This is truly spectacular in the spring time when the camas and other native plants are in bloom. This small nature preserve is the first purchased by the Nature Conservancy back in it’s infancy. Set right in the neighborhoods of West Linn it’s the site of many nature walks. The walk I took was guided by a volunteer with the Clackamas River Basin Council and definitely worth the hour or so we spent(we could have taken longer but then there is always an incentive to go back again and again. No dogs allow to preserve the natural setting. April and May are the best times for wildflowers. Check it out!

This nature preserve is a hidden gem! I really don’t know how many other people who live in the Portland metro area know about this place. It is right above the 205 freeway, but so high up that you can’t hear the traffic. It’s small enough that you can’t get lost, yet the habitat and vegetation is so varied that you feel that you are in a far-removed wilderness. The camassia bulbs bloom in late April or May and the wet meadows come alive with all kinds of flowers. Lots of trilliums in March. You can see eagles soaring. Definitely worth going a bit out of your way to visit!
