If I can give it no stars, I would. Frozen fish sticks are better than the seafood here. The French fries were extra crispy, the only thing I enjoyed eating here.

It’s just not the same it used to be growing up. They had a good run, but this is for the best. R.I.P Chick.

Glad I had the chance to visit before it closed. Great food and a nice spot… I really hope there’s going to be a sequel! RIP Chick, you’ll truly be missed!

SOONTOBECLOSED — The Chick’s of yesteryear was done a long time ago. Only now did someone decide to stick a fork in it. It probably should have happened a long time ago because its recent state was a sorry state at that. RIP Chicks. They’ll probably build condos in this location. Because if there’s one thing that West Haven needs it is bland multiplex condos spoiling its beautiful shoreline.

$ 16 for flavorless clam strips(no fries or coleslaw). Blah at best. But then you add a clear dislike of customers evident throughout the establishment — from the handwritten«cash-only» and«bathrooms are for customers ONLY» signs, the refusal of the staff to smile, the insane pricing, and the general grump vibe you get as soon as you walk in. I hope there are better restraunts along the water. Not sure if there can be worse.

I’m not exactly sure how so many people are disappointed with this place. Assumptions can be made immediately on what kind of food you will be getting based on the looks of the place alone. It is essentially a beachside fast food diner. You can tell walking right in that it’s a subpar joint that will provide you with beach parking, outside seating, and fried munchies. Like I don’t think that this place hides the fact that it’s not serving 5 star food. With that being said, don’t have super unrealistically high expectations. Food is nothing to write home about and is overpriced. Milk shakes are syrupy and artificial tasting. Come here only if you want something quick and average, like a hot dog or hamburger. Stowe’s is the place to go to for seafood. Free beach parking is convenient and there is a beautiful view of the shore. Place is also clean and staff is friendly.

If there was anything less than 1 star I would select it. Sad to experience the very sad, disgusting Chicks. I guess I am dating myself but the icon is gone.

Change your time for the correct closing, you have it as 9pm and they locked the doors when I drove up at 8:45.

We went here because we could not park at another restaurant. We should have known an empty parking lot tells you something. Fried clams nothing special, coleslaw store bought, and french fries were good. Not a very enthusiastic crew.

This place was a childhood favorite of mine. Now it is not same. I just paid $ 7 for a cheeseburger. $ 38.98 for A cheeseburger, hamburger, order of fries, two bottled waters, and two orders of chicken tenders. Yes the portions were a little bit bigger but the quality of the food was yet to be desired. I am the type of chic that can tolerate gas station quality food and am definitely not picky, but if I’m going to spend seven dollars on a piece of a dead cow, I expect it to come with a ten-minute massage. Milkshakes cost $ 4.98. This place is way overpriced and without justification. Oh and if you enjoy an environment where you go from 0 to irritably hot and are able to make ball soup in a matter of seconds, then this is the place for you! The patio area has zero shade and the inside has no ac, nor did I notice any windows open. I actually feel badly for the servers because they have to work next to an oven in the middle of the summer time heat. There was one dinky-little rotating fan behind the counter but that wouldn’t be enough to keep a person from dying from hyperthermia in this place. I am not criticizing the customer service because that was pretty good but much more could be done to ensure the comfort of customers and workers. This place needs to have air conditioning. I do like the fact that as I am dying of heat exhaustion, I see a beautiful view of the ocean.

Don’t do it. Just. Don’t. Do it. If you can find food anywhere else, then run for the hills. The servers were nice. That’s where the positives end. This place is grotesquely overpriced, and the quality of food is disgusting. Pretty much everything is fried, which wouldn’t be a problem if the batter wasn’t terribly tasteless. I spent upwards of $ 20 on a fried shrimp platter with mediocre cole slaw and something they claim to be «onion rings.» Have you ever had shoestring onion rings? Me neither. They were horrible. The were offensive. They were an insult to the legacy of onion rings. My friends dragged me to this place. Immediately my BS meter started ringing the moment I walked into this place. If you are somehow forced to eat here, then get a hot dog, burger, or sandwich. I haven’t had them(and I imagine they’re also terrible) but at least you will spend less than $ 10. That should be less of an affront to your existence.

My first experience shouldn’t have been on Mothers Day, but the line was pretty long, waited for an hour to finally get my food. When my two brothers and I finally received it, it was cold and the onion ringswere not what I expected. Also, they are pretty pricey. All in all the food was pretty good.

As a kid, this was one of the summertime Spots. We always got a hotdog and a coke, while the grown ups got lobster rolls. On occasion my mom would give me a bite of her roll. As I got older and came back home, I would swing by(usually winter months). Today spring was in the air and the ‘70s on my mind. Lefty and I swing into town for a couple of days so I gotta get a lobster roll. I order it up with excitement, I don’t care what the other Unilocalers think, this is my childhood spot. An eight inch toasted bun, drenched in butter like Axe Bodywash on a 15 year old playboy. Wait, WTF! is the surimi mixed with my crustacean? $ 15 wasted! BOOOOO! Ctrl Alt Delete! The worst thing they coulda done! I have a lot of Profanity wanting to pour into this review, but I am Elite this year so ima be classy. I choose not to ever return to this place even though the hotdog was pretty tasty. I didn’t doubt my brethren, I just expected more from this place.

What happened to this place? In its glory, it was the go to drive in on the shore. Solid food, higher than acceptable prices but expected because of location and really just a yearly Summer tradition. That was nearly 3 decades ago. It has failed to with stand the faltering city surroundings around it — West Haven has fallen from whatever grace it had, and Chicks went with it. Even from the outer appearance I wouldn’t let someone by me lunch here, it’s filthy, and the amount of food poisoning stories I’ve heard over the past 10 years is enough to deter me. Head a town or two up, you’ll find much better.

Expensive!!! The lady at the register couldn’t even speak English?! It took her a good ten minutes to understand what we wanted. Hello you’re in America speak English. It’s feels like I’m back in Fremont surround by Asian people who can’t speak English.(I’m Asian myself and chooses English as my primary language) and every other people who choose to work in America should do the same. Our two meal came out to 60 dollars. The portions was hella small and greasy. Never ever coming here again, I have Stowes as my number one to go for seafood.

Ripoff alert! Just paid $ 21.50 for a whole clam blue plate, and they gave me only 6 clams. I stopped going here many years ago because it had a reputation of being way overpriced, and this just substantiated that. Should have been charged no more than $ 14 tops. Considering the place has some nearby neighborhoods where people struggle to make ends meet, it’s outrageous that they charge what they do.

Believe what your are reading. This is Expensive. For $ 17, you get the privilege of eating a small portion of crappy clam strips on a paper plate fill with mostly french fries. I would rather go to a diner. At least for $ 15 I could eat on real plates with table service. Don’t be tempted by the«seafood shack on the water» vibe. Unless you have lots on money and don’t care. But if you didn’t care, would you be reading Unilocal
