Terrible sushi! Yuck. And extremely overpriced!!! The fish is not fresh. I tried this place once and will never return. Bad sushi! Go to nori, crazy rockin, or hara for good priced sushi!

Friend and I dropped by before clubbing. We had less than an hour, so we settled for this as it wasn’t busy at all. We should’ve taken the hint. We both ordered the tempura udon. It was a jip. I’m pretty sure that they served us instant udon for $ 12. The meal came in a plastic bowl, and the soup base was citrusy. quite similar to that of instant udon that I have had before. The tempura was mushy. All in all, the meal wasn’t THAT bad, but extremely overpriced for what it was.

Before a night of drinking we needed to get some food into our system. We were told by some locals on the street that we should check out this sushi joint across the way. As we approached the restaurant, I noticed that the surrounding restaurants were busy. This restaurant was completely empty though. I should have taken the hint. What I do like about this place is the dining area. There’s indoor and outdoor seating for everyone. The décor has a little bit of everything: exposed brick, stainless steel and tiling. It looks super modern and hip. There’s a sushi bar and an alcohol bar. The service was alright. For not having anyone there, the server was quite slow and didn’t really check up on us. Almost like they hung out in the back room the whole time. During my visit, we got 3 bottles of «hot» sake for $ 11.00 a bottle. Every bottle was not hot. It was lukewarm. Kind of gross, that middle temperature. The sake had good flavor, however the middle temp was the biggest turn off. My friend and I shared a roll and took the servers advice and got the Oiroke Role for $ 15.00. Salmon, spicy crab and avocado wrapped in cucumber served with Ponzu sauce. It came out looking like a flower. The plate was garnished with some kind of radish shaving in the middle. The roll was a cool concept. Instead of nori lining the sushi, it was literally cucumber wrapping. The cucumber was also crunchy and fresh. What fell apart for me was the spicy crab. It was watery, maybe from the ponzu sauce, but super soggy texture. Not appealing at all. It kind of drowned out the avocado and salmon chunks. I’ve been to so many sushi places in my lifetime. If compared to other joints, this wasn’t as good. I kind of expected more from them being so close to the ocean, however, many Vegas sushi joint I frequent seem to blow this away. In a town full of amazing cuisine, it’s hard to say if I’ll ever be back.

The staff are wonderful for starters. Always made my GF + I feel very welcome. We usually take our dog who is an emotional support animal. The chef has bought him a free plate of grilled chicken every time I have been + now my dog recognizes the restaurant when we pass + tries to go in. The food is really good. Particularly the albacore extreme + the spicy tuna jalapeños. I will continue to go here for many years to come + I suggest you do the same!

My husband and I had this place last night when we went to the WEHO Halloween Parade. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid… Service sucked… The food tasted like it was premade and refrigerated. Way overpriced for the quality. We wanted to throw up immediately.

Came here for some late night munchies and was very surprise at how good the sushi was. I ordered the Z Crunch roll which was by far the best sushi roll I have ever eaten. The service can be a bit slow, but that is only because there was one person working the whole restaurant. You have to give that guy some props for being the server, cashier and sushi maker all in one. The prices here are very reasonable. Expect around $ 15 for speciality rolls and under $ 10 for normal rolls. They also have a pretty good diverse drink menu so it will be pretty hard to find a drink you don’t like here.

Avoid. Horrible service – perhaps we went there when they were severely short-staffed?

My friend and I were really in the mood for sushi, so while standing on the corner of Santa Monica and Robertson, I Unilocaled it to find the closest place, and Umai was it. It wasn’t very crowded on an otherwise rockin’ Friday evening, which was concerning, but we had a seat outside and perused the extensive menu. Damn if they don’t have a Web site — what’s up with that? — so I can’t report on exactly what we ordered. But it was standard fare at first(spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail), followed by three more unusual rolls. Standard rolls were perfectly serviceable, as well they should have been. The specialty rolls were absolutely delicious. It almost doesn’t matter what they were; if these three are indicative of everything else, then everything is great. I did think it was a bit pricey for two people, which is why I’m not quite giving a fourth star. But the food was great, and I’d go back.

I came here several weeks ago on Halloween night with my friends. Obviously, with the thousands of people roaming the streets nearby, the place was pretty packed. We managed to get a table pretty quick, but it took us about 20 minutes to get a waitress(no one was making eye contact with the tables, so I had to walk to the computer where the waitresses were placing their orders). The sushi was so-so. Nothing horrible, but nothing near what I would have hoped for for 10+ dollar rolls. Their drinks were strong, but the mixing was on par with drinks my friends would make in the college apartments. Overall, I wouldn’t consider this a place to try. I am sure there are several other places in the area that can quench you sushi craving.

First time I was here with a group of friends a while back, this place seemed pretty good. This time, it wasn’t bad(pretty creative rolls) … but didn’t realize how overpriced everything is. $ 15 – 18 rolls?! That’s 2 to 3 times other places. Seriously, if it was half the price, this place would be 4 – 5 stars. At double the price, I’m knocking half the stars off. Friendly service though. Refreshing after a weekend of major LA attitude.

Halloween 2011 My girlfriend and I got to WeHo at 5pm to grab some dinner and enjoy the Halloween Carnival early. First stop Starbucks on the Corner(for her) and then I saw Umai Sushi, which I had never ate at prior and NEVER will again!!! We ordered Edamame, Two Rolls and 3 drinks for a whapping $ 98.81…included a hidden 18% gratuity that I’ve never seen on a table for two… we tipped a total of $ 10 on top by accident and I’m glad we didn’t leave more. Now, based on that I’d never go back but UNFROTUNATELY Umai Susi had one last hidden surprise for me. When the sushi arrived I took one look and thought DANGER! Fish looked Dry and Old but my girlfriend said for the prices it better be good; well it wasn’t. VERYBAD story short, 20 – 30 mins after eating I started getting lower GI issues, badly. Found a Porta Potty across from the DJ/Pavilions and spent the Next 60+ mins fighting terrible GICRAMPS /DIARRHEA and VOMITINGCHUNKS of Fish and Sushi Roll into the porta potty urinal that was so conveniently positioned for such an occasion. There are too many places to choose from in that area for food, so I advise to choose something other than Umai Sushi, unless you think my review is a hoax, and then by all means… Enjoy:) P. S. Special Thanks to the Porta Potty Engineers for their special design that allowed me to Puke without having to stand, turn around and Vomit into the same hole that I(and a few others) had just Sh! T my colon into. Very Much Appreciated.

3.5 stars – this review is based on a Halloween night experience. Of course it was a sea of people and sweat and glitter and costumes, but it was a good night. Lots to see at the 9th Annual WeHo Halloween Carnavale, so we wanted a good seat. We squeeeezed into a row of makeshift tables and ordered edamame, yellow tail sashimi, seaweed salad, and an Asian chicken salad. All were mediocre, but the cold sake and Long Island iced tea were good. We faced out onto the street and had a great view of all of the action. People kept walking by and asking if we were judging a costume contest. In a way, we were! Our server was amazing to be able to juggle the millions of demanding tables on an incredibly crowded night like this one. We got our food, drinks, and check fast. Gotta say, though, I will not return – not with all of the great Japanese places WeHo has to offer. The prices($ 23 for chicken teriyaki??) are ridiculous for the quality.

2 rolls 1 appetizer and 2 iced teas…60 bucks. What a rip and it wasn’t even good. We left hungry and irritated. Our server also took our order while she was reading/responding to a text message. It is such a shame too with it’s awesome location. You’ve got to suck pretty bad for a 1 star rating… it’s my first.

Server didn’t know anything about the sake options on the menu. Sushi was about as good as from a grocery store, but at 2−3x the price. You’re much better off going anywhere else.

Umai sushi is definitely a good place to grab some sushi in West Hollywood. Service — very welcoming and accommodating. Location — convenient and also right in the middle of all the WeHo bars and nightclubs, making it an awesome stop for dinner with friends before partying! Food — they have some really yummy rolls. you can not go here and NOT try the Inazuma roll and the Kamikaze roll. Full bar — amazing, strong, and reasonably priced drinks. their mojitos and AMFs are a plus plus plus plus! Décor — cute and simple. nothing special. but they have a lot of nice outdoor seating so you can enjoy fresh air and people watch while eating. very good place to come with friends. Price — it is bit on the pricy side so beware. but, in my opinion, i think it is well worth it. My friends and I always have sushi here when we are in WeHo! :)

I was recently stuck in West hollywood for lunch, alone with about an hour and a half to knock it out. I saw the sign for sushi, flipped abitch, found parking and walked up. The waitress explained they were not open for lunch until noon??? It was 11:40, and I didn’t have time to argue. Their lack of flexibility earns a 2 star.
