Rita’s Italian Ice

Yum! They serve frozen custard– similar to ice cream but with egg yolks beaten in. Fluffy and decadent! Plus the lemon ice is refreshing and the staff is friendly.

Great location along the shore of West Haven, perfect for grabbing some ice or custard and then enjoying the view. There is a small parking lot and some benches across the street that put you right on the beach.
My favorite flavor is the strawberry Sour Patch Kids but they have some other good ones in rotation as well. I like the ice & custard combo the most but I think it’s more expensive than either item individually so I’ll admit that annoys me (a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ mix should not exceed the value of either item individually in my opinion). They have an app where you punch a virtual card for each item you buy and after 10 you get a free one so that’s a nice bonus.
It’s a seasonal business (closed in winter) but I believe they re-​opened recently.

Was in Town with a Friend of mine im not from the Area im in Norwalk but was in the West Haven area my Friend told me about this place and me and her Decided to stop into Rita’s and it was Delicious great place to stop and Get Ice Cream or even a Smoothie I had this Cherry Apple Smoothie it was Yummy If your looking for a Tasty Smoothie or Frozen Dessert and your in the Area Rita’s may be your Place

All of the Ritas locations are amazing but this one is my favorite. Its right next to the ocean and theres nothing like a mango flavored custard on the beach. Ritas is always throwing new flavors into the mix. Give them a try!

You will find this Rita’s located across from the beach in the West Shore area of West Haven. Its a perfect summer business. My kids are hooked as well as myself. Kevin is a great owner and does a lot of work for to support local schools and businesses. Im a better business owner after having met Kevin. Bring the kids down, you will not be disappointed.

Love RItas! I was so excited when I learned that place opened a few Yeats back, sadly this past weeekend was my first chance to get there. But the time was a perfect reminder in all that is Ritas.
This location is directly opposite a beach so this provides a great place to sit while enjoying some water ice or custard. I did not have time to hang around so I just got my gelati to go.
What’s a gelati? A cup (like soda cup) that is filled with layers of ice and custard. The people in front of me had no idea what the ice was like (think super fine dense slushy), custard (better than soft serve ice cream, and what the combinations of these were. The girl working there politely explained the whole process since they were mistakenly calling just the custard a gelati and what not. She was so kind dealing with them. It was even better that they let me go ahead to see what I would order.
Rita’s is consistently making their ices and custards so I feel good knowing that my ice and custard are both pretty fresh and have been made on site. I had the piña colada ice and the vanilla custard in my gelati. The piña colada was exactly that, it tasted just like a piña colada. Getting that alone would have been refreshing enough but the custard make it even better.
The store was really clean and organized. While the store is small there is some interior and exterior seating, along with the beach across the street. There is a parking lot right out front and some parking across the street.

OK, I’m going to get over my cheapskate attitude and update my review to four stars. While yes, it can be a bit pricey, it’s no more expensive than most other ice cream shops these days, so I’m going to shut up about the price! The ices and frozen custards are really good. I like the fact they introduce new flavors monthly. The place is very clean and the employees are very friendly and efficient, even when it’s busy. Plus, the location (nice ocean view) is great.

There’s no better after-​dinner treat than a flavor filled Italian Ice. I can vouch for the Lemonade, Watermelon, Strawberry and Birthday Cake flavors. My wife likes the Banana Split, Wild Cherry & Coconut varieties. There’s an ample parking lot by Rita’s, but as Christine referred to, the beach is across the street. It’s nice to sit in your car, turn on some tunes and develop an excruciating ice cream headache… but all with an ocean view!
When you want a little something different than your typical dessert, this is a great place to go.
