Spoke N Wheel Bicycle

Purchased a bicycle for my son and got great service from everyone at the shop… As a matter of fact, we had a little issue with the training wheels and they replaced them with much better ones at no extra charge. I highly recommend!

Went with my kids to buy a bike rack, they could have sold me the one they have I’m ready to pay since I don’t know anything about bike racks but instead they educated me and told me what they have wont work for my car and referred me to another business that can help me. I’m a raving fan!

My go to cycle shop in the valley, super cool family vibe in the shop, sweet deals and knowledgeable staff keep me coming back!

Great neighborhood bike shop with fast n friendly service. My husband took his bicycle here to have the chain replaced which broke after not being ridden for so long. The team was able to replace the chain and complete a mini tune up for a reasonable price in only 10 min! That’s what I call fast and friendly service. We’ll definitely be coming here from now on for all our bicycling needs.

I love all the guys here everybody here hands-​down is a great bike mechanic and a great person to be working at a bike shop. I’ve gone here twice in the past week, I usually go up north to a bike shop regularly to maintenance my bike but now that I’m moving to LA it was imperative for me to find a shop that I like and these guys here are top notch. Bring them some beer if you show up and want something on your bike worked on and always tip your bike mechanic because they’re worth it!

Awesome service. All the guys were knowledgeable and answered every question I had when I bought my new bike. They set up my suspension for me and told me about the bike from tire to tire. Would def make the trip from South Orange County again if I ever need anything else.

We have bought bikes and brought them in for tune-​ups for the last 4 or 5 years, and we’ve never been disappointed. Jody and the rest of the staff are service-​oriented and very good about answering questions.

OK just found this local GEM! Read some reviews and heard from locals that the shop was shady now and that the prices were expensive. All I can say is from the very first time I came in I got RESPECT. Great customer service with a lot of care and NO upselling!!! In fact they were very helpful and guided me in the right direction. I got an air pump which was really nice for both valves and it was cheaper than Wal-​Mart! Came back and got serviced BEFORE they opened during normal business hours. Got me back commuting again BEFORE their normal opening time! As far as discontinuing lifetime tuneups. As I understand it the owners changed, so obviously so are the guarantees and future business policies and protocols. Come on now expecting lifetime service from a small store that CHANGED owners is not really being reasonable. I understand that the lifetime service was the selling point. However that needs to be taken up with the OLD owners.

Very helpful staff. I’ve had them taking care of my bikes for 20 years. I bought my son’s bike there and they have kept his mountain bike and my ancient road bike roadworthy for many years. Jody is great.

I purchased the best bike in the market from Spoke n Wheel and after only 7 – 8 months I was having issues with breaks so I came back to spoke n Wheel where the owner himself told me that the warranty does not cover what I needed to have fixed. He charged me $ 220 (other places later quoted me $ 40!) to replace my breaks and after 1 week I had no choice but to come back. My bike was making crazy sounds and the back wheel began shaking so badly that it had become dangerous to ride the bike.
This is when the owner told me that the bike was not working because I do not know how to ride my bike, that is a ridiculous excuse.
He told me he refused to fix my bike again and would do nothing about the faulty break that he installed.
I have never experienced such terrible service in my entire life and am completely in shock in the lack of care they showed to me.
If you care at all about your bike and plan to invest in your bike please do yourself a favor and do not visit Spoke n Wheel you will regret it.

There are ways to do business that build a customer base and other ways that kill an existing customer base. It seems pretty clear that the new owners of Spoke n Wheel do not appreciate, let alone want to keep their existing customers. For a respected business that has been around as long as Spoke n Wheel, this is quite sad and frankly hard to fathom.
With the recent change in ownership, free tune ups, promised to those customers who purchased their bikes at Spoke n Wheel, are no longer honored. Again, there are ways to handle things and if the new owners don’t feel it is viable to continue free tune ups, I can understand that. But THESE ARE YOUR CUSTOMERS. YOU DON’T EXIST WITHOUT THEM. Instead of just coldly denying people what they were promised, perhaps give them one last free tune up as a friendly nod to them as a paying customer or even maybe a 50% off tune up, to show appreciation for their past business and investment in their future business?
These are people who actually BUY bikes and WANT to come back to your store. Treating them like this assures they will do neither again.

The best bike shop! Always able to fix my bike at anytime! All the guys there are the best!

Great service! They tuned-​up my kids bikes and it’s like they are new bikes! Friendly, fast service even in the small space they’re working out of while the shop is rebuilt.

Jody and Spoke N Wheel have a 2.5 star rating on Unilocal and they don’t deserve it. I give them a solid four and that is not based on one encounter but rather hundreds over 20 years with Spoke N Wheel and all of the other shops in the West Valley (see below). If you look closely, several of the one star reviews were because when Jody bought the store, he eliminated the free tuneups. I also have a bike that was promised free tuneups that I have to pay for now. But I have also bought bikes at at least five other stores that have never offered free tune-​ups. Nobody offers free tuneups for life and Spoke N Wheel does have new ownership and they are entitled to make a change. Get over it. Also many of the reviews are dated before Jody took over the shop and add to the poor rating.
I’ve been riding a bicycle in the Valley for more than 50 years and bicycle commuting, mountain biking and triathlon racing for the last 15 – 20 years. I run most of my errands including grocery shopping on a bike. I put more miles and spend more money on bicycle service and repairs than I spend on car. I have bought bikes or had been serviced at every shop in the West Valley. I’ve also taken bikes to Helen’s in Santa Monica, John’s in Burbank and bought bicycle gear from the Internet. Over those years I have had over 300 encounters including sales, repairs, accessories bike apparel, seats, gloves, saddlebags, shoes, and just browsing. With riding at least twice a day in traffic for 20 years means that things are going to happen. I’ve run into cars and cars have run into me, had bikes stolen (at least five), accessories stolen or damaged, flat tires and just plain wear and tear.
I’ve had great service in all of them, I’ve gotten in arguments with all of them and I’ve walked out angry enough not to come back including two of the three who are listed as «Best of Unilocal» at the bottom (of those three I’ve never been toTopanga Cycles). Inevitably I go to another store for a while until they screw up something or are rude and then I go back to one of the stores that I was upset with a couple of years before, which is how I have experience with all of them. If you’re looking for a great store that will ALWAYS give you good service, I wish you good luck on your quest but I haven’t found it. The bottom line is that Jody just took over the store and he is concerned about his customers. And I base that not only one or two encounters but on at least a 10 year relationship and multiple encounters. He also tries to do good things for the community such as building bikes for free for the Camp Pendleton Marine charities. He deserves better than a 2 ½ star rating.

Every time I go into this shop, I get attitude. Every single time. It’s like I am ruining their day by trying to give them business. Last time I went in, I said to myself, «I would rather drive 20 miles out of my way than set foot in this place again.» I will never shop at this bike store again.

They recently had a fire and are closed for the foreseeable future. Too bad, I’m looking to buy a new bike and they’ve always done me right.

I’ve been going to Spoke N Wheel for well over 30 years, since i was a kid and bikes were the most important thing in my world. in the past few years I’ve bought 3 bikes for myself and family. Although they are not the cheapest outlet, the close proximity and guarantee of «free lifetime tune-​ups» made the sales sensible and sealed the deal.
Today i brought 2 of the 3 down there for tune-​ups and was told they «are under new ownership» and «no longer continuing the lifetime tune-​ups.» Really? I still see «Spoke N’ Wheel» on the sign out front and see some of the same faces inside. This apparent internal change of management /​ownership while retaining the same façade means nothing to me — a decades long customer who was promised a bill of goods under false pretenses in order to make the sale. That’s a rotten pill to swallow after supporting a neighborhood small business for so many years.
In the final analysis, myself and over 1000 other customers were promised services that were never meant to be delivered upon. We were conned. I will never step foot in Spoke N Wheel again. I can understand discontinuing the lifetime tune-​ups if it is not
profitable for the shop. What i can’t understand, is pulling the rug out from beneath the feet of everyone who paid good money to have that promised service.
Spoke N Wheel should’ve sucked it up and honored their promised service to those who paid for it with their purchases. Instead, in an effort to weasel out of their obligation and further fill their pockets, Spoke N Wheel managed to completely alienate their core neighborhood clientele. That’s bad business, especially for a small business, because all you have is your word and reputation — both of which have been irreversibly soiled. What were they thinking?
No worries, fellow neighbors — there’s a new bike shop in town where the employees are helpful and the man who does the tune-​ups is extremely skilled, kind and goes way beyond the call of duty. Can’t remember their name offhand, however, they’re located on the southeast corner of Owensmouth and Victory Blvd, right across from Panini Café. Check them out. All my bike business will be going there.

Under the previous owner I would have given this shop five stars. But now with the new owners the place has gone downhill. The free tune-​ups for life was a huge reason I purchased my two bikes from here. When I stopped in today to have my bikes tuned up, they told me they have not been offering this service since January and would now cost me $ 80 for the two bikes. I dropped my bikes off in November and didn’t hear a word about the discontinuation of the tune up service until today. Seven months later! No email, no letter, no phone call, no apology, no nothing. When you offer a service as a selling point, it is incredibly rude and unprofessional to discontinue it after the customer has made their purchase.
I had been planning on buying 2 new road bikes from here shortly, but now they’ve lost my business. So long Spoke N Wheel. So much for trying to help local small businesses.
EDIT: So after reading through some of the newer reviews defending Jody for not honoring the previous owners lifetime service, I thought I should make it known that Jody was an employee for the previous owners for quite a long time before he took over. HE was actually the one who sold me my bikes. And HE used the lifetime service heavily as a selling point to get me to buy them only to pull the deal out from under me not long after the purchase. There is a valid reason his old customers are pissed. Don’t make the mistake of dismissing Jody as the new guy. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Stopped by SnW today on my way to Pasadena (was out of the way from my regular bike shop) because I needed a chain lock for my bike. I’m a big fan of supporting local businesses.
Although the gentleman working there was with a customer, he gave me a warm greeting. I asked him where the locks were and he pointed me in the right direction. There was a very large selection of locks and cables and I was unsure of what to get. During a break in the action with the other customer, the proprietor came over to check on me. I told him what I was looking for was a chain lock and a cable. He suggested a different way to do it that required only one of the two locks I was holding.
I gave him a sly smile and told him he just lost part of a larger sale. He said, «I’m all about doing what’s right for the customer». What a pleasant surprise.
It’s a clean shop, well organized for being a small space. He mentioned the place was under new ownership and they’re philosophy is about taking care of the customer. While I’m fiercely loyal to my other shop, I will definitely continue to visit SnW when I’m on this end of the Valley and have bicycle needs…
