so proud of what they do and it shows — top notch friendly service, and the best food around. Richie is from the Bronx — so you know that he isn’t kidding around with his Italian food.
Richie didn’t know it, but the boyfriend and I had just spent hours burying a family pet, and we were really down in the dumps when we got to Pizza 23. We left glowing because of our experience at Pizza 23. I’m now just counting down the days until I visit again and make a stop here.

I’m new to the area and was looking for my «go to» pizza place. I think I found it. The staff was very nice, helpful, and welcoming. They have a wide variety of items on their menu. It’s not your typical greasy pizza/​sub shop. The food was outstanding and their prices are reasonable. I’ll definately be going back!

Great place. Pizza was fantastic and they were very accommodating of our team. We called after opening ceremonies and they efficiently accommodated our group. Fresh hand tossed pies with minimal wait. If your really in a rush get a slice to go!

We went to All Star Village for baseball and found this gem of a pizza restaurant on Unilocal.In one word this place is AWESOME. Penny & Ritchie are the real deal, they took care of 40 of us (parents and kids), the food was great and can’t wait to tell future teams that this is a MUST stop. Give this Pizza 23 West a try, you won’t be disappointed. Elmhurst Explosion will be back!

My family is in town for our sons baseball tournament and once we got into town, we immediately started looking for a place to eat. We checked Unilocal,saw this place and decided to check it out. We had just arrived from Manhattan so I was curious to see if the pizza was comparable to NYC. It was just as good if not better. The wings were also good. Very friendly staff, and we will be returning before we leave!

Thanks, Unilocal.We wanted a casual place after the all-​day Hall of Fame ceremonies. The pizza was fantastic — great crust and loved the fresh ricotta. Good cold local beers on tap. And the salads were fresh and tasty. Treated like we were regulars. Nice people.

We were visiting the area and couldn’t find anything open at 9:30 on the Fourth of July. We happened to see this place open and decided to give it a shot. Boy were we happy. We were so happy with how hospitable the owners were when we walked in so close to closing. We never felt rushed or like a pain. They were nothing but kind and warm which was so nice. The food was outstanding!!! Couldn’t stop eating the garlic knots and the sauce was the best I have ever had. A combination of wonderful staff, and great food makes this place a hidden gem! I will be sure to stop in anytime I am in the area. If you are considering this wonderful little place, just stop in. You won’t be disappointed

Penny, Ritchie & staff totally took care of us again! Our bus full of just graduated high school kids from Utah are extremely happy with the delicious New York style pizza we just ate. This place is the best & we can’t wait to visit them again next year. One of our favorite stops!

Wow… this place was AMAZING. I grew up on Long Island so when I moved here nearly 12 years ago I missed NY pizza and good Italian food. This place gets it right… tastes just like home! I had the eggplant parm with ravioli and it was cooked to perfection… everything was perfect… garlic knots were so good. For dessert we had zeppoles and they tasted JUST like the ones we used to get at the feast. Do yourself a favor and stop here for lunch or dinner… it truly is a wonderful place… and very friendly! Thank you for a wonderful meal!

We discovered this through Unilocal and were absolutely delighted. We have a place in Cooperstown and considerr ourselves spoiled by living in New Jersey and NYC when it comes to pizza and Italian food. This place is friendly, reasonably priced and the highest quality when it comes to the pizza and garlic knots we tried. The owners were hospitable and eager to please. If we had any criticism it was the beverages (limited to Pepsi products).
We will go back again for sure.
Finding a place like this is a real treat and it is with a detour to try it.

Consistently the best place I’ve ordered from here, by far. And by consistent, I mean awesome! Everything I’ve ordered has been the best I’ve had here in oneonta. Pizza and otherwise. Not to mention the welcoming atmosphere is great and I’ve spoken to one of the owners and he (rich) makes amazing food and cares about his customers. I absolutely love their pizza. Their wings are great, garlic knots, pizza (especially), baked ziti, everything is outstanding. Don’t waste your time anywhere else in oneonta. Go here. Order from here. You won’t regret it!

This place is great. We have been coming to the area for years and this is by far our favorite place to dine. The food is not only excellent, but there is so much of it you will want to be either very hungry or ask for a to go box. The owners could not have been nicer either. Even though there were many other guests in the restaurant they both went out of their way to make us feel welcome and stopped by many times to see if we needed anything. I have found my new favorite place!

We got a card for this restaurant in the lobby of the hotel we were staying in and needed something to feed the family. We got a couple of pizzas, one just cheese and the other bacon and pineapple. The pizza was delicious, and huge, but I expected more toppings for having to pay $ 2 per additional topping to add them.

Pizza 23 West is owned & operated by a couple, Penny & Richie. I worked with them at an italian restaurant before where Richie was the pizza guy and I was THRILLED they decided to open a place on their own. The only downfall… its 2 hrs from my home!
There are times it is standing room only but I promise it is well worth it! Richie’s pizza is comparable to any pizza I have had in NYC and Penny is great at the front of house.
Today I sampled the fresh made eggplant parm and it was great! I had the linguine with red clam sauce for dinner with a complimentary salad. This salad has lettuce, chopped onions, tomatoes, green olives, a peppercini pepper and shredded cheese over top. Yummy!
Pizza 23 West is a must try.

Great place.
The owner and staff are very nice. They even have discounts for people who are out-​of-​work, suffer from disabilities, or served in war.
And the prices are already good.
And the pizza is very good. They have a variety of pizza’s including an award winning heart-​shaped one.
Their pizzas are italian style — thin crust, not a ton of sauce, good amount of olive oil.
I highly recommend this place to others and plan on going back next time I am in Oneonta.
