Great toy section for the kids. Took my 2 year old in there today. They are always so nice there. I bought him a toy airplane and the owner gave him a free puzzle that was worth twice as much as the airplane. Reminds me of being taken to a 5&10 when I was a kid and being able to pick out one toy. Local character at its best. A destination of choice.

Morning Silver has a bewildering mix of items. It feels like they are trying to be a kids novelty and toy shop, a handmade arts and crafts boutique and a new age/earthy store all at once. The result is a confusing array of merchandise that makes browsing and spotting what you want more of a chore than a delight. Every time I leave this shop I think they would benefit from hiring a good visual merchandiser to help them cohesively display their wares so customers could find what they would like easily. Maybe its just me but when I am looking at marshmallow air guns a yoga chanting CD playing in the background and the smell of patchouli scented soy candles filling the air just don’t positively add to my shopping experience.

Chains are for ships and malls. Unique local stores are for neighborhoods and Morning Silver provides is a cool little place that provides a pleasant shopping experience for anyone visiting West Newton. The store is divided roughly into three sections — cards, gifty stuff for adults, and toys for the kiddies. Anyone just stopping by will immediately find lots of things they want and a bunch of very nice surprises too. I came by during the holidays to do some shopping and walked out with about half of the names on my list finished… just by wandering through the store and browsing. Although packed with merchandise the shelves and aisles are carefully arranged and lend themselves to some very productive impulse buying. Best of all… everyone was really, really happy with their gifts. My half-hour spent in the store was clearly the most productive and efficient shopping trip I had had in years. Staff is very helpful, and although the prices are a bit high, they’re worth it, based on the quality of the stock. I’ll make sure to stop back for birthday, holiday and just about any other shopping occasion. It’s definitely worth a trip from anywhere.

It’s one of West Newton’s best kept secrets. Morning Silver has some wonderful items… pottery, crafty stuff, jewelry, scarves, greeting cards, magnets, candles, incense. It’s sort of a New Agey place, but it’s got something for everyone. I do lots of gift shopping here, but I almost always leave with something for myself. One of my favorite stores around. It’s also really affordable. Almost nothing is outrageously priced.
