Came All the way from Virginia with my friend Elna to try their Oysters!!! Great food, good service, and good prices, the soup was delicious! Our trip was worth it!

The only thing I could say I really like about this restaurant is its location and history. As for the food quality it is somewhat lacking. If you like fried food then I guess this is your place, otherwise you are out of luck. I have tried the other dishes(non-fried) and those are not their specialty. Fried food foodies this is you place. Health food foodies stay away.

The main reason I’m leaving a review is I read a bunch of others and wondered what restaurant they’re talking about. My family has met here a number of years. Some live in Rhode Island, others in New Jersey, and it’s a good midway point. In recent years we’ve met at Jimmies every New Years Day. We could go to any number of places but we come here. Why? The food is good, the view is great, and there’s a waterfront to walk on when you’re done. Granted, the dining room and bathrooms could use updating, but it’s comfortable enough. I almost always get the baked scrod. Others get fried fish, which I sample. Some like the lobster salad. I’ve not had a bad meal here; the worst I can say is the dessert and coffee are ho hum. Two of our party are CIA grads and have been in the food biz for decades. If there were a problem I’d have heard about it. I also saw carping about the autogratuity. The service is fine. If you don’t normally tip 15%(I forget at what level the gratuity goes to 18%) then you’ll probably want to eat elsewhere. If you tip more than 15%, calculate what you’d tip and subtract the autogratuity. BTW, they don’t take AMEX.

Not really a good place. Service and food as you would expect from a place right on the beach. If you like slow take or leave it device, with greasy and deep fried bland food. Then this is the place for you. Its not for me.

Look, there is simply no reason to go to Jimmies anymore. Except nostalgia, but then you’d be putting a black mark on your fond memories from the 60s and 70s. Hold those memories sacred and don’t mess with them. Speak with your wallets and maybe ownership will shape up or ship out.

If I could give zero stars I would. I have been coming to Jimmies of Savin Rock for about 25 years now, and I’m sad to say this will be the last. While the food is still decent, this review is primarily for the service. Not for our server who was lovely… But for the manager. She has a caustic temper with a loud mouth and if I owned this restaurant I would fire her. She is driving away the business of longtime customers and she doesn’t even care. My sister and I were meeting at the restaurant for a late lunch and when I arrived at 2:00pm on a Tuesday — I walked in to find her yelling at my sister. Yelling so loudly and then literally putting my sister in time out — just because my sister asked to be seated while she was waiting for me to arrive. The restaurant was empty and still she wouldn’t seat her. After putting my sister in time out(I kid you not), she continued to seat the other people who arrived after us, even though I was already there standing with my sister, and my sister had been there for 20 minutes prior to the arrival of the other patrons. Seriously??? You’re the manager and you put a grown woman in time out? The audacity! Clearly she doesn’t know the meaning of «customer» service. Nor has she ever heard the term«the customer is always right». And because of the treatment we received today we will never, ever spend our hard-earned dollars here again. And we will gladly share our findings with our thousands of Unilocal,TripAdvisor, Facebook, and Instagram friends… and anybody else who will listen to us.

I’m giving this a higher rating due to nostalgia. My family always makes a point of going here(and have for decades, apparently) when we’re all together in Connecticut. The food is pretty decent — it’s not the freshest or the tastiest, but the portion sizes are huge and it’s been a good meal. We’ve never had an issue with service. In fact, every server we’ve had has been nothing but polite and super attentive. The décor is pretty dated, but the view is great so who cares. Again, I get very nostalgic for this place, but there are many other places that are fresher and little more updated.

Great clam strips and apps, Great taste, but getting seated was such a hassle. I Was told to wait an hour and a half for outside seats. We came back a hour and 10 mins later, and they told us they were calling my name a long time ago… –_– so my girlfriend and I settled for inside. Where the real wait begins… And btw careful ordering liquor here, 2 skimpy martinis came up to 20 bucks. Good Food, Annoying place to dine in, order out if you live by there.

The location is nice with a view of Long Island Sound, but it heads down from there. This is the first restaurant that I have been to that changes a gratuity for a party of four. Two hot dogs, greasy, soggy french fries, and coleslaw for $ 10.50? Potato skins with bright orange cheese-wiz for $ 6.50? Food was mediocre. Seafood entrees were largely un-priced on the menu, but judging from other prices, you had better have a full wallet. Our service was acceptable and if not for the enforced gratuity of 15%, I would have tipped my usual 20%. Jimmies must be relying on a bygone reputation. We will not be back.

Had a childhood friend that went there recently. Service was awful. Management was rude. I have been going there since i was a child. I am very disappointed in knowing that the service is nothing but terrible. They are slacking on customer service and the presentation on their food is not worth the pay. I will not go there for service like that.

You’re here for the location not the food. Service was great. We sat at the outdoor bar waiting for our table. Bartender was courteous. We sat at an indoor booth for dinner. The interior is in desperate need of an update. Waitress was lovely. Food was meh. Rubbery scallops. Bathroom was quite nasty.

Amazing service and food! Since moving out of the area over 20 years ago, it was nice to return to an old favorite with my family. My teenage daughters order the lobster bisque and they loved it. The bisque had huge chunks of lobster in it and was great. Then we had some stuffed clams which were also great. The raw oysters were a huge hit. While the wife and I love them, even our daughter enjoyed them. Both girls ordered root beer floats which they’re still talking about. We ordered the fried and broiled platters to split between all 4 of us. Everything was cooked perfect and tasted great. Thanks for making this trip so wonderful.

Service is terrible. Not sure what the food is like. I have been seated for about an hour and not had any food brought out. Waitresses are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Disorganized. No one knows what is going on. There is a big fat guy that sits at the front barking orders that I assume is the owner or manager but he really does nothing. Place sucks.

Before I was born, Jimmies was the place my mother and her sisters went to break their diets, so it had to have been good back in the day, right… Right? Anyway, I’ve only been there twice in my life. I don’t even know how I managed a second time because the first time was a disaster. Why was my side of rice floating in oil??? Someone, please explain this to me. Why was my steak dry??? I asked for well-done, not burnt hockey puck. The second time I went was a little better, but not by much. I was already in a bad mood about going because our original plan was to go to Captain’s Galley, but it was closed for good! D: The chicken parm was alright, but my parents didn’t really like their meals. Dad barely ate his steak and my mother, WHOLOVESSHRIMP, said it was way too greasy. They were both super disappointed because the place had really gone downhill. I wish I could say the waitress made our visit better, but there was nothing she could do for us. It looks like it’s stuck in the 70s. The décor is so outdated that it’s enough to put a bad taste in your mouth. Maybe with some remodeling and new management.

Should’ve listened to the reviews and gone someplace else to eat. I gave it two stars because of the view. Bad sign when you walk in and there’s no more than 12 people in the place. Waitress was not friendly and treated me as if I was a nuisance because of dining solo I guess. I ordered the fried seafood platter and it was just ok. I come to Connecticut every 3 weeks or so on business and have found some gems but unfortunately this one missed the mark for me.

To start, if you haven’t ventured down to Savin Rock and walked the miniature boardwalk you’re missing out. It really is a diamond in the rough just minutes from New Haven. We’ve dined here a couple of times and haven’t been disappointed. The fried food is generally flavorful. The scallops, clams, fish and shrimp all retain their flavor and you’re not left feeling like you didn’t know what you just ate because they all tasted battered and fried. It should also be mentioned they serve Sole for their fish and chips. Which is ok, since most places just through some Cod on a dish and call it a day. The Sole was far more subtle in its flavor and also doesn’t feel like you’re eating just some fried fish. We dined outdoors after about a 1 hour and 15 min wait on Sunday afternoon. The patio was nice, you have a nice view of Long Island and the sound and if you like people watching, it’s the place to be. The only downside however, was that it’s way off the beaten path of the restaurant. There was one server assigned to the half a dozen tables. This was only a problem, because it was impossible to get anyone’s attention. In addition to patio dining, they have an outdoor bar. It was empty when we were there, and I think they were suggesting people get take out and go to the outdoor bar. This would have been faster had we planned on having any drinks at all. The price is high, the meal for my wife, my 3 year old and myself is $ 70. With no liquor. That’s my only real gripe for the place, but you get what you pay for and the food tastes fresh.

Jimmie’s needs to tear up the carpet. The place smells damp and old. The fried food tastes as if the oil needs changing. The scallops were tough. The soup seems as if they had been warming the same pot for more than two days. The coleslaw is too warm and bland. The cloth the bus person was using reeked of mildew. Someone please call Robert Irvine in to rescue the place. I really hope they read these reviews because I used to enjoy their food.

Wow! Some changes. Keep in mind — tips are 15% and included with your check of 4 or more people. Hmmmm! I would give more so I don’t think it should be included. Anyway– lobster bisque had no lobster(bummer) and so pricey for not having a tasty morsel or two. Not sure why the prices are going sky high… Portions decreasing. Food does taste good. I just don’t think a return visit will be any time soon.

Some menu options are better than others here. The lobster bisque was tasty, but the lobster ravioli had a lot of filler fish in it. The bread rolls looked and tasted like wonder bread. The linguine alfredo was too oily and did not have much flavor at all. The service here was good and friendly. The décor is dated and the bathrooms need to be redone. I would not go again. The water views are great, but the food and everything else is very forgetable.
