History

Established in 1977.

Chevra Kadisha Mortuary has been serving the Los Angeles area for over 36 years. We’ve then expanded to cover the entire Southern California area. We can also make arrangements for funeral services throughout California, and can ship out to other states.

We are a Jewish mortuary, and we do not offer embalming or cremation services. As such, all of our funerals are green funerals. (No metal caskets, embalming or cremation).

I am so glad my brother and I made rearrangements for both of our parents with Chevra Kadisha. We had one of the directors, Aaron preform my father’s service. He did a wonderful job, adding explanations to the customs and made the service feel special. We asked for him to return just 2 weeks later when my mother passed away.
One comment I do have is my mother passed away just after midnight and another mortuary company came to transport her. I was very uncomfortable with this at first and would not have felt that way if Chevra Kadisha had called to let me know this would happen.

By chance, my brother and I found Chevra Kadisha online when researching Jewish mortuaries for our father’s burial services. We were challenged with managing this process from afar and feeling very overwhelmed by the logistics. We hadn’t lived in Los Angeles for years and had never planned a funeral before, let alone one for a parent. Working with Rachel Manela was such a blessing. She was warm, supportive and sympathetic and we knew immediately that we were in good hands. Rachel’s practical approach, sage advice and invaluable insights helped us make informed decisions quickly and ultimately, we were able coordinate a service our father would have been very pleased with. I had to come here for a funeral service about a month ago. This place has a cheap-​ish feel for it. As if they just don’t have much respect for you and your loss. The entrance door leads outside to Santa Monica Blvd, and if someone walks in a few minutes late, you can hear traffic zooming by. On top of that, the walls are so thin, you can still hear the outdoor noise! It just didn’t feel as good as the services at Forest Lawn. If you can, skip this place and show the deceased some more respect.
