This business is very fishy. I was quoted one price 350 for a dental cleaning all inclusive of examination, cleaning, and blood panels before I mentioned the Unilocal offer for 20 percent off. I was put on hold. Another representative picked up and I asked again how much it would be after the Unilocal offer and I was put on hold. The first individual picked up again and quoted me 500 now all inclusive and could not properly explain why the price had jumped… definitely not going here.

I really hate going into this clinic for anything.
I never really feel like the doctor or technicians are listening to what you tell them. I generally have to state the reason for the visit several times before they «find» the reason. I put «find» in quotes because, although during the visit I’ve told them several times why I’ve brought my animal in, the grandfatherly doctor (who is full of sage advice that generally comes out in long, rambling monologues) always acts like he discovered the problem with the animal.
He’ll also make you wait or come back for results that are meaningless. I was told on one visit, «We won’t be able to treat whatever is wrong with your cat… but we should do a series of tests to see what he has…» Wtf? You __can’t__ treat it regardless of what it is and you want me to pay you to have your curiosity sated? What am I your curiosity whore?
Today’s visit, we’re made to wait while Dr. Dentures shuffles off to the back to put a sample under the microscope to determine whether my dog’s ears have a /​bacterial/​infection or a /​yeast/​infection. When the doctor comes back, he says its yeast but prescribes a blanket treatment for both which means that neither taking the sample, nor his Doggy CSI under the microscope actually changed anything. The medicine he ended up giving us is a general antibiotic which you would give any animal for an infection of the ears.
Is this doctor out to rip you off? I don’t know.
Honestly, it’s hard to tell if he even knows what he’s doing most the time.
Do yourself a favor, doc, sell the business and retire. You’re not hurting anyone but yourself.

HC&DG was a blessing for me with my new adopted shelter cat. When I adopted from the East Valley animal shelter in Van Nuys, I was given a certificate to get a free vet evaluation within 1 week of the adoption date. I was lucky that this place accepts those certificates!
Dr. Girges and the team are gentle, informative, and welcoming! I was able to get and change an appointment easily, and they always quoted me the price prior to doing any service, which I appreciate. They also taught me how to clip my cats claws and answered my many questions. Overall, this is a great place and I’m happy to have found them!

Excellent animal care service and very affordable! My cat had an ingrown claw, called ahead and asked to schedule an appointment, they told me to just come in as it would take only a few minutes.
When I got in, someone was there to open the door for me. The cat was seen right away. The vet trimmed the affected claw, checked the wound for infection, and offered to trim the other claws while he was at it. The whole thing took less than 15 mins and cost me $ 11.50!

Very friendly place. Seems like they know their stuff and it’s quite affordable as well. Highly recommend this place for a puppy checkup or vaccines.

Finally a vet I trust with my bulldogs and my wallet. This office is located around the corner and I was hesitant to go for 20 years all because it isn’t a fancy VCA or similar vet. Good lesson learned for me in not judging a book by it’s cover. My male bulldog was bleeding but didn’t seem in pain, I thought my female bull bit him. I called my fancy vet and asked how much would it cost if it was a bite, of course they said just the office visit would be 190.00 plus tests meds etc etc. I called Dr. Girgis and they said 65.00 for the visit and they needed to see him to determine if indeed it was a bite. Bottom line, it was a hot spot. I got a complete check up, (4) medications and nails clipped for $ 170 and they could not have been nicer or more attentive. Today I discovered my dogs had fleas and needed this expensive pills. I called over they had a 6 month supply for $ 95 no visit needed, I went and picked up the pills 20 minutes later all ready for me. VCA would have made me bring my dogs in for blood tests and office visits and then would have made me wait two hours for the pills, it would have been well over $ 300. I have never gotten out of their office for under $ 300 for any of my dogs.
I am VERY HAPPY with Dr. Girgis and his staff I completely trust them. They remembered me and my dog and I was not ripped off. I wish I went to them for the last 20 years, but now I am there where I am treated like a customer and not an ATM.

I was in a panic this morning when I noticed that my Himalayan had two ingrown claw nails on her feet. I called a few places and came across them — and am glad I did! They were able to take her in today, were extremely polite and were very quick! Price was extremely reasonable and I’m so relieved that my cat is ok. I will be taking her back every few months to make sure they are constantly trimmed.
I would totally recommend this place in the future to someone needing similar services.

Whatever you do do not take your animals here. The receptionists are unhelpful and rude but more importantly he is an over priced terrible vet. I took my dog to the Dr because I found a lump on his ear and asked him to take a sample of it to make sure it was all fine. He just looked at it and didn’t take a sample as I had asked and said it was nothing. That diagnosis cost $ 180. A few months later I took my dog to the cancer clinic for a second opinion. They did the test and sure enough it was a mast cell tumor and he had to have a large part of his ear removed. Something that could have possibly been prevented had the Dr bothered to do what I asked. My neighbor had the exact same thing happen to him with the same Dr. Ended up having a large part of his dogs abdomen removed because he didn’t think it necessary to take a sample. When I confronted The Dr he said «what do you want me to say? I’m sorry. I didn’t think it was anything.» They are overpriced and truly don’t seem to care. Do not take your animals here. If I could give 0 out of 5 stars I would.

I can’t honestly fathom why there are positive reviews here. I used to take my dog here because I literally lived around the corner. So I put up with the rude staff, dingy rooms and terrifying, constant barking. When I moved, I came back and realized that this place just wasn’t worth it — and had never been worth it, even with the proximity.
The staff is rude, uneducated, slow and uncaring. I had numerous front desk people do anything but work. Filing their nails, chit chatting with each other about weekend plans, but not knowing anything about when the vet would actually be in or be able to answer questions about flea medications, or — to the detriment of my dog, how to properly administer something as simple as taking a temperature.
The most recent visit was the last straw. I had called the day before to schedule a regular checkup to renew flea and heart worm as well as to look at his back leg which they had diagnosed as «typical for his breed» — he lifts his rear leg when he trots. I stressed that I needed to leave BY 9am so I took the earliest appointment available, 8am. The doctor showed up at 8:50am.
No apology, no «traffic was terrible» nothing. When I asked at 8:30 where the doctor was, I had the exam room door slammed on me after being told «he’s on his way.» It was my own fault for waiting there, but to be treated so poorly, so rudely, was beyond my comprehension. I wouldn’t go back even if I lived around the corner again. Which, with all of the apartments going up around there, I hope people take that to heart.
Don’t trust your animal to these people. The vet misdiagnosed my dog’s knee issue, which could have been much more easily treated a year ago. They ALWAYS keep you waiting — this last time was just the worst of it. They staff couldn’t seem to care less about the animals that come through the door, mine or others I’d watch them intake.
Even when I left after waiting for the doctor to arrive, all he did was say «What? We’re not doing the exam?» and his staff was equally ridiculous in saying «Call us to reschedule!» Again, no apology. Never going back.

This is the first vet I took my dog to in California and I was very happy with it! I’ve taken her to quite a few vets over the years in different cities we’ve lived in and this place is in my top two if not #1. The staff is extremely friendly and they all came up to pet Riley rather than just sitting behind the desk. The veterinarian was amazing. I’ve been to good ones before, but this vet talked to me for about 15+ minutes asking questions and really got to know Riley rather than a quick check up. My dog has always been very nervous at the vet but she seemed more comfortable here than anywhere we’ve been in the past. The prices are very reasonable and it was a great experience!

I don’t know why I have not written a review of Hollywood Cat & Dog yet. This is by far the best Vet I have ever been to! The staff is amazing and Dr. Girgis is wonderful with animals. He too care of my two cats for 17 years and they tolerated him because they were familar and knew him. I was always pleased with this office. They really cared about me and my lovely felines!!!
If you need a Vet, they don’t get better than Hollywood Cat and Dog Hosp.

Went here for the first time today, and had a very good experience. Reasonable rates and they told us pretty frankly what our kitty needed without charging an arm and a leg. The staff and the vet were friendly, and I would recommend coming here.

I took my 12 year old dog Arley there to get his tooth pulled (it was pretty foul and was causing his sinus problems). They were gentle, didn’t make us wait, didn’t overcharge us or try to «guilt» us into anything unnecessary. Including blood work, anesthesia, the extraction, and meds, it cost just shy of $ 500. I wanted to do the teeth cleaning ($ 200), but couldn’t afford it at the time. When I picked up Arley, he seemed happy and relieved (no more tooth pain!!). When I got home and inspected his teeth more closely, I realized that they had cleaned his teeth!!! Perhaps not a super deep cleaning, but definite polish and tartar/​plaque removal. That’s love. Dr. Girgis is very thoughtful and really listens to your concerns. The staff is friendly and very kind. Highly recommend!

I have been going to this vet maybe 5, 6 years. Dr. Girgis is absuletly wonderful, he is very caring, very gentle with animals and loving. He is not pushy like some other vets, he doesn’t do unnecessary tests to charge you more.
Also other employees Denny and Michelle, they are wonderful, very helpful, friendly, caring.
I highly recomend this place to everyone.

I’ve been taking my dog Mack there for over a year and I love this place! Dr. Girgis is wonderful and so are the vet techs! I took my dog in for stomach pains, and the doctor took x-​rays discovering it was a mass pushing on his colon. I was so scared, but the doctors assured me that it could be nothing, but suggested a wonderful sonogram specialist. After all the work was done, they finally discovered it was an ulcer, now my little guy is the happiest and healthiest EVER. They are very friendly there, and it feels like family. I highly recommend this place to anyone. 5 STARS!

I have been taking my two little dogs to Dr. Girgis for many years now and his staff is always polite and caring. Dr. Girgis does really well at keeping the dogs calm even though they are very scared. He is also very well informed and is able to answer all of my questions!

I took my new kitten, Melvin, in for his first vet visit today. This place was recommended to me by a friend so I called to book an appointment and they were able to see me the same day (today)
We waited for a bit but it was no biggie, the man behind the desk was friendly and conversational, one of the vet techs was googoo for Melvin and she took him for a bit to shower him with attention which I thought was great. Very personable and nice people.
Dr Girgis was really nice, he was personable as well, he asked if I had ever owned a cat before, I told him that I don’t really know much and so he gave me a quick rundown of health concerns and shots/​exams that are common for kittens and cats which I found very helpful. As he was doing everything that he did he was explaining it to us (boyfriend Johnny A was with me) which was reassuring.
The vet tech came back in, gave Melvin his shot, first round of deworming meds which she had me watch her do and explained to me what to and not to do while giving the other doses at home. I was very pleased with her and Dr. Girgis.
The cost seemed reasonable, I figured that they’d be ridiculously high based on location, but they were moderate, actually less than my vet back in Texas (who btw is impersonable but has a much nicer office) I did get flea medication given to me which I hadn’t asked for but really duh I need it and the guy also said that he’d gladly remove it if I didn’t want it or couldn’t afford it.
The office itself is outdated looking and a bit rundown as well as small but that just means that they aren’t hiking up the cost that patrons pay so that they can pay for interior design!
Some of the reviews on here seem harsh and backed by fact so I can’t argue or defend the vet for them but my experience was great and hopefully i won’t have to write an update review in the future to change this opinion.
I plan on making this my primary vet while living in LA.

I tried taking my dogs here on several occasions. Usually it was just for a routine checkup, so nothing major. Didn’t really like the vet, but the vet tech was pretty good.
Bad experiences:
1. I have pet insurance. They submitted my claim with the wrong address/​information on the form. After several months, and having to have THEM clear it up with VPI, because my own insurance didn’t believe me (they’d sent a check to another person at another address with a similar name) I finally got reimbursed. No apologies. No offers for all of the time, hassle and headache caused by them, and several months without reimbursement.
It gets worse…
2. I brought one of my dogs in (a 7 pound pomeranian) and continued bringing her in until after 2 times going under anesthesia and about $ 1500 in bills, I fixed her problem myself. She had dirt stuck up her nose which was causing an abscess. I sucked it out following some instructions from a vet online (tmi? I love my dogs!). Never had an issue again. Poor little girl shouldn’t have had to go under TWICE in such a short amount of time. Dr. Grigis’ answer each time was another kind of anti-​biotic, and I had a really hard time getting a hold of him by phone in between visits.
3. My friend took the same dog in on my behalf while I was at work one day, cuz we were worried about her abscess returning yet again (after 6 months and two times being put under etc). I found out about 4 months later when I went in to pick up some deworming medication that she had received an anti-​biotic shot while she was there, and I owed them $ 50 for it. **I NEVER approved that shot, and my friend had called me from there with the dog, so they could/​should have asked me.**
The girl at the front desk told me not to worry and that I could pay the next time, when I told her I had no idea they’d even given her the shot and I wanted to talk to the doctor about it. 3 weeks later, I get a call from a collections agency demanding the $ 50. I told him that there was no way it had gone to collections and explained the situation… he looked at the file and said, you’re right, the invoice is dated not even a month ago. What the??? Seriously, after all the money I’d spent there mostly for nothing, all their mistakes, AND having given my pet a medication without my permission they had the nerve to send me to collections?
Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. This vet is the worst vet I’ve ever dealt with, and they are incredibly disorganized.

We have been taking our cats here for years, and I love this place. They are empathetic and professional, really have our pets interests at heart. I highly recommend taking your pets here. Dr. Girgis is just wonderful!

I tried this place out when I moved to WeHo — it’s just a block away from my apartment. It was a Saturday afternoon and I didn’t have an appointment. They were able to get me an appointment, and for around $ 80 I got my dog an exam ($ 42, mandatory for new patients), a nail trim ($ 12), and her yearly rounds of shots. I was in and out in less than 2 hours.
The waiting room was filled with really nice people and plenty of reading material. Definitely taking the dog back here when she needs something.
