Computers By Campus

The men that work here are very understanding. They diagnosed my computer issue quickly and discovered I had a fried motherboard. They understand on a college campus students aren’t the most wealthy and accidents do happen. They didn’t charge me insane prices. And they treated me very fairly. If you need an inexpensive repair and you want the job done right the first time. This is the place.

Was not at all pleased with the repair I received ¹⁄₂₀₁₄ from Computers by Campus.
My original problem: a stripped power jack.
My problems with the repair:
— It cost $ 200
— My computer was in the shop for about a week longer than the worker originally said (this could have been from the massive snowstorm, but was still annoying)
–The worker I talked to said the work was not done on-​premise, rather it was taken to «a guy» who would do the repair.
–When I got the computer back, the charging was fine BUT the fan made a loud noise (think cell phone vibrating loudly) as if it were hitting something – this was a new problem I had never had before.
— ⁴⁄₁₀ screws from the bottom of my computer were missing, one additional screw was loose and fell out the day after I got it back.
–Although I bought a new jack for my specific model and asked they put it in, the worker told me the repair guy would use his own parts gratis. This was okay, until I realized when I got my computer back that what he did was install a jack not usually used in my model, and splice the old cord to a new cord with a piece that fit the new jack.
–This splice (already looked fishy/​unprofessional/​sealed with electrical tape and heat shrink wrap) gave out after 1.5 weeks. At this point I was too broke and desperate to go back, so I gave it to a friend who had initially been too worried about messing up the computer to try to fix it. He cut the splice open and saw that the two wires from the new and old chargers were touching, causing my charger to short-​circuit. We repaired that with yellow duct tape and it works much better.
That said, the man in the shop on pickup day (different guy) said the repair had a «lifetime warranty.» However, I was afraid to take it back based on the butchery they’d done the first time, and the fact that I’d never received any physical guarantee of that warranty.
All in all, avoid. My mother got a cracked iPhone screen repaired here for $ 70 several months ago and it is still working extremely well, but my personal experience here has been nothing but problematic.
