History

Established in 1994.

Resource Conservation Group, LLC got it’s start back in 1994 supplying high-quality reclaimed lumber to discerning customers in Japan. We spent several years building a nationwide network of suppliers in an industry that didn’t really exist when we began.

In 2005, we filed paperwork to officially establish ourselves as an LLC and have been industry leaders ever since.

It is estimated that, since our inception, we have saved and put to reuse over 2 million board foot of lumber that was destined for landfills.

Meet the Business Owner

Yoshiko S.

Business Owner

Yoshiko met Douglas Stoutenburg after he moved to Japan in ’94 to work for a trading company… Soon after arrival, his employer asked him to help them design stores that had an American feel…

They set out on a mission to find materials to help the company realize it’s vision. but not with much luck… The product they were after… high-quality with a naturally aged look was not available in lumber yards.

By chance, they came upon an ad for a saw mill in Northern California that was being taken down. Thinking there may be some interesting «dead stock» they made a trip up only to find that the material he needed was being used as the building itself.

The customers liked the material and bought it, saving it from the landfill and finding the exact product they needed… the rest, as they say, is history.

They married and moved back to the US to work full-time on the pursuit of reclaimed lumber for the Japanese market until 2005 when they began selling domestically.
