Custom Moving & Storage

Custom Movers did a fabulous job on our move! They were above and beyond the BEST! They flexed when our move dates changed and were super efficient and polite to work with over three days of packing, loading and delivery! The guys worked really well with us and each other an coordinated every step of the way. They moved some very heavy furniture and a Steinway Grand Piano without a hitch! I HIGHLY recommend this team. What a bitter disappointment :(
My wife and I used Custom to move from Barnard, VT to Lebanon, NH last year, and had a fantastic experience. The three guys who moved us were friendly, VERY professional, prepared to handle anything we threw at them, and were very fast. (You can read our review of that move, here:

So, when we found out that Custom also moved folks all the way to NYC, it was a no-​brainer when we wanted to move from Lebanon, back to the city.
The three guys we had originally were gone. Instead, a husband-​and-​wife team showed up. Though they had a large enough van, they were barely prepared, in terms of supplies and equipment, for what we had to move, which in this case, was a very SMALL subset of our total belongings (we moved out of a house, and into a studio in Chelsea). Whenever any item was too awkward or bulky, I was required to give verbal permission to move it, and the man waived every responsibility for anything that might happen if he moved it.
Sure enough, when we got to NYC, a few very expensive and important pieces of furniture were in fact damaged, and when I confronted the mover about it, all he had for me, was blame and recrimination.
Multiple movers have moved this furniture all over the eastern seaboard, including three dodgy Russians who barely spoke any english. None of them had any problem moving this furniture, not even the last crew from Custom. What’s more, I PAID for $ 20k of insurance to cover any damages. So, why, when something gets damaged, am I only getting push-​back and excuses?
What’s more, when the couple got to new york with our stuff, it took them OVER AN HOUR (parked square in the middle of 24^th street, I might add), to decide what to do with our stuff. Then, it took them another THREE AND A HALF HOURS to get it out of their truck and up to our apartment. Half way through this process, I had to go to the building management to ask for an extension on keeping the loading dock doors open, and ended up going to the basement and grabbing armloads of our stuff MYSELF, and bringing it up, while the pair were doing god-​knows-​what. I literally did ¹⁄₃ of the moving job myself.
As a gesture of generosity for that, we were offered $ 100 off the move cost. Big deal. You’ve already cost us hundreds in furniture repairs, offered no recourse through the insurance, and BLAMED ME, to boot. Thanks, but no thanks.
I’ll never use Custom for anything ever again.

I can no longer recommend Custom Moving for anything after the shambles that was our move from Lebanon to NYC. I’ll only say one thing: If they send you three friendly, responsible men, use them. If they send you a husband and wife team, RUN, DO NOT WALK, THE OTHER WAY.

We could not be more pleased with Custom Moving and Storage. They moved us from Ct to Nh. Everything was handled professionally and on time. Mike, Trevor, Evan, and Chris were kind, considerate, and very personable.

We already had a few pieces of furniture in the Nh house which needed to be moved to different rooms before bringing in the things from Ct. No problem. They kindly moved everything we needed. All the Ct furniture was brought and set up carefully. They positioned furniture and in some cases re-​positioned it when we changed our minds.
We have a baby grand piano. When they took it apart in Ct, they discovered the locking block was broken and had apparently been taped together in some prior move. Yikes! That means the piano could have collapsed at any time! When they delivered the piano in Nh, they’d made a new locking block and repaired the cracked one just so we’d have a spare. Fantastic!
When the guys finished and drove out with the truck, they stopped and Mike got out. The tires had made small ruts in our gravel driveway. Mike goes into the garage, gets a shovel, and fills the ruts. I mean, who does that? So, very very nice.
Custom Moving and Storage has my highest recommendation. Thank you for a great move!!!

Custom Moving and Storage made my mom’s move go very well. Their staff was very professional: thorough, timely, as well as extremely friendly and considerate.
